This is one of my favorite of vintage military aircraft. Its beauty is in it's practical and solid construction and it's capability. My father, who served a couple tours in Vietnam, said that they were more confident and relieved seeing those in the sky.
I was with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam in1968. The Skyraiders were a common sight back then. The ability to hang around for extended periods was much appreciated by the infantry. Seeing them make attack runs was a nail biter because of their slow speed compared to the jets. They were exposed to more return ground fire but I never saw one get hit.
