Try Novation Bass Station 2, with the latest firmware you have oscillator drift for the 2 DCOs and a tuneable sub oscillator. GBP 250 on ebay. Good choice of filters, overdrive, distortion, filter mod 2 LFOs with delay and more.
I love mine so much. Always have a big smile on my face when all three oscillators are played at the same time and are phasing. Such a fat sound! I will never sell it.
Yeah I guess it is more suitable than Moog especially if ya don't have one(a minimoog)there're alot things that are more suitable & less pricey. The same can be said about the Dom 1 and vice versa you of all people are aware that most synths from the 80's are more than adequately sufficient for bass. Kudos EK for posting this & for pointing it out that this synth is more than capable. Although it's among others, it can still certainly be appreciated for that purpose thanx dude 😎
Doing simple well is not as easy as it seems. Having the ability to do more is a bonus but in this case the former is more important. Thanks for the demo.
MFD Dominion definitely gives the very Popular Moog Minimoog or many of its hardware and software clones a run for its money. My Bahringer Monopoly has great bass.
I had one for a while. Can't for the life of me remember why I sold it. Probably was just short of cash or something. One thing I found annoying was the tuning. I asked the company why the turning pot was off centre and they said to tune it and then lift the cap off and place it back on straight. A bit too old skool for me :)
the low end on that synth is awesome :) having one myself i usually only use 1 osc at a time. 3 is to much. The only thing i dislike about the DM1 is the pitch ribbon and the ADSR pots are very fragile
I cant really tell the difference between this and My Novation MiniNova if I'm being honest they sound very similar to Me more so then My Novation Peak.
@@shereewild5924 Give me mod wheels over ribbons any day in my world if i can't use wheels for solo's then it's a look elswhere for another synth even though it sounds good albeit with lees than snappy envelopes.

Glad I picked up one of these a few years ago after the Sonic State review. Multiple filter types, 3 envelopes, 3 LFOs, 3 ring mods (one analog), 3 VCOs, and a multi node filter. Tuning is a little obtuse, and the envelopes aren’t as snappy as I’d like, even with the response curves. But it sounds huge and can save presets. The ones that come with it are crap

Very cool! Not sure how you feel about the new-ish Moogs that are out now. I'm a long-time owner/user of the Moog Source and a got a Moog Matriarch a couple years ago. Wonderful synth that blows away all the mono synths I've ever played.
@@EspenKraft the sound of the source is one of the most musical from monosynth history. The membrane controls are not so great though. Baloran the River is a polyphonic Moog Source clone with a capable interface, but it's a boutique and very expensive synth!
Whatever works in the song I'm working on I guess. They're both great if I sample them first. I rarely use a bass patch out of any synth. I prefer to sample them before using in a track. The exception are digital/hybrid synths. The Dom1 is excellent for sampling.
@@_greenleader Ah don't be. I still think it's probably the best bass synth there is for actual sound. It's oscillators are beautiful, I'd never part with mine. The limits I speak of are envelopes and of course midi/usb.

The Dominion 1 is part of the Super Hybrid pack I released just a couple of weeks ago. You'll find that here. So there is no dedicated Dominion 1 pack, nor will it. I did sample the best bits of it though.
Hey Espen, great vid as always! Do you know is there a way to get the sequencer/arp to receive or send clock via midi without sending note data I can't seem to get mine to do that and I don't see where one would turn an omni mode on or off?
Thanks! I only used it for a short time and my priority was to sample it. It has 4 different MIDI modes according to the manual. It would seem that it always send the notes out the MIDI port in arpeggiator mode. That is easily filtered though with a MIDI filtering device/box.
@@EspenKraft yeah I see the midi modes in the manual but nothing on how to select those which is why I am trying to find anyone that may know! Thanks for your reply!
Somewhat, but I believe what Espen is saying (and I've read elsewhere), the envelopes are not super punchy and transient. For anyone that wants the real snap of a Pro One, including the low end beef it has, try the Toraiz AS-1, its my favorite bass synth, Dave Smith did a great job for Pioneer on that one.
@@EspenKraft That will do it :). Though sometimes I want that punch while also being able to do subtle realtime modulation variations on the bass sound itself, really picking up the true analog character and range of the filter, something that gets lost in sampling.
Exactly what I want most of the time. I have no great love for analog synths all by themselves. Not in a production. They sound much better to me through a sampler. Mid- to late 80s pop music are 80% sampled or digital sounds anyways so to make it athentic synth sounds should be DX7 sounds or sampled analogs. Nuances will come from a tad LFO in the sampled sound.
@@EspenKraft Totally agree with all of the above... the impact of the DX7 and samplers on music of that era is undeniable. And, sometimes that's what I want. But even though a DX7 MKI was the first synth I ever got to spend significant amounts of time with, my interest in analog was born in the early 70's when I first started hearing early analogs and wondering how such amazing sounds were made. My favorite synth to date is my Prophet 10... which sounds amazing sampled... but so many creative juices start flowing when I just let the oscillators and filter live and breath and do what they will.
For the top end of the bass, anything can work. It changes from song to song. To cut through the track though, you need just the right frrequencies and this is awesome for that.
