The reason he came to Sibu as a young lad was because both the kuomintang army and the bandits were forcing young men to join their forces. My grandfather didn't want to be a soldier nor a bandit. Hence he left his homeland and came to Sibu to continue his living as a farmer.
@@rina8141 Boxer rebellion started from 1899 till 1901 while KMT first establish their power on 1919 and civil war break on 1927. I think your grandfather just too young to experience boxer rebellion in China at that time.

Been staying in Singapore for 6 years now and stumble upon this video made me missing my hometown Sibu so much. I remember the anchovy uncle as my mum always stock up anchovies and salted fish from him 😂. Anyway the river name is Rejang not ranjang.

福州人真是看得津津有味，好有意思，福州话虽有差异，却很亲切。我爷爷也喜欢写毛笔字，家里春联过节拜拜的毛笔字都是他写的。当然啦，比不过老先生写得好看。😂
