- Here's the story of how I was assaulted in Marrakech. Do not take this as a summary of the entire country - Morocco is a beautiful place worth visiting and this can happen to anyone anywhere. I'll be back in April!

When I was in Marrakech I was walking on one of the streets and some people stopped me and said I can't walk there because I'm not a muslim. Later I found out they were lying and probably just wanted to show me the way and get money. Imagine using ISLAM to scam tourists!
As Moroccan i really feel ashamed from those evil deeds , I apologize to you and i really understand how this experience was terrifying .
Even us as locals we get our money stolen too , Some of those neibours are very dangerous .
I Would like to advice everyone to walk only in very busy roads and popular ones

As a moroccan from Casablanca, I am so sorry for what you've went through, these scammers and thieves are destroying Marrakech. To anyone who is coming to Marrakech plz be careful, and don't get fooled by appearances or smiles, if someone insisted to give you or do something for you even if you refused, that's always a red flag. But ofc not everyone is a scammer, and Marrakech is still a beautiful historical city with beautiful surronding small Amazigh villages. Fortunately you're well and safe. I hope the police with the help of locals do something about these scammmers
Hi I'm from Morocco and I'm writing this to tell you how sorry I am sorry about what happened to you ❤️
Pourquoi tu es désolé? Tu es responsable de ce qu'il lui est arrivé? Arretez un peu de vous excuser pour tout et pour rien surtout si vous n'êtes pas responsable car c'est une grande marque de faiblesse et de soumission
@@boulognepsg9426I'm not gayyyyyyyy
Scammers in Morocco are some of the best in the world. Luckily they do not represent the majority of otherwise welcoming and friendly people in this beautiful country. If you are alone and uncertain you are extremely vulnerable. I've traveled there and will be taking my wife in May. I've always felt safe but I'm older, always with someone, and avoid dead-ends.
I'm glad you were safe, played it cool, and are willing to go back. I live near Atlanta and am statistically safer anywhere in Morocco than I am in the middle of my own city.
hi brother welcom to my country i m from TANGIER if come here and you want any help i will be here or anything to make you feel safe anyone come here i promise to help them and i dont want anything from anyone welcom to morocco*

This happened to us !! Two women and a man. I’m a Muslim and this is not how we treat people. It was disgusting. We will never return to Morocco. One of them even told me to zip up my bag so he gained my trust but he tried to viciously scam us and moved us onto other scammers ina scamming ring
I spent two and a half weeks travelling all over Morocco. It was probably the most traumatic experience of my life to say the least.
What places did you visit?
Where did you go??
@@DH-zk6hq Tangier, somewhere in the countryside 2½ hours drive south of Tangier, Chefchaouen, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakesh, and I did a tour stopping in places between Marrakesh and Merzouga.

Good to know you’re fine!
When solo traveling never ever walk off with someone you don't know. Never let your guard down because if you do you will be helpless. Always walk back to the street you know when alone. Hustlers all over looking for even the experienced traveler to let there guard down.
Hey mate I had the exact same experience today in Marrakesh. Hence me finding your video. Absolute scum bags bro, I actually caught their bluff and said “okay let’s fight” and he backed away just shouting. I exposed them on film though at least ;) glad you’re good. Shame Morocco has these scumbags
Damn really? You had more guts than I. I was just too scared to confront them as you did. I'm glad they didn't get any money from you - if you end up uploading that footage I'll definitely check if it was the same guys that assaulted me. Thanks for passing by, love your vids!
BRO YOU DID THE WRONG THING DON'T ESCALATE AND DON'T GIVE HIM YOUR STUFF JUST RUN ;THE GUY WAS A BEGINNER OR IT WAS A PUBLIC PLACE
I always advise people to do what you said. Just put your hands up and say let’s fight they will think your crazy and not scared it works 90% of the time
I’m from Morocco , this is a crime, and I apologize to you on behalf of all Moroccans. I am very sorry for what happened to you. I hope you accept our apology, and I want to give you advice on my simple travel experience. If the locals tell you about something, always be receptive, because they are the ones who know the area. More than you . And again, we ask your forgiveness 🌺🙏
Of course! In the end I had a really great time in Morocco. After this trip, I came back and I absolutely loved it. You have a beautiful country and Moroccans are always warm and welcoming. Thank you for your kind comment :)
@@manucamposlag thank you 😊🙏
There are people who pretend to be helpful who are actually hustlers, so that's not actually good advice in Marrakesh. Those are the worst hustlers I encountered. I did encounter people who were just trying to be helpful, but they were rare and in other parts of the country. I didn't fall for it/lost people. The worst was the first one I encountered when I first arrived to the country/in Marrakesh. who was a restaurant owner who kept following me to try to be "helpful" but he was clearly trying to get me to go to his restaurant. While others were bugging me at the same time. Thankfully after that, it wasn't too bad and I'm understanding of people trying to make a living by saying hello/saying to check out their shop. It's when they are persistent that it's an issue. Overall, it wasn't as bad as I had expected based on accounts/it probably helps that I'm a New Yorker. Also, my French is crappy, but it helped me a TON. I would've been so confused/way more scared if I didn't know what people were saying/realizing that they are just hustling for money/could communicate a bit. I recommend that others just get a driver/do a full tour, esp if they don't know French. I went all over the country, mostly myself, and had a really great time. It might be my fav country out of 37, but I can also see how people can have issues, esp in Marakesh.
I WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING AND RECORDED IT
I had watched your video so I ran away! I only lost 50DH. I ran right into tourists and they left off
I'm so sorry that happened to you too. Take care!
We didn’t give anything but we’re close too. They grabbed onto my husband. 😢

You'll be fine don't worry. Apparently this type of crime is becoming less frequent. However, be always vigilant and try not to fall in these tricks as I did!
Dont trust ANYONE
Just cancel it asap for your good!!😨 There are plenty other places in this world to go, and places where you can actually walk safely in the streets without being assaulted and harrassed!
Sorry to hear that. This area around Madera ben Youssef is the worse area in Marrakech. It has a lot of scammers. If you reported them to the police , they would have been jailed for up to 10 years since this is considered a robbery.
It is! That’s where we were scammed. Such a shame as this is where some of the poorer locals pray. Allah swt would not be pleased.

A lesson learned perhaps young man ! I'm sorry your trip was spoilt by the two "People" you came across but I guess you can bump into this type anywhere in the world. Thanks I enjoyed your video.
Hello buddy, just watched your video. First, let me express my apology to you in name of Moroccan, especially Marrakarchi citizens. Second, I am from that city I was born there and grow up there. The placed that you went to are really deeply designated for marrakechi citizens during your taping I saw that you passed through the high school where I used to study years ago. In general tourists that love to go to very old city and discover it they are accompanied by a certified Guide. Finally, I totally understand that after that bad experience you had you won't advise anyone to go there. Trust me I had bad experiences in else where countries, but I always gave to good ones to people. If one apple is bad we won't assume that whole bag is bad. Wish you best luck and really do apologize for the bad experience. Enjoy your day!

I’m pretty sure this is the same guy I had an argument with with when I went to marrakech! He said he was the boxing champion of Marrakesh. The people there can be dangerous.
I don't believe a word of your story. Morocco is very safe. Show us the proof. You're a youtuber you should of recorded the situation.
Thank you for sharing I was badly raped there 1 week ago in a public place !! I am a British women who was visiting for 1 week - the police are corrupt and the nightclub (555s it’s called ) has covered it up and ignored my pleas to see cctv.

sorry for what happened to you man, but i think the reason why that happened to you is that you are being too much stereotyping and focusing that everyone warning you is a scammer. in other words why did you doubt on too many people who telling you: "don't do something" and they go away. and naively trust on someone trying to convince you he's not a bad guy and trying to guide you himself instead of just guiding you verbally. my tip for you is don't even doubt in a lot of people telling you to not do something without asking for buying or suggesting another thing in a foreign country
A lot of people who try to help or warn ARE scammers, esp in Marrakesh. They are trying to lead tourists to hustle them one way or another. I just dodged all of them because I didn't want to risk it and it worked out. For example one was telling me that I needed to walk where he was on the other side even though locals were walking on both sides, to try to engage with me. Another kept following me to try to lead me and he was a restaurant owner who was trying to get me to go to his restaurant. People try to lead you to stores and so on by saying you shouldn't walk in a certain direction which makes no sense at all or they are trying to get paid as a guide which can go badly such as in OP's example. This is happening because of the economic situation in the country and people who take things too far. I loved the country very much, but I also saw reality which is quite difficult for most.
Your accent is hard to understand.
You did the whole trip from Barcelona to Marrakech to show us what? U r scared and the prices of museums are expensive than whole Spain… u can stay in your Barcelona because I am sure there … u don’t have theif at all, super clean, super cheap and u can talk aloud… do videos about Barcelona better for you Manuel and Marrakech is too much for you, it s for creative, designers people, entrepreneurs, artists and people with no hate!
Am I allowed to be scared if an armed dude assaults me and robs all my money? Morocco is a beautiful place and this does not represent the entire country. However I will not lie in my videos - if I had a bad experience I will tell the truth and I'm so sorry that you have to hear it. Regarding Barcelona, I'm quite sure Marrakesh is a thousand times more interesting and entertaining, and there are three times more thefts in Barcelona than in Marrakesh.
Of course there are crimes in parcelona and marrakech and in most big cities in the whole world. You just had bad luck. I you would go some other big citiy in europe that you dont know the same thing can happen to you and even worse. In many countries of europe there are actual organized mafias much worse than in morocco. Mostly in morocco just poor people using drugs does crimes but in europe its more organized. So dont think Morocco is worse than Europe you just had bad luck
