In regards to Opera Omina, I’d say it’s a better version of Fate/GO in that you are able to PLAY and level up ALL characters but the gatcha is limited to weapons and materials. Overall, ff is a less horrible than a lot of mobile games.
Have you played WoFF fully? You've had references to it a few times now... I'd love to see a video on it; it was overlooked in its time, but has good gameplay with real challenge available, and if you are mislead by the cutesy appearance the real AF story is going to gut punch you. Seems like plenty of content for a video, and doesn't involve 3 different systems!
Oh man another Final Fantasy video of yours to jump onto and devour. Can't wait to see you talk about FFTA2 one day *coughcoughcoward* But no really, I loved the video and appreciate it greatly. I started playing Opera Omnia a while ago and because I was too poor to get a PSP way back when, it was my first Dissida. I was exhausted from it after a while but now I might pick it up again to check out that spicy lookin 2nd act 👀👀
On one hand I want an FF Musou, on the other I feel like a lot of the older games (apart from 7)wouldn't get proper representation and that would make me sad...
@@freakyfro99 depends on the director really. Some of the musou spinoffs like hyrule warriors and pirate warriors have a great range of characters, while others like fire emblem warriors are horribly stunted and do a poor job representing the franchise. I think Squeenix would insist on at least the characters that make up the main casts of dissidia/opera omnia.
I'd buy a musuo ff game, and I haven't really played much ff. I master the original tactics game, and war of the lions......actually I've beat every ff tactics game, but none of the main line games.....funny
@@Highstar25 Very true. I had FE Warriors on my mind but those other two are really good examples of well done casts. Especially One Piece. I don't even particularly care for OP but the game was super fun to play in part because of the wide variety of characters. I like how they dealt with upgraded versions of the characters and I feel like that mechanic would work really as a way to bring over the job system that's in some of the games. It could be really interesting and I'd probably buy it regardless tbh... Now we just need to petition Squeenix to give us a Musou lol.
Probably cause its an RPG, something Final Fantasy fans are already used to and like. NT being an arena fighter is what already makes so many western fans adverse to it. Its just not a kind of game they typically play
@@oniuserjh That's why I like Tokyo Beatdown on the DS. It has some problems with its gameplay, but the writing is some of the best I've seen in a game.
Man the psp dissida games were so perfect in almost every way. I was estatic after the second one to see where the future would take it. And then I heard it would be on the ps4 and...yeah it's cool with all the new characters but the lack of HP attacks (you get one for some reason.) and the three v three and yeah it was unfortunate.
I remember after Duodecim, and then hearing the next one would be on console, the main fan wishlist seemed to be, "We want more characters, more moves, and customization options!" Apparently Square heard "We want fewer characters, fewer abilities and 3 vs 3!"
Tell me about it. The extremely different playstyles and the absurd level of customization were all I loved about it and NT just ruined all of it. Not to mention how Dissidia felt like so much more of a labor of love than the almost wooden NT.
@@vadandrumist1670 I'm sorry but I don't agree at all. NT's combat is just sad in comparison to the PSP games. Characters don't feel nearly as unique as they were, movesets are not only much smaller but a lot less interesting and 3 v.3 is not only a mess but makes the whole feeling of OP monsters and titans fighting one another disappear in favor of a faux party system.
Opera Omnia is one of the fairer gatcha games i have played, still a predatory business model, but there is a spark of life/soul inside of it. I just want a PSP style Dissidia on current hardware.
Qaztim Eleven I've played both opera ominia and ffbe. Both games definitely have issues with gatcha mechanics but I enjoy opera ominia for everything stated here and ffbe for a good throw back to 2d final fantasy games and having a good story with likeable characters.
I agree with this. I tolerate the gacha because the game itself is both generous and consistently enjoyable, but if there was a full console RPG Dissidia then I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
played opera omnia for a while, but it's definitely not a game for the fans. Unless you sink hundreds of dollars into the gatcha system you WILL eventually hit a brick wall. Not to mention the constant limited time events purely designed to press on that whole aversion to loss part of our brains and get us spending.
@@aliciafraser1835 I don't know about your luck, but I've been playing Opera Omnia since day Global's release and I keep up pretty well. The game is actually very generous with gems and tickets needed for the Gatcha, and the Gatcha itself is really not bad at all. I'm a semi-F2P (I only spend money for some alternate outfits). They always give us events to keep us busy and the story is good as well.
@@bondyaliano I started the same time you did but stopped sometime after act 2. I was constantly stopped dead in my Tracks by fights that were just impossible for me to complete, and rarely got more then a single gold when rolling, generally the garenteed one from full pulls, and it was always garbage, never once saw a banner gold. And never once got a gold from single pulls. And that doesn't change the fact that they do those crappy limited time banners at all. Hate that garbage.
@@aliciafraser1835 To be honest, you probably just have shit luck. There are enough people who have no problem playing this game. The RNG just hates you, i guess. (Terrible FE 7 flashbacks.)
@@aliciafraser1835 That's not exactly true. All gacha games are insidious to some degree, but DFFOO is by far the most generous of its type that I've ever played. You would literally have to spend hundreds in order to get the same amount of gems that you can get by completing a single month's worth of content. I've been playing since release, there is very little content I haven't completed and while I have bought a few costumes, the ratio of paid to free gems is like a drop in the ocean. I have upwards of 30 EX weapons (I admit my luck is above average, it does help) and am currently sitting on a stash of 412k gems and 350 or so tickets, waiting for the introduction of CHAOS and EX+. The system has continued to improve now that there is a hard cap of 75k gems per EX weapon on any given banner, which was introduced earlier in the Global version. That said, I'm sorry to hear you've had bad experiences with the game. But compared to most mobile P2W garbage out there, I've had a lot of enjoyment out of Opera Omnia. Enough that it's the only game I've actually uploaded footage of so far, lol.
Kinda funny that Duodecim let you make a custom mode where you can set up a sudden death with massive EXP gain. Go in with a level 1 character against level 100 Gabranth. One shot him instantly for mass level gains while he can't even hurt you without EX Mode, in the off chance you miss. Probably the easiest level grinding method in a final fantasy.
One of my favorite story moments in Opera Omnia was Seifer meeting Laguna and gushing all over Laguna and saying that he started learning about gunblades because he watched Laguna’s dumb movie with the red dragon. I don’t know if that was something I missed that was in the original FF8 game, but if it wasn’t, that was a really fun addition to the story for me. I’ve been enjoying the game a lot, but it’s frustrating to me to not be able to recommend it because you don’t know how impulsive a friend might be and as “fair” as the gacha is, it’s still something that allows you to empty your bank account which no game should.
I think it's hinted at once in a missable scene, and the way Seifer holds his gunblade is the same way Laguna does in the movie scene, which is a nice touch.
There are a lot of scenes in Opera Omnia that made the thing we want happening. Jecht and Auron together, the meet-up of Ivalice Alliance heroes, Gilgamesh finally has a fight against Exdeath, Eternal Calm-era characters having a reunion with the deceased Sin-era characters, and finally a conversation between post-mortem characters and living characters. For the issue of needing money for the rare weapons, you usually need one or more of these following: 1) Know about the JP version, which has 8-9 months ahead on its content. 2) Manage your resources 3) Make sure you have characters that can carry you throughout the era of the game (Cloud and WoL would carry you in early Chaos Era). This is a Gacha Game that is not burdened by rarity of items, and farming the currency of this game (in this case is Gem). I am F2P Day 1 player with the knowledge on JP version. I have now 32 EX, with a lot of them would carry me in Chaos difficulty Era.
The fault with Gacha games entirely, Ray, is that you got lucky. That's ... that's it. You got all this stuff by managing your resources, but I know players of many gacha games that spend money and aren't on par with lucky F2P players. That's the nature of a Gacha game.
@@Nekufan1000000 Unlike other other Gacha Games, this game is beatable even for those who played it for 1 month. I just saw players managing to complete Chaos difficulty, the next difficulty after Cosmos, with minimum characters they have. Usually the JP players have a struggling part as they have to go through this game blindly without knowing who are the meta right now. This is the game where they have a feature that ensures you obtain the specific item. I have a Gacha Game where I do it similarly to this game. But because they don't have that feature, all my currency (that I saved it for 3 months) of that game just spent without getting the unit I wanted (in my case is Rudolf Lucia, an Event-only unit on Guardian Hunter). I was overwhelmed for not getting that unit that would really save me from going inferiority. For this game, hold your Gems for 1 month and you earned enough of it to ensure you get the EX Weapon you want. You can even get EX Weapon from just tickets or EX Token (from the Event-only Start Dash and later in the future, Farthest Ends of Dimension). This is just even without having a knowledge on another version that was 8 months ahead of its content.
Ray John Ner Cacao This video motivated me to redownload OO, and WOW is it friendly for f2p people. There is so much in here to get new people up to speed, from past characters being permanently available, to no stamina system, to infinite Crystal farming, I had no trouble getting up to speed. I downloaded the game and, in a matter of about 7 hours, got MULTIPLE characters to the level cap, almost maxed their Crystal strength, and, through good gem management, got a good amount of EX and 5* weapons. I was even able to SOLO the current multiplayer focused event raid, fighting a level 70 boss with a team of level 50s. This is an INCREDIBLY friendly gacha game, not to mention the stellar writing and music, with good presentation. This is one of very few mobile games I can legitimately recommend to people.
Part of the intent of making it team-based is dilution of responsibility, where if things go wrong you can mentally blame your teammates that one time and go back to try again - the likes of League of Legends do it. In theory it makes sense, but after the prior Dissidias and their great single-player content it felt misguided.
I'm a filthy final fantasy casual who only ever played X, XII and cough cough Dirge of Cerb- cough, but I can appreciate how much these games mean to a lot of people, and listening to your passion while talking about them makes me genuinely happy and curious to try out more of them. Also, comments are good for the algorithm, so have some of that. Peace, Clempsy, and great work!
The older titles are certainly worth trying out (except FF2, *shakes fist*) but it might take a little bit of research to know which version you want, since a lot of them have gotten remakes for the DS and PSP.
@@Xenitag0 Dude as someone who beat kefka on savage and heard the remix of the final part of dancing mad.....it was the most satisfying and and exciting moment i had with any game in my life 14 is sooooo good and with shadowbringers its now legit mu favorite final fantasy if not...my favorite game ever
I've been having so much fun with Opera Omnia since it came out in global, day 1. More fun than I've had with a FF game in ages, actually. Not sure that's a great thing, but oh well. The icing on the cake was when my long, long, long held wish for Beatrix in Dissidia was fulfilled out of the blue by this game. And global even got her before Japan, apparently. So I finally got to have a FF party with Beatrix and Sephiroth in it, which is really all I ever wanted. Auron and Vincent too. All the character interactions are great, really. I especially loved the two of them sharing how much of a handful Tidus is. Or Kefka annoying Sephiroth, Kuja and Seymour.
I'm really glad someone gave a review of Opera Omnia, I remember playing it awhile back before getting distracted by other games and loving the writing of the characters to pieces
Two years on, let's not forget that young Wakka spoke Tidus' name in the first Kingdom Hearts. You only hear it on the second day on Destiny Islands, and you could technically skip over this tidbit if you don't ever interact with him, but it's there. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Also, obligatory comment about praying to the gods for a proper follow up to Duodecim on console or PC. Closest we got is emulating it, which is great now, but I want a fresh release, and preferrably some easier way to add your own music in game. Nice video btw!
The first few chapters were really bland IMO, although a lot of mobile games tend to start out that way since they don't really know what direction they're going to take. The more recent chapters, starting with Act 2, are more interesting, since characters regain their memories and the chapters themselves often make references to what happens in the characters' original games. It's not groundbreaking, but there are some good character interactions.
I've played Opera Omnia since the game came out globally and I haven't spent a penny. I can confirm that the gems don't stop flowing to you, there are always more ways to get some (as well as tickets). Money is NOT needed to play and do everything the game to it's fullest. Sometimes I forget you can spend money in the game because I NEVER find myself wishing I could "hurry things up" or feel that I'm "missing something" . I recommend giving it a go.
Same. I started playing it right after watching this video a couple months ago. Finished Act 1 and half of Lost Chapters in like 4 days, now I'm just waiting for future stuff to be released.
I'm really in love with Opera Omnia. The same thing that happened to Kuja actually happened to Ace, making him even resent Machina for surviving in Type-0. Eald'nache one of the villians from FFXI reveals that his plan is to use the concepts and rules from the world of Dissidia for his advantage, saying that there is a purpose for characters remembering that they have died in their own worlds. Since they're dead in their own worlds but alive in the Dissidia world, it means that when everything is over and everyone returns to their respective worlds they would return to the point in time when they were still alive; if they could find a way while in the Dissidia world to keep their memories when they return to their own world they could have a 'second chance' to 'make things right'.
The best part is that Shantotto's absence during her mini-expansion in XI plays well with her presence in Dissidia, where her motivation other than escaping is researching an "ultimate spell", which might as well be multiversal travelling, something useful if XI ever shuts down, and something she's acting on since she's the XI character in the most crossovers (again, because of Dissidia, because before that SE never really bothered to present XI characters to people not already playing it).
Honestly I'd love to just see a remake of opera omnia as an HD title. Preferably with gameplay of the older dissidia games but even just turn based is fine too
Dissidia, as my first Final Fantasy, is for sure a game I owe to actually introducing me to the Final Fantasy games, with 9 being my favorite after I got a chance to play it. 012 Zidane main here
I liked playing as almost every character but Zidane was the one I was the best at using when it came to playing against friends, don't think I lost to anyone with him, so I guess I would say I'm a Zidane main too.
I usually flip between him and Terra, but I always found him more fun to use. I never had friends who played Dissidia but he was always my first pick for the offline stuff that was available
I noticed you'd mention D:FFOO Early in the review, and just thought you'd rip on it without really diving in (I'll admit that I'm a fan of it because a few of my friends play it), but then I took a second to pause and look through your roster. You've played for a hot minute there. A 70/70 character, and quite a few 60/60s takes time, and I'm glad to see that. It makes your review sound more genuine, not just a cliffnotes version. And your review of all of the games was fair and honest. This is the first video of yours I've seen and I've frankly seen enough to subscribe. Cheers, and maybe I'll see you in a raid sometime!
You get it Clemps, if I wasn't piss poor I'd expunge my wallet into your Patreon, a friend introduced me to your channel and I truly wish I could sometime sit and discuss so many of these topics for at least 10 minutes or so, but instead of just rambling on about how much I've appreciated subscribing to you, I'll just say this; Thank you for making such amusing and amazing content over games I adore so far, even ones I didn't think I'd want to play, love your work and your cleaning gloves wearing self, and I will more than gladly wait any amount of time needed if it means a good quality video from you again. Take care, and keep on being you.
"If a new game which is closer to [The original PSP games] is made in the future, I'd like them to have an optional mode, where stats, items, and levels are all equal, so it makes matchmaking easier, and everyone can have a fair fight" 10:05 ...but they did, Clemps. The original PSP games *did* have a multiplayer lobby that locked players in level groups of 30 or 50 or 100. The original PSP games were multiplayer too. Otherwise good video. ^^
Yeah... Everytime this line comes up in retrospective, it makes out the PSP games like they had no ability to be fair for 1v1 fights, when it totally can and has been.
Record Keeper and Brave Exvius use them, and IIRC they have completely different classes in each. One of them is also in WoFF IIRC. I still think it's a good thing Dissidia went with Onion Knight - the 1st, 3rd, 11th and 14th FF put you in control of "blank" characters you get to make, and while named protagonists are more marketable, "blank" player characters are still an important part of series history and can be put to interesting use.
My faith in Square Enix has been inconsistent as hell man, but Dissidia 012 and Crisis Core are what I turn to when I need a reminder of why I loved their games in the first place. Amazing video, dude.
While it is a gacha game, which is always worth pointing out, I think it is also worth mentioning that Opera Omnia does get one thing super right. The characters are unlocked through play. So if you see a character you like in the game, you can get them without spending any money. Character specific equipment though... Gotta fork up gems and pray to RNGesus for that.
Despite not being much of a Final Fantasy guy, I *am* however a huge fan of crossovers. Even for franchises I don't have much initial interest in. While I was vaguely familiar with Final Fantasy at the time, I became very interested in Dissidia when it was announced and it was the game that made me get a PSP, (a system that I pretty much ended up only playing Square games on, thinking back to it). So yeah, Dissidia was kind of my gateway to Final Fantasy as a whole, (aside from Kingdom Hearts), and got me interested in the larger franchise. And while I still haven't played anywhere close to even a lot of the games in the franchise, I do pay attention to it a lot more because of Dissidia.
There’s literally no reason to own the original anymore since Duodecim includes the ENTIRE first game, plus a second game on top of it. It’s a 2-for-one deal, and you can transfer your character progress from the original to 012. So you can go into the game with level 100 characters from the get-go
If the 3v3 bothers you set up 1v1 lobbies. The 1v1 feels like a nerfed or balanced version of 08 depending on how you look at it. There are less crazy stuff and combos rely mostly on setups and using wall bounces and wall rushes and terrain elevation but they still exist. They even brought back Jecht's Ex Cancel from 08. But something that would have helped immensely is if they gave more game modes. 3v3 elimination would have been so helpful for people who find NT too chaotic and it would create so many more stories of where you were 1v3 and clutched out.
I downloaded Opera Omnia about 4 days ago and I can't put it down. I rerolled my account a couple of times until I got both Cloud and WoL's EX weapons and together with Sherlotta I'm having a blast playing through the story.
I always just spammed HP attacks with squall until I won lol. *And Jesus ive heard that one line countless times* "NO LION..... CAN CRAWL OUT OF THE ABYSS"
After finding out about the bravery to hp attacks you can unlock, that's pretty much all i used. Because i played with AI on its max level (i believe it was called strong), they would always dodge normal hp attacks. Bravery to hp attacks pretty much remove the flaw of the hp attacks, which is usually the startup time.
I think that when it came dissidia NT, they probably should’ve kept that one strictly on the arcade. And then looked at what they could do to make a proper console release. Hopefully in the future we get a dissidia console game that really does take the best elements of the other games
Fun fact. Final fantasy opera omnia was released as a tie in to dissidia, the fighting game. Dissidia essentially shut down earlier this year, and OO is still going. In layman’s terms, the gatcha game spinoff *outlived* the console game it was meant to compliment
Literally paused DFFOO just to watch this video. Thank you for giving possibly my favorite mobile game some love! I never played most of the FF series but goddamn the interactions in the mobile game makes me want to SO SO BADD
You want to hear something ironic? The day I first discovered this video espousing your hopes for the Dissidia franchise going forward... ...is the same day Square Enix announces that they are ending support for Dissidia NT, with NO PLANS for a sequel.
Wow when I heard Kefka in that brief scene I had to go look up the voice actor. It's Dave Wittenberg doing his best Mark Hamill as the Joker impression.
@@yvastel8153 diamonds in the rough then. Smash bros, mario maker, kirby clash, along with the host of missing features like friends list, an easy messanger, catalogs, and complete cloud spaces for all first party games. It just rubs me the wrong way.
@@yvastel8153 I should add to that: Power Rangers *EVEN WITH CROSSPLAY* is insanely good online. American Switch player fighting a European friend on PC, there was *zero* noticeable lag. ...I had *zero* noticeable skill at that game, but that's beside the point.
I usually don't leave comments after watching a video but I wanted to thank you Clemps, I've been a long time subscriber but I didn't take the time to watch your latest videos. I haven't been able to sleep well for a couple of days and I sorta remembered your channel existed so I decided to see what was new and I was very surprised when I saw there was a video on Dissidia Long story short listening to you talk about a game that's very dear to me and remembering how fun it was and how comforting it was to play really helped me take my mind off things even if it was for a little while, it felt so nice and cozy it almost brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much for all your great videos. PS. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language and I'm too tired to proof-read
Glad to see you weigh in on this one! Dissidia cemented my longest running friendship to date. Your opinions pretty much mirror my own and I really hope any new iterations (or upscaled remakes of old ones) go back to 1 on 1 at least as an option. It just seems like Square was being very stubborn when they said that 1v1 wouldn't even be an option in NT. But I can understand that now due to the fact the game is balanced around 3v3 and a 1v1 would be a terrible time for all but a few characters in the cast because many marksman type characters rely on allies to set them up or distract others.
im always up for more characters dealing with things after the journey of their respective games. im just going to watch all the cutscenes of opera omenia
Dissidia, a game that brings back alot of fond memories. I remember getting a psp for christmas and Dissidia (The first one) Just came out. So I got that game alongside it. I've sank hours into it, maxing all the characters, getting all the special good gear. Also, at that time, I used my psp for radio purposes at night. And I remember faithfully, that one night I found Final Fantasy Radio, by total accident. Finding it had a chatroom and a music radio + stream dedicated to 24/7 Final Fantasy stuff. Unfortunately that time has passed and the place has died down. But Everytime I see my copy of Dissidia I think back to the days I spent there, listening idly to the streams while playing Dissidia. Thanks for this amazing video! It was fun to see you talk so loving about FF9, my alltime favorite and first FF ever.
Thank you Clempsy~ I wouldnt expect Dissidia to be mentioned again nowadays. Ive sunk hours upon hours into the original two Dissidia games, it was literally an all-stars final fantasy fighting game sprinkled with RPG elements which was a match-made in heaven for me! It was kinda like one of those fan scenarios of "What if Sephiroth were to fight Squall?" Im sure every final fantasy fan would of thought about it at least once before. I actually even got myself started uploading videos on YT with Dissidia back in the day (shameless-plug) creating combo videos for the community; showcasing the potential of what the game can offer in terms of mechanics and for the fun of it. Heck there was even a time where I thought "What if the next Dissidia is team based?" then lo and behold Dissidia Arcade was announced years after Duodecim. Sadly Arcade was only in JP for the longest time, so my interest has dwindle over time, even with NT out now; it really feels like a watered-down version of its predecessor. As for Opera Omnia, I havnt touched it because Ive played Brave Exvius a while back and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. Though I do have hope for it as other players praised it over Brave Exvius. Who knows maybe I'll consider giving it a shot someday and just like you Clemps; I can only hope that the next one would be a culmination of what theyve learnt over the years of making Dissidia.
I have so much I could say about Dissidia. My combined playtime for the original and 012 is 700 hours, and it could have been even more if my PSP hadn't basically died. Even crazier is that most of that time was spend on the quick battle mode, just going from one fight to another just to level up all the characters to max, just because I really enjoyed the game that much, probably too much. Part of it also was that it was the game that made me pick up my PSP again and actually using to play after not touching it for years. For quite a few years in my teens I carried my PSP everywhere and used it as a Dissidia machine and a MP3 player. Dissidia was also my introduction to the whole series, sort of, because I had played a bit of FFX many years before but that's about it. After Dissidia I played from 1 to 10...even if I actually never finished any of them because it's hard for me to get into a turn based RPG, but I got very close to the end with half of them. Still have to start XV. So I absolutely share the same experience with NT up until its release. Hyped, then dissapointed when it was only for arcades, then hyped again with the PS4 announcement, and then...as all the changes and detais where revealed my interest when from max to zero. I played the demo and stopped playing after 10 minutes, never touched it again. Such a waste of potencial. It kind of feels like a Paper Mario situation. The fans clearly want a return to the original, but for whatever reason it doesn't seem like that's gonna happen. And it's sad when the phone game looks more appealing to me than the console version. I actually would have tried it when it came out if I wasn't already playing a certain gacha game that already takes too much of my time (luckly not money). Now I'm a bit tempted to at least read the story, because a lot of those character interactions do look very good.
@@cobaltdeleon This is from my other comment. Sorry for the late response. I play NT competitively, so I think I can give a different perspective here. Keep in mind that im heavily biased as I absolutely love this game. First off, this game is a discord fighter. The playerbase is too small for the ranked mode to reliably give you good matches, you have to organise your own. But even then, the game is very unstable when it comes to lag and disconnects. That and the very steep learning curve mean that its really really hard to get into the game. You basically have to join a new community and get your butt kicked for weeks until you are somewhat competent at the game. There is also the problem of people expecting the game to be like the old dissidia games when it really is more like a fighting game. There are fun modes here and there, but most of your time should be spent online, fighting real players. Once you do that however, the game is insanely fun. The 3v3 aspect brings in a lot of complexity and depth to dive into. You can play a character for weeks straight and still not be great at them as there is just so much to learn. Switch up your team composition and there is yet more to learn. And the most important thing of all, once you cross all the hurdles: Get a smooth match, find a permanent team to train with and get competent enough to appreciate the finer details of the combat system (Frame data, memorising dodge timings for HPs, learning to defend yourself safely etc.), it is actually insanely fun. There is just nothing like it. Saying the game has little replayability totally misses the point. Replayability comes from wanting to get better at the game, joining communities and tournaments etc. Its the exact same with normal fighting games. If doing these things doesn't interest you, then the game simply isn't for you. But that is sort of the problem, not a single reviewer actually bothered to go through all these steps and give a meaningful review. Every single reviewer so far consumed the game on a casual level. And on a casual level, the game is objectively trash: Ranked is dead, there is not a lot of content and it just looks like a button masher. This is why no one except the die hard fans seem to like this weird game. But when you go through the trouble and actually learn and play the game in the way its supposed to be played, its such a good pvp experience.
Ever since I played the first Dissidia for I don't even know how many hours, I've been hoping for someone to talk in-depth about the Dissidia games and I always imagined you would be the perfect person for the job. Lo and behold, many MANY years later, my wish has been granted. Thank you for the awesome video!!
Every time I hear news about NT getting a new character I let out an exhausting sigh and remember what could have been. Duodecim was such a unique fighter its hard to believe they didn't just refine what they had.
TKM20XX it had limited online and you could only fight CPU, sure it was story based but for me I always wanted to fight a character that knows what its doing instead of an easy win, this is a guy who played the PSP games.
You the only person I seen talk about the Mobile game story when you brought up the part about Kuja I genuinely smiled from remembering me reading that out loud with my friends
Can I just say that I really like the wear-and-tear on the character models in Dissidia NT? I love that the characters get more scratched up and their clothes and armor get torn as the matches go on. That is a really, really cool detail, and I really wish other Final Fantasy games would do this.
Legit didn't know that NT was a port. That makes so much sense now, it is indeed fun though. just not as good as the PSP ones for me. Nice job btw!! Reminded me of the old days
This was my first Clemps video, and I really enjoyed it! You weave the comedy aspects of these kinds of videos in sooo naturally, it was avery fun way to enjoy someone picking through each Dissidia game and naming the good and the bad and the differences in each. I'll sub for sure!
I'm happy to see other Dissidia fans that also want the best for the series. It's great, it's fun, and it's got so much more to give. I have to say the original Dissidia was my motivation to play all the games in the series (I only played one or two before), and I just fell in love with the lore. I'm happy to see so much Bartz footage! Apparently you also like him. He was my main and one of my favorite characters in all video game history. Thanks Dissidia and thanks Bartz/FFV for so much. Now give us more! Make Dissidia great again!
Thanks for taking the time to talk about one of my favorite game series. I wish this series had a bit more attention brought to it, especially Duodecim.
To me NT's biggest problem is the fact SquareEnix forgot that Console and Arcade are two different things when it comes to multiplayer. They forgot to optimize it for Consoles. If they did a 1v1 would be done and available, Story Mode wouldn't be tedious just to name a few. They also forgot region differences, Japan still has a strong Arcade Community while in some other countries they are not.
The ps4 game is decent as a stand alone entry. If it was the only Dissidia game it wouldn't be bad at all. But after Duodecim was such a meaty game, NT is just such a let down. While I much prefer the gameplay of the PSP games, I can appreciate the streamlining and casualization of NT (especially when arcade games are notorious for being unfairly difficult to wring money from players) to try and appeal to a wider audience. Some of the new mechanics are neat and every character has a solid tutorial built around their unique properties. But the lack of side content along with the borderline removal of RPG elements just gives it no staying power. It can be fun but it isn't the massive, lengthy RPG that somehow worked brilliantly as a fighting game and kept giving you more to play with.
Zero Attention Gaming 012 never worked brilliantly as a fighting game. It was a good RPG game where you could wink hours into. It’s gameplay was horrible and unbalanced
IIRC she gets to share some scenes with other characters about time issues and dealing with fathers. I hope one day they add Lady Lilith too (whose music in already in NT, at least).
Im mainly playing dissidia games because i want the characters to interact together and do dumb shit together. Dissidia NT has none of that, the characters are just...there ? Im honestly just waiting to see if Gilgamesh can bring some fun in NT, but the fact that we already waited more than an year and that its still missing characters from duodecim is a shame. If the story of NT has been interesting i probably would have given this game a chance despite its gameplay.
As something of a Dissidia enthusiast myself (/glances nervously at ~1.5k hrs from Dissidia 1 & 012 combined/), it's nice to see a vidja on the series. I feel like there were a number of salient observations you made here, as well; felt myself mentally nodding along at various times. However, and while I totally get condensing the two PSP entries into one amalgamated talking point, there are some differences between the two that I wanted to expound upon just a tad -- apologies to you, Mr. Clemps, or you, dear reader, if you're already knowledgeable about them. So, y'know: incoming textwall warning. ^_^; I'd say the biggest changes involved EX and Assists. To start with, there were no assists in the first game; it was all about building that EX meter. As well, activating EX hadn't been split into the two results of EX Mode and EX Revenge. Rather, entering EX Mode functioned like a block (possibly on an Omniblock level?) /in addition to/ granting access to all the benefits of the mode itself afterwards. This alone made it powerful; combining that with the amount of EX gain you could build for via accessories (and EX duration if you mained Terra, as I did) made saving up a full bar nigh trivial. EX was hella stronk. In Duodecim...well. The addition of assists, and the resultant changes made to EX, tipped the balance of power between the two heavily in the favor of assists. I mean honestly, why coordinate equipment to enhance a meter which, once full, you can only use for a single offensive or defensive play, when that would actively hinder your other meter that can be used at half charge, and which fills on whiffing attacks? Assists are much more readily available, more flexible in their usage, and frankly, just straight up more powerful. I mean, have you seen competitive Duodecim matches? In the right hands, Aeris' Seal Evil is /terrifying/. The other change that most impacted me was how...story maps were handled? Sorry -- it's been a few years, and some of the particulars elude me. The main thing is that Duodecim has a FF I map that you actually walk around in to find dungeons, whereas Dissidia 1 instead has various series of what amount to puzzle grids from which one gains unique rewards on completing them at various turn counts. And as much as I liked the feeling of exploring the world and finding how everything connected with each other, I more miss having the series of puzzle maps that I can just navigate to via menu, and being able to check off each tangible reward as I get them from each map rank. Made for a satisfying sense of progression and completion to me. Anyhow, apologies for the sort of petering out of the...narrative focus of this post, I suppose? I'm quite overdue for sleep, but want to make sure the past hour+ goes somewhere, so...yeah. :B Thanks for spurring my trip down memory lane here, and acknowledging that Dissidia is a neat thing that exists. May everyone's Omnia pulls give them the 5* weapons they desire.
This one took a while!
Sorry it took such an age to get out, rewrites and reediting were giving me the odd headache here or there, BUT ITS OUT NOW! Hooray!!
Hope you enjoy this one, it was a bit of a passion project to say the least and I hope it shows.

I loved it! I remember playing this on my PSP for months. It brought back a ton of good memories. I hope we get more Dissidia in the future.
Holy shit they remembered crystal bearers!?
Can't wait to see you talk about FFTA2 one day *coughcoughcoward*
But no really, I loved the video and appreciate it greatly. I started playing Opera Omnia a while ago and because I was too poor to get a PSP way back when, it was my first Dissida. I was exhausted from it after a while but now I might pick it up again to check out that spicy lookin 2nd act 👀👀
Fun Fact, the lead combat designer on the PSP Dissida games was also the combat director on KH2 and the upcoming FF7R
This is incredibly reassuring to know, thank you for sharing!
I think he also did Mobius FF
Well, that puts to rest any fears I had about FF7R. Thank you for that.
That someone needs to be responsible of more games.
I wish he and BD1 did KH3
I'm still amazed there's no Final Fantasy musou game, especially considering how excellent the dragon quest heroes games are.
Could you imagine ARDYN BEATING UP GRUNTS WITH AN UMBRELLA.
essentially, an expanded version of ardyn dlc
I feel weird that the mobile spinoff interested me way more than NT did.
Probably cause its an RPG, something Final Fantasy fans are already used to and like. NT being an arena fighter is what already makes so many western fans adverse to it. Its just not a kind of game they typically play
Good dialogue between a likable cast can save almost any game for me, and im usually a Gameplay>Story kinda guy
@@oniuserjh Luckily OO has great character interactions, way better than I remember from even the first Dissidias.
@@oniuserjh That's why I like Tokyo Beatdown on the DS. It has some problems with its gameplay, but the writing is some of the best I've seen in a game.
My UA-cam comments are glitched
13:58 I love how Noct’s immediate reaction, to being thrown into another world, is to call out for his mom 😂
what's with final fantasy and the oedipus complex XD?
Man the psp dissida games were so perfect in almost every way.
I was estatic after the second one to see where the future would take it.
And then I heard it would be on the ps4 and...yeah it's cool with all the new characters but the lack of HP attacks (you get one for some reason.) and the three v three and yeah it was unfortunate.
I remember after Duodecim, and then hearing the next one would be on console, the main fan wishlist seemed to be, "We want more characters, more moves, and customization options!"
Apparently Square heard "We want fewer characters, fewer abilities and 3 vs 3!"
I miss running on walls and destructible environments
Tell me about it. The extremely different playstyles and the absurd level of customization were all I loved about it and NT just ruined all of it. Not to mention how Dissidia felt like so much more of a labor of love than the almost wooden NT.
NT's garbage story is what ruined it for me. The combat it sound, but definitely should have been expanded upon.
Opera Omnia is definitely a game for fans who love the series. It's actually my second favorite of the DIssidia series.
played opera omnia for a while, but it's definitely not a game for the fans.
"A level 1 would not do well against a level 100"
*Laughs in 100% Iai strike*
*Destroying Feral Chaos with lvl 1 Golbez noises*
@@jg2116 I remember doing that too, I heard the set up from a forum and checked it out myself, its was hilarious.
Just use Exdeath, why learn a lai strike setup when you can use Omniguard (it can block hp attacks) to block and hp attack counter everything
Exdeath's skill ceiling is ridiculous. He could theoritically be the best character lol.
For the issue of needing money for the rare weapons, you usually need one or more of these following:
1) Know about the JP version, which has 8-9 months ahead on its content.
2) Manage your resources
3) Make sure you have characters that can carry you throughout the era of the game (Cloud and WoL would carry you in early Chaos Era).
My favorite OO moment is Seifer learning what Yunas job as a summoner is and trying to kidnap her in a freak out because it’s too close to a Sorceress
The notion of NT becoming an “esports game” was squashed from the very moment it became 3v3.
Why is that?
Part of the intent of making it team-based is dilution of responsibility, where if things go wrong you can mentally blame your teammates that one time and go back to try again - the likes of League of Legends do it.
In theory it makes sense, but after the prior Dissidias and their great single-player content it felt misguided.
And not being on switch.
Yeah, it's more of a fighting game than a strategy game, so it's better in a 1v1 format than anything else.
@@haruhisuzumiya6650 Dissidia not being on Switch has nothing to do with its not being a viable eSports game.
Finally a UA-camr who covers what DISSIDIA's about and not with just 1 game.
One of the best parts for me in OperaOmnia was seeing Zack, Seifer and Tidus compete against each other in a squat contest
Same here. I love Clemps' energy and passion for these games.

Oh man...The Phantom Train made me feel like a kid again. That was awesome.
Bruh Opera Omnia is deadass one of the best mobile games
I love it
I've been having so much fun with Opera Omnia since it came out in global, day 1.
Covering the mobile Dissidia's story content is such a good thing to do! I had no idea there was anything resembling fun writing in that.
I'm amazed there even is any fun writting from modern Square anymore save for Kingdom Hearts and some of Dragon Quest.
The ability to have way more characters really did wonders for letting the common ground between many characters to come to the surface.
Damn Clemps, that thumbnail art has been lifting all day everyday.
I wish I could look as flattering as the very polite artists who draw me make me look. ;_;
The game you sold me on the most was Opera Omnia tbh
It sounds so good with the character interactions and all the diversity.
Preferably with gameplay of the older dissidia games but even just turn based is fine too
When you think about it... This truly was: The Final Fantasy Dissidia.
I bought a PSVita just to replay Dissidia after NT burned me out so quickly
You get it Clemps, if I wasn't piss poor I'd expunge my wallet into your Patreon, a friend introduced me to your channel and I truly wish I could sometime sit and discuss so many of these topics for at least 10 minutes or so, but instead of just rambling on about how much I've appreciated subscribing to you, I'll just say this;
Thank you for making such amusing and amazing content over games I adore so far, even ones I didn't think I'd want to play, love your work and your cleaning gloves wearing self, and I will more than gladly wait any amount of time needed if it means a good quality video from you again. Take care, and keep on being you.

...but they did, Clemps.
On the topic of FF spinoffs, y'know what I'd like to see one of them at least *attempt* to use? The main characters from the FF3 remake
Record Keeper did, but that's another gacha game.
I miss Luneth so much. Seeing him as a skin for Onion knight honestly hurts :(
Record Keeper and Brave Exvius use them, and IIRC they have completely different classes in each.
This was a fantastic retrospective that made me very happy. I have also subscribed because I CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH DISCUSSION OF FINAL FANTASY IX
Seeing Opera Omnia get some love warms my heart.
Been playing that wayyy too much lately, its really fun for a gacha game
Liam Aspinall same. I thought I’d play it for like a month or two at best and here I still am a year later
I’m so glad Opera Omnia gave my girl Freya so much love.
THEY BETTER ADD MY WIFE IN THE NEXT DISSIDIA
The PSP Dissidias had the best combat system in any game ever. I NEED a real Dissidia on the big screen!
I played Opera Omnia for a while and dropped it due to other games.
But Aoi Yuki voicing a character? Time to dive back in!
I dived back into it too, and I have no regrets. All the updates it has had is making it the best mobile game I've ever played.
Welcome back!!
I'm a simple man: I see Clemps, I get out my kitchen gloves and click while breathing heavily.
Loved the first game, especially since I got to play as the onion knight. I'll have to give duodecim a try sometime.
God I remember dumping a solid 100+ hours into the PSP games, those were so great
Cloud of Darkness x Laguna was the best ship. Fight me. I'd like Opera Omina to get a console remake.
I always found it genuinely bizarre how megahot they made CoD and (to a lesser extent) Ultimecia.
NEW LORE: PAT IS CLEMPS' DAD
Does this make Paige his mum and Elmo his little brother?
step mom and step brother, a older step brother....
God this must be so weird for people who don;t know who ANY of these people and cats are.
*And Jesus ive heard that one line countless times*
"NO LION.....
@@okagron Yeah for those AI bravery to hp attacks where the way to go, if not you were in for a world of hurt lol.
I appreciate that *SUBTLE* limelight you gave towards Laguna.
Especially the screentime, zoom-in, and his theme.
I think that when it came dissidia NT, they probably should’ve kept that one strictly on the arcade. And then looked at what they could do to make a proper console release. Hopefully in the future we get a dissidia console game that really does take the best elements of the other games
Man seeing Yuri and Layle from the Crystal Chronicles made me so hyped.. (Ring of Fates is the first FF I played)
Oh, Kuja, honey. I didn't think he could get more amazing.
I was waiting for this upload clemps!

Dunno, man. BBTag and Power Rangers BftG were pretty good online.

As a Switch user, this is pretty accurate.
@@yvastel8153 I should add to that: Power Rangers *EVEN WITH CROSSPLAY* is insanely good online. American Switch player fighting a European friend on PC, there was *zero* noticeable lag.

@@emulationemperor8924 Yea you are right. MK11, BBTag, Splatoon, Warframe, Paladins, Smite, and Power Rangers. Everything else is super subpar.
I usually don't leave comments after watching a video but I wanted to thank you Clemps, I've been a long time subscriber but I didn't take the time to watch your latest videos.
I haven't been able to sleep well for a couple of days and I sorta remembered your channel existed so I decided to see what was new and I was very surprised when I saw there was a video on Dissidia
Long story short listening to you talk about a game that's very dear to me and remembering how fun it was and how comforting it was to play really helped me take my mind off things even if it was for a little while, it felt so nice and cozy it almost brought a tear to my eye. Thank you so much for all your great videos.
PS. Sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language and I'm too tired to proof-read
17:09 - Yay, there's my Tweet! :D
4:07 Clemps: "see this number down here?"
Me: "HOLY FREAKING HORNS!! i'm sorry babe, you were saying?"
Thank you Clempsy~
I wouldnt expect Dissidia to be mentioned again nowadays.
Now I can’t decide what I love more: you or Dissidia series…
I LOVED Duodecim on PSP but the NT and ps4 stuff just didn't do it for me.
The emotions that the dissidia 012 world map music stirs up are so powerful ;-;
As someone who plays NT competitively, this is gonna be interesting to watch
So, out of curiosity, what were your thoughts on it?
Mood
You sold me on a mobile game better than any ad campaign from Square. Excellent as always, sir.
Maaaaaaaaaaaaan rip dissidia, those games were my favorites when I was younger!!!!!
It's not hard to find tournaments still. Plenty of people still play Duodecim competitively.
You the only person I seen talk about the Mobile game story when you brought up the part about Kuja I genuinely smiled from remembering me reading that out loud with my friends
they actually added 1V1 to NT. also some more storymode content apparently
Max Morgan Same. And I feel the exact same way watching this.
Soooooo when you gunna have Best Guy Ever on Coffee with Clemps, and talk about Final Fantasy?
I'm happy to see other Dissidia fans that also want the best for the series. It's great, it's fun, and it's got so much more to give. I have to say the original Dissidia was my motivation to play all the games in the series (I only played one or two before), and I just fell in love with the lore.
I'm happy to see so much Bartz footage! Apparently you also like him. He was my main and one of my favorite characters in all video game history.
Thanks Dissidia and thanks Bartz/FFV for so much. Now give us more! Make Dissidia great again!
I keep forgetting World of Final Fantasy exists.
Thanks for taking the time to talk about one of my favorite game series. I wish this series had a bit more attention brought to it, especially Duodecim.
New lore, Clemps calls Pat Dad.
Heyo rat boi love to see ya
Also happy to see Opera Omia
Dissidia Duodecim is one of my favorite games of all time! So I'm really happy to a video about the series that never got the comeback it deserved
the mobile game is 012x better then the PS4 mistake that is NT
EDIT: Freya is best waifu
The ps4 game is a port of an arcade game, which explains why it has no longevity in the end of things
@@DynaUK Ahh sweet subjectivity.
@@DynaUK NT had balancing? LOL WHEN??
012 might not have been the most balanced either, but it gave you something more than what NT did.
That chase segment music match example you showed off was fire!!
>Sees Lilisette
Holy shit I might play that gacha game just for her.
IIRC she gets to share some scenes with other characters about time issues and dealing with fathers. I hope one day they add Lady Lilith too (whose music in already in NT, at least).
She was actually ALMOST in Duodecim, but they decided to go with Prishe instead
@@HarrisBoe Source?
Cross the Multiverse I read it on the FF wiki a while back
Love you clemps, thanks for all the hard work!
Too bad theyre discontinuing support for NT and has announced that they have no plans on making any more dissidia games
I made it in Mr. Clemps video! I'm so happy to be apart of this!
Did they add best boi Gabranth yet? I enjoyed playing him so freaking much.
@@aghadlarhen9397 yes, he is already there.
As something of a Dissidia enthusiast myself (/glances nervously at ~1.5k hrs from Dissidia 1 & 012 combined/), it's nice to see a vidja on the series. I feel like there were a number of salient observations you made here, as well; felt myself mentally nodding along at various times. However, and while I totally get condensing the two PSP entries into one amalgamated talking point, there are some differences between the two that I wanted to expound upon just a tad -- apologies to you, Mr. Clemps, or you, dear reader, if you're already knowledgeable about them. So, y'know: incoming textwall warning. ^_^;
I'd say the biggest changes involved EX and Assists.
