The Apple Pencil has a function called Scribble, found under Settings, that enables the iPad to convert handwriting into typed printing. I don't know if your Pencil has that capability?
be careful with the generic pen. Every time I used one it made my ipad freeze. I kept getting (ipad under warranty) replacements because I thought something was wrong until the fourth replacement I noticed no issues until i started using the pen again. Great video by the way

Is good notes already on your iPad or do you have to download it?? I am getting the iPad mini mainly for a planner
You have to download it but they allow you to have three “notebooks” for free! Most digital planners are compatible with it
