If you're still alive you can try to turn things around for the better every day. It doesn't mean it will become better but at least you gave it 100% and that's more than enough.
I LOVE this song,I told my kids "I want this song at my funeral." To have this much to say at the young age he was, unreal
How I wish I could have been there when Jim was alive... born too late unfortunately. Still, I got to grow up listening to this man's beautiful songs while my dad played along with his guitar. This song, and many of his others, are some of my favorite memories. Thank you, Jim.
Yeah I was born late too be nice if I could here jim croce play all his music.
Jim Croce was a big part of my college years...I love his music, his voice, his lyrics. I still remember where I was when I heard on the radio early one morning that he had died. I was in shock. We lost a great singer/composer/person. RIP Jim. I still play your music all these decades later!!!
Whenever i cant sleep at night because i'm pondering the mistakes i've made and the regrets that make me shiver with anger, embarrassment and frustration this song calms me down and i know those mistakes are all leading me somewhere
This hits home every time. I'm living a life of failure mostly due to mental illness but also partially my own doing. There is nothing sadder than having life pass you by bringing you pain and hardship yet not balancing it with good things. I'm not bitter anymore though. I accept my fate.
Jim is one of the most honest musicians I've ever heard. It's quite amazing, he lays it all out. I've made so many friends and girlfriends listen to him its absurd.
It's as if Jim Croce wrote this about me.I was born in March 1974,six months after he died and yet this sobering song became the story of my life.I would have done things differently though if I was given a chance but you don't really get that opportunity to go back.I'm now older than Jim was when he died.I've walked a long road full of pain and got nowhere.I get tired just thinking of the long road still ahead.I feel sad and frustrated for facing hardships not faced by others and for so little rewards while others bask in the joys of life.Hearing this song every so often lets me know others suffer too and as long as you're still around things can turn around for the best or at least become more bearable.
I started listening to Jim back in 1972 when I was in the USAF. Now, at 66 Years old I find this song fits me to a T....and the music Jim Pnays and Sings never gets old!
A Great singer/Songwriter...I Miss Him...A Big Part Of My Childhood and Poetic Development...A True Master
This song touched me deeply the first time I heard it in the mid 70's and still does today. Thank you Jim and I'll always miss you.
My life's story.jim and Maury are missed each and every day. They are the friends I never met but hold with very high esteem. Their music and memories are still changing people's lives. We remember!
Very well said I learned guitar just because of them and only play Jims music!!
yes, we cant forget marty,
...Maury
Over 40 years later and Jim Croce's music still is relevant and has resonance. Between him and Stevie Ray Vaughn it's hard to imagine how American music might be different had they both not died untimely deaths.
I'm having this song played at my funeral-at lease twice! It's so true to my life!
There is something about this Jim. His songs, his voice.........can't say what is, but he 's got this strange and magic effect on me.
Talent
Enough cannot be said about the legacy, lives and music.many people helped Jim in his musical career.without, Maury, Mr cashman and Mr west the world would have never know Jim crocus music
My heart aches at the journey through this song. The Melody, the Lyrics, and the reminders of a hard life being well lived.Wish Jim was with us longer. So much longer.
this man has always been there for me when my relationships weren't ! every word seemed like he spoke for me . R.I.P.jim croce you will never be forgotten .
So often Jim seemed to be speaking from MY heart. I suppose that is the sign of a truly great artist. But this song in particular is an account of my younger days.
RIP Jim and Maury. THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC
I'm german, have been a toddler when Jim passed away and if it were'nt for for a scottish friend of of mine, i would never have come to know him, but I can't describe how much I adore him! He's second best, after my alltime favourite Van Morrison, and that's from someone who is usally very, very reserved to everything originally that comes from the U.S.!
The best song writer ever
"Jim Croce's Greatest Hits" was the first cassette I owned. Not sure how many times I played that tape in my Panasonic tape recorder, but it's definitely worn.
This song is beautiful and inspirational just like all of his music, I love every song I've heard. Thanks Jim.
what an amazing singer/songwriter
This could very well be my very favorite JC song!
But then again, they are all beautiful!!
Jim was such a great lyracist. He could take simple words and put them together in such a way it would have an iprofound impact and lesoons were learned. Thanks Jim and Maury for what you did in the time you were here.
Just love the music of Jim and Maury... thanks!
A modern-day Minstrel, speaking from the heart. And if you don't know what a minstrel is, Shut Up!!!
I love Jim's music and have since before his tragic death. I think the fact he wrote the Hard Way Every Time just a couple of months before he died. It makes the song even more poignant
+Greg Zulak how lucky you are to have been able to appreciate him while he was alive! Jim touched my soul a year ago, and I haven't been the same since! Long live the memory of one of the greatest songwriters to ever grace this planet.
many relate to this song.jim and maury i still hear you, feel you and your music still makes me feel wmotional.40 plus years and your still right beside me! I do remember!
loev all his songs. the world is a sadder place without him x
When I die I get to play my 12 String Alveraz with Jim. I have to say I love you in a song......Roller Derby Queen, I've played it hundreds of times with Jim right here on the Tube. God I miss his music, he wrote music with his heart, then shared it with us.
It's interesting how we look back on our lives and realize that everything we have lived has taught us and we have grown.
I love Jim Croce!
I have been a fan as long as I can remember just a great writer. also John prine and Tom waits
I love this song!
You can only truly understand this song once you reach a certain age.
Always the hard way every time for me.
I hear you man.Same here.
so under-rated ald jim was, love it!
Jim was a big part of my childhood to , he seem to always her me and was my best friend growing up
He sings well about life
When asked by a media reporter; "Jim what is your favorite composition so far"? Jim replied; "Operator was 1st and now it's tied with The Hard Way Everytime". (This is not an exact qoote. I've edited for space) I find irony at 2:06 for this was the last verce of the last programed song on the last ABC album of Jim Croce. ..."I wouldn't have done it any other way"..
amazing song!!
Ohhhh. I see. I suppose that in my wanderings on the internet I heard that this was the last picture. It shows you how non-reliable information can be when it comes from a non-reliable source. Thank you for those 3 points.
It *does* make me wonder what *was* the last pic that he in fact did take.
I would have done it so differently if I could....Life can be so hard sometimes and there are no rewards for hanging in there.
Thank, found this by accident. I kept singing this but didn't know the title. Couldn't find it on any of my CDs.
jim and maury the best.. .. sadly missed.
Well, I've learned at times it's best to bend
'cause if you don't, those are the breaks
So true.
You can only truly understand the lyrics once you reach a certain age...............
Ditto. The consummate artist...did his own thing, in his own special way. I recall that day also when he died. Almost 40 years ago...
one person must have everything given to them
0:42 This picture is very haunting because its the *last* picture that Jim Took before the plane he was just about to board crashed :(

Thank you 'Mahlercougar' for your responce. I had the pleasure 2 return to my high school for the "Time In A Bottle" A Tribute To Croce's 40th Anniversary Croce & Muehleisen family and friends performed for close to 800 fans traveling as far away as Canada and Alabama.Though time kept the star band "MAGGIE'S GUITAR" from playing this song I was able to play it for family & fans at the pre-party.Love & thank you for your upload. P.S. Check out Fans of Jim Croce by upperdarbybill on facebook
Dear upperdarbybill I wish I could take credit for uploading this video but it was by sofsofsof. Im really glad that you had an opportunity to go to the 40th Anniversary Tribute. Its really awesome that you were able to perform this piece there. When Jim Died, I was barely 1 years old. I think AJ (his son and me are the same age). Im so glad I grew up in the 70-80's
Id love to check your page out on FB
they never be another Jim or Maury. but dam we can try. cant we....
Jim croces music
Of course, God bless Jim, but what about Maury? He was as solid a sideman as I have ever seen! Incredible talent from Jim, Ingrid, and Maury. R.I.P Jim and Maury. So sad you never lived to hear your countless hits. :(
It's on the I Got A Name CD. It should be-it was on the original album.
nice
It only takes audio and a few pictures of Jim Croce and Maury.
I've had more than a couple of falls
Last song on his last studio album. As if he knew. . .
I have to disagree with you for a few reasons. 1st; This reverse photo is shot in daylight. 2nd; The troupe were in a hurry to leave, so much that I don't see them posing for the camera. & 3rd; The Fall of 73 in southern Louisiana does not seem to warant 'Parka' clothing. And I believe this 'Beach Craft' had been grounded for repairs or from a different tour.
Its not THE plane in that picture. Louisiana is not cold in september.
#JAMEL_AKA_JAMAL
hope my neighbor likes this one
+Purplerambler69 I dont know i would have to see a picture to know
He must have been a 22 too
Some silly soul a few months back wanted to say Taylor Swift was a better songwriter than Jim. Taylor is good, no question. As good as Jim? No, not yet. And by the time she is the age he died at, not yet still. I don't doubt her talent, but it isn't in the same ballpark.
She is not even close. Ed Sheeran is great though.
i meant emotional,sorry!
Did you realize he died the same day that Billy Jean King beat Bobby Riggs Sept 20th 1973
I am not a male chauvanist but I adore Bobby Riggs (I am not that big on lesbian tennis players) I lost twice that night.
September. Remember the match and exactly where I was that night
