My compost bin is 4' diameter and 5' tall, it's looking pretty good at the moment and I've only turned oit over once. Only issue is I have it located on my property where the ground is sand and clay, so I'm not seeing worms. How can I introduce worms to my compost or do I need to move the whole set up?? It's probably 300lbs at this point, so it would be allot of work to move it.
I wouldn't move it. Are there worms native to your soil? I can build a pile on my property, and not one worm will show up. But I live in the desert southwest. When I lived closer to the river, I had Canadian night crawlers all around my compost pile, but no worms in it. Maybe you could gather some worms from around your area and toss a handful in your compost bin. Check out the sidewalks after it rains. My worm bin started from worms I purchased from a grower. Maybe check Facebook Marketplace or some other source and see if anyone local is offering composting worms.
@@scottsvermi-adventure8938 Thanks for replying. I have lots of other ground, but the place I put my setup is mostly sand and clay. It makes me wonder if the woms will ever get there. I don't think I was keeping it wet enough, I'm trying to water it more often now. If I don't get it hot enough, the seeds will live and sprout. My neighbor has pigs that will destroy a smaller set up, and I need to be near a water and light source. But, I may have to move it out onto the front of my property where I have more of a loom type soil. Maybe I can do the filing on a wood stake trick and draw up some worms and dump them in there? They'd love it, it's filled 30% with fruits and veggies from a farm stand.
Get yourself a cheap soldering iron, it makes poking holes in things more fun! Loving your experiments.
