@@antispin3311 thanks! Not to my knowledge. This was our first time in this area but from the research we did, it looks like there could be some bear activity, but it's not common. The bear population in the lower peninsula has been growing though. We always keep food put away and try to keep a clean camp wherever we are just in case, lol!
@@hafrica13 we hope you have a great time! That was our first time exploring there. It's nice that you can find lots of places to feel like you are really far away from everything, but there are also conveniences fairly close. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I feel it is best not to blindly provide the information but only to provide it to a group of known people. Unfortunately, there are just too many people trashing locations that are treasures for others. Great video as always.
@@GetOutBeHappy we are so befuddled by why people do that! We always hope it's a lack of knowledge about their impact because it's hard to wrap our minds around people just not caring. I always want to believe the best of people but that is probably naive.
This is helpful! Would you mind sharing around which roads you found good spots? We are heading there with two young kids and I’m nervous about driving around forever trying to find a spot!
@@RachaelPettapiece-Phillips we saw some great ones on the Eastern end of the Pine River Corridor scenic trail, but if you want to be sure about finding some spots check out the dispersed sites along Manistee River road. After labor day they are first come. When we go to an area for the first time, we will often have a campground in mind to as a backup just in case. There are some free campgrounds in the area too!
I never really tend to look on websites for campsites but i'll go on google maps and mark out places that might be suitable for camping. I really want to avoid people while i'm out there so I highly prefer to find my own site over going to a publicized one. Many of the publicized sites in manistee are trashed as well which is another reason i like to find my own and keep them to myself for the most part.
@@jamespostle6894 thanks for sharing your thoughts! We prefer to be away from people too and were really surprised by how crowded Manistee was that weekend. This was our first time in the area. We have such a hard time understanding why people trash campsites, but we know it happens.
Great video and information. I’m just getting into backpacking and rough camping and this was quite helpful. What about road conditions in Manistee National Forest? Can a regular vehicle such as a Subaru Outback navigate the dirt roads?
@@kentv999 glad it was helpful! The bigger forest roads are definitely accessible to any vehicle. This is a pretty popular and populated area, but still plenty of area to get away. It's only when you get on some of the smaller trails that things get sketchy. We have a few videos showing some of those trails also. I think all the areas we showed in this video should be OK for an Outback.
Great info, thanks- are bears much concern?

Thanks for the info. I'm looking to take our first trip to Manistee with my wife and daughter in a few weeks. Thanks for the info and tips!

yeah just get good tires. I have no issue finding awesome sites in my outback. I don''t see anything in this video an outback couldn't do.
