  • The Lamy Z50 nib is a classic, but the gold Z55 is even better, and will fit any Lamy fountain pen (except the 2000, which already has a gold nib).

So, how much for basic pen, how much for gold nib?

Can you flex with z55 gold nib?

The nib is soft rather than flexible.

@@WriteHereShrewsbury I guess it is bouncy which aids in pleasant writing but does not flex for line variation? Unless the tines open up there is no chance of any variation. Nice video and I am considering getting a Lamy gold nib for my special edition LX Marron as the nib on that is a bit disappointing .. quite a bit of feedback, hardly smooth!

Hi Melody, if you’re after flex you won’t get from a Lamy (or maybe just the once, before the nib springs...) but you will get a little line variation with gentle pressure. Maybe save up for our new SCRIBO I’d flex is what you’re after!!

What size did you write with in this video? EF, F, or M?

I *liked* the lamy brand, but the gold nib Dialog 3 has finally ruined it for me.
This nib is super soft, but it doesn't have the spring that the vintage gold pens have.
It feels like you have a "flex" pen based on how soft it is, but it is super easy to break it.
Just a little pressure, and you can already open the tines, and I find it really too soft to work with.
My problem now, is that I think I broke it. It hard starts, skips, and dries out, but if you put a little bit more pressure, the ink just gushes out.
    Too inconsistent tbh.

Hi M-T. The Lamy nib isn't, and isn't intended to be, a flex nib and personally I don't find it particularly soft. I suspect you have sprung the nib using excessive pressure, hence the problems you are having now. A shame that it has spoiled the brand for you but I have to agree that you broke it.

@@johnhall3312 Right, I didn't mean for it to come out that I flexed it like a flex nib. I merely compared it to a flex pen because of how soft it was.
Also, I wouldn't say I sprung the nib, because it actually came like that, except it's now more frequent.
It came in too bouncy / springy, and it didn't write when you put 0 pressure in it, hence I instantly swapped it with my Safari steel nib.
Couple the problematic nib + the problem of the dialog 3 of drying out nibs as well.
      Instant let down.
