This is me reading too much into it, but... I think what Mayuzumi said is completely right. People have a hard time connecting with her because they’re never sure what she believes. I don’t think it’s a personality problem but rather it’s that she lets us think that it’s a personality problem in the first place. That’s the difference between Kanae and Sasaki, because Kanae gives off the impression of an angel who’s good at playing the devil, whereas Sasaki is a devil that can pretend to be an angel-or at least, that’s how it seems to us, because we don’t know either one’s true personality. But even in this video, Sasaki’s jokes at the others’ expenses are directed towards cultivating that image-that she’s a bad person that only pretends to be good. And because she projects that image, people have a hard time connecting with her because anything nice she does has the implication that she’s doing it to get something over them, that the “nice” thing is actually a joke in disguise. I mean, look at the difference between this episode and Kou’s. In Kou’s episode, there was far less talk that was DIRECTLY about personalities, but we still got to know a ton more about Kou (and the others!) than we learned about Sasaki in this episode. Whether or not Sasaki even has any of the issues she pretends to is beyond the point because she makes us doubt that she has them in the first place, unlike the pure authenticity of Kou. Sasaki, on the other hand, is great at making jokes. She’s really good at being funny, but unlike others she does it at the EXPENSE of authenticity, rather than the joke arising from the authenticity. When Kanae plays a joke on someone, it’s funny because he’s normally telling the truth, and so you tend to believe him-until, of course, the harmless thing happens and everyone shares a laugh, Kanae for tricking you and you for being tricked. When Sasaki plays a joke on someone, it’s funny because the recipient of the joke isn’t sure what to do with the knowledge, whether Sasaki was actually telling the truth or not, and is forced to make a decision that lets Sasaki, and the audience, laugh at their expense. They have to become self-aware within the joke just to avoid looking like an idiot. And one more difference between her and Kanae, when you see Kanae talking about his worries it comes off as incredibly authentic and very grounded in his actual thoughts, and he really shows himself as someone who can tell jokes and can be shockingly deep. Sasaki can only tell jokes; that’s the character she’s built for herself. Anyway, I just hope that the next guest comes with real worries and true authenticity.
