Man I haven't saw fox get this excited about a race in a LOOONG time. Mike, Larry, and Darrell were elite in their prime, their call to the line gave me goosebumps.
Mark my words, someone will do a throwback to this paint scheme. Be it Trackhouse (of all teams), RFK, or even JGR somehow. A super iconic finish and a brilliant drive.
This Era of racing was incredible! I remember watching this race and cheering for Edwards, all while adjusting the "rabbit ears" (my parents were too cheap to have cable) and yelling at the top of my lungs when my favorite driver won his first cup race by a few feet!
Imagine if Carl drove for Hendrick back then. Burton departed there for the same reasons Mark, Matt, Greg, and Carl himself did over the next 10 years. Jack is impossible to work for, refuses to adapt and tells the drivers pretty much shut up and drive it. He was just lucky to have exceptional talent behind the wheel. Once it was left to Ricky and the Brain the lack of equipment showed quickly
Carl was my driver from that day till he retired. I met him at that falls Phoenix race as well and he took a minute to talk to me and sign my #99 Office Depot hat. Great guy great driver, it's too bad he didn't win his championship because he was good enough
Crazy, how you remember where you was during certain races. I was in high school at a mother/son dance, so I missed the ending of the race, but i had a feeling he was going to win that afternoon. Every time I missed a race, either my favorite, or a first time winner/a surprise winner would win. Edward's did bring a certain amount of excitement to the sport unlike others.
I wish we saw more of him around Columbia, Missouri. The only things I’ve seen of him around town are his name on a trail in town and a hero card with his signature at a local restaurant.😢
One of the 🐐’s in NASCAR I loved watching Carl Edwards as a kid 🏆 Such a shame he left the sport, he was an inspiration to me and my racing endeavours.
I do look back at his career and wonder what might have been if the points format had remained consistent, if it had, I'm sure he would have won at least 1 Cup Series title
Thanks for sharing! I remember watching this race when I was 9 - just shy of 10 - years old. Carl's photo-finish win at Atlanta was the start of an incredible career - he never won the Cup title, but he definitely should have at least once (if not multiple times). He is such a class act. NASCAR needs more drivers like Carl today.
I was at the Michigan race in 04 when Edwards raced in Cup. After the race we passed him leaving the track. He was walking back to his car in the parking lot.
I really thought Edwards has a top 5 car that day but he really gave it his all and won on the last lap pass. Missed Carl these days after he left the sport after a heartbreaking GWC crash at Homestead by Goofy Logano.
I worked for Mike Mittler, Carl is a great man. I had the privilege of interviewing him several times, including The Musial Awards in 2017. That interview is on My channel.
Every single time I watch any clip of any race from pre 2008. It’s like. People. That’s what the stands are supposed to look like. Nascar. Make a single day ticket 20-30$ and make a weekend pass 100$ tops quit acting like your tickets are some limited thing that fans have to still wait on the phone hours to get. It’s obvious they’d rather take half the stands down and cover half of what seats remain with corporate banners. They could care less if fans show up hell the way the tv deal basic cable only bs is I swear nascar is content with as minimal amount of views as possible, just a little racing club for billionaires to piss money away in
Honestly though Current Atlanta looks better without all the extra stands though but I know why they stayed up for so long. They should remove more seats at Texas though.
After Carl & many others left, I did too. Haven't returned. Nascar today is no where near what I used to like. I do like the 60s & 70s racing the best. It was what Nascar was all about, not this crap today.
Back when atlanta was amazing and back when nascar had the most badass cars. Cars today are 🗑 compared to the gen 4,5 and 6. Pretty sure edwards retired because he made his money, and the cars became way too easy to drive and was no longer fun to him. Wasn't happy in the direction nascar was going so he simply walked away and never looked back. If he didn't retire after the 2016 season the 550hp package would have made him quit the sport mid season.
The first of many backflips from a undoubted legend. We miss you every day Carl Edwards!
and i miss those cars and old atlanta
Hardly a legend
Random fact: Carl Edwards is the great-great-great grandson of the 19th President Rutherford B. Hayes.
Man I haven't saw fox get this excited about a race in a LOOONG time. Mike, Larry, and Darrell were elite in their prime, their call to the line gave me goosebumps.
that race was awesome for Carl, with the energy of the commentary it was an immediate classic
🔥🔥🔥
That always Rev me up.
Carl Edwards....one of the VERY best NASCAR drivers to never win a Cup Series Championship.... we still love you, Carl!
I miss Carl. Dude was the right level of competition and respectful. Always a hard fighter.
He wasn't respectful. He tried to kill Brad twice for no reason
@@Austin_Windric "TrIeD tO KiLl" hshshs
That Jimmy Eat World in the background🔥🔥🔥
Carl Edwards' backflip is probably one of, if not the most iconic NASCAR victory celebration of all time.
That and seeing smoke climb the fence!
I heard on the retro Radioactive NASCAR uploaded of Carl Edwards first win, Jimmie Johnson was like "Damnit Damnit!!!"
Fun Fact: Carl Edwards scored his first career Busch (Xfinity) Win in the very same weekend he scored his first career Cup Win
Kyle Larson almost did that in 2014

Will never forget that finish. Miss Carl Edwards.
Literally the first nascar race I watched start to finish as a kid. The memories are fantastic
Very underrated driver
Loved the Carl Edwards backflip.
Carl is a national treasure
What a treasure indeed
He literally is a descendant of a POTUS ! 🇺🇸
@@alexisgasnier4293I forgot about that until I read this
Became the mark Martin of nascar. Lots of wins no cups. Overall nicest guy around in the sport
Love the Jimmy eat World music in the background 😂

I did not know Carl Edwards was related to Ken Schrader. I guess it makes sense since they're both from Missouri, I believe.
Yep St Louis Missouri I think.
Carl was my driver from that day till he retired. I met him at that falls Phoenix race as well and he took a minute to talk to me and sign my #99 Office Depot hat. Great guy great driver, it's too bad he didn't win his championship because he was good enough
Carl was different. A legend for sure. I miss his personality the most. Should be a hall of famer for sure.

Such a shame he left the sport, he was an inspiration to me and my racing endeavours.
One of the best finishes. Anytime JJ gets beat I loved it.
SAME FOR ME TOO!!! Any week JJ didn’t win was a great day for me……..
My favorite racer of this era
Larry Mac sounded so good in the booth
"....still had a rocket shit..." loved that slip. Great video
Carl Edwards was on top of the world that weekend…
…and then he wrecked in qualifying next weekend…
Yup the weekend that started it all for Carl. I'm just glad I was able to meet him in person he was such an awesome guy!
I do look back at his career and wonder what might have been if the points format had remained consistent, if it had, I'm sure he would have won at least 1 Cup Series title

This race made me a Carl fan! ❤
I was at the Michigan race in 04 when Edwards raced in Cup. After the race we passed him leaving the track. He was walking back to his car in the parking lot.
Cool story bro lol
Im so glad Ive beeb seeing this a lot lately love Carl
Imagine if Carl Edwards 2005 season was counted as his actual rookie season. He’d have the record for most wins by a rookie in a season
I really thought Edwards has a top 5 car that day but he really gave it his all and won on the last lap pass. Missed Carl these days after he left the sport after a heartbreaking GWC crash at Homestead by Goofy Logano.
I remember this race well, my 25th birthday watching Carl win it and my wide expecting our daughterto be born shortly
this race was playing on FS2 today lol
Man I miss him always liked Carl Edwards
Carls Dad hung out with a 16 year old Dale Earnhardt Jr in the back of a pickup truck at a strip clubs parking lot in Topeka.
Carl Edwards was so good and he was running double duty for years. Wish he was still racing
I miss when the scores scrolled across the screen.
The guy I picked after Mark left Roush!
The guy I picked once Gordon retired.
AND once again NO ONE shows that the rear tires were almost melting off Edwards car at the end of the race
It was a heartbreaking day for Johnson fans…
And then he breaks Bobby Labonte fan's hearts in the exact same way later that year.
I can still remember exactly where I was when this race happened.
Future uploads: Random Drivers: Ryan Reed and Championship Seasons: Clint Bowyer 2008.
Nascar just did the radioactive for this
Such a great race
Great job bro
I worked for Mike Mittler, Carl is a great man. I had the privilege of interviewing him several times, including The Musial Awards in 2017. That interview is on My channel.
I Like Atlanta Motor Speedway 1.522 Mile Track In My Opinion NASCAR History Thanks For Uploading
In today's nascar. There would of been a caution with less than 15 to go. Miss watching these guys race it out.
For a while Carl edwards was the only one who could match Jimmie Johnson
I just want to know where you found the concert band arrangement of The Middle. It's amazing. I could listen to this in every video.
*Put Carl in the HoF already*
I’m mainly jr nation, but I’m affiliated with several other fan bases. Including Edward nation
1:18 all cup guys in a Busch race, glad those days are over with.
Unrelated.......Bro you're a TV star!!!!!! Seriously it was goid to see you on the broadcast.

As much Jimmie Johnson was my favorite and yeah Edwards crushed my heart that day but now I got over it and that was Awesome.
Miss Carl
I miss Carl. I miss Greg.
The first portion of the video having a brass cover of The Middle wasn't something I expected
Nice!
Love the pep band playing in the background 😅
Remember watching it live at my grandmas house, 12 years old.
Carl should be in the hall that's coming from a harvick diehard I wouldn't have hated him getting a title he was so close so many times
Seems like ages ago that Nascar cup cars had power, looked good, could slide out of the turns and put on a good race at Atlanta
A Nascar Busts request: Brandon Miller
He was a development driver for RCR in 2005 but he didn't work out like Clint Bowyer did
That transition at 6:57🔥
I hate it that he retired
Great video! Was that a marching-band version of "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World playing during the video? That sounded so familiar!
I drove stocks about the same time Carl was getting started and I had the same dream but unfortunately jack never came calling for me
I remember that weekend vividly, I was practically begging my parents for Pokemon Emerald which came out in 10 days. 2005 was a good year.
The middle marching band style brought me back to ncaa 2005 March madness
950hp real Atlanta race right there
Was the background music a band arrangement of the middle...my mind would catch glimpse and get zoned into the music lol
Yes, it's from the March Madness 2005 soundtrack!
Back when Atlanta wasn't a shitty superspeedway
i was there seen it happen from the pits if in doubt ask his airplane mechanic
Only driver in history pick up this first career Busch win and Cup in the same weekend.
2005 was a goated year
It was disgusting that a driver of this talent did not win a championship. Thanks to that useless 32 field filler.
Well technically, he went to college at Missouri for 3 years and took an engineering class
This guy is really playing NCAA March Madness 04 menu music lmao
Back when Atlanta was an actual racetrack.
I live 4 miles from that Moberly track.
After Carl & many others left, I did too. Haven't returned. Nascar today is no where near what I used to like. I do like the 60s & 70s racing the best. It was what Nascar was all about, not this crap today.
IT JUST TAKES SOME TIME
He almost didn't land that back flip lol
He became a superstar indeed. Too bad his career ended prematurely when he could have continued racing for another 3 to 4 years.
Edwards stewart Johnson Kenneth kahne top 5 those names alone you’d think it was a cup race
Kenseth
Marty Robbins

If only he didn't choke away every chance he had at a championship
Yes. He choked on that pretend yellow flag that caused him to end the season tied with Stewart. This losing to a tie breaker.
Never liked Carl after the incident on pit road with Matt Kenseth
This race made me hate Carl for life. Yes, I’m a Jimmie fan. Lol.
This was a clean pass. Nothing compared to the cheating Chastein who deserves to be excluded for life from motorsports.
Wish he would have stayed racing, he could have got that championship. I do know he was robbed.
