To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Weather Report, the Zawinul estate is excited to unveil a live recording from the band's legendary performance in Offenbach, Germany, on September 29th, 1978. This captivating release, available in separate DVD and previously unreleased CD formats, captures the unparalleled essence of a group that seamlessly blended jazz, rock, and electronics. Led by visionary musicians Joe Zawinul and Wayne Shorter, the band took a unique path by excluding the then-popular guitar.
The lineup also featured the dynamic electric bassist Jaco Pastorius and the newly welcomed drummer Peter Erskine, contributing to the quartet's unparalleled musical chemistry. This concert, offering a diverse repertoire spanning their career, unveils the musical evolution of Weather Report. Notably, the inclusion of both studio-recorded compositions and the thrilling live renditions fills the gaps left by previous documentation, providing fans with an authentic experience of the intended performance. As Weather Report's eighth album "8.30" was slightly limited, this remarkable Offenbach concert recording may well represent the ultimate album they were destined to create, according to drummer Peter Erskine. The captivating display of innovative musicianship and genre fusion showcased in this concert solidifies Weather Report's exceptional musical legacy.

The first time I ever saw wr was 1978. In fact I had only just discovered them in1977. I was a complete heavy rock snob and sneered at anything remotely different (jazz./fusion/funk etc). I moved to a new area and made friends with a guy who kept playing this weird jazzy stuff and I found myself actually liking it and pretty soon I was listening to wr chick corea / pat metheney and others. So glad too. I’m still listening to wr now at nearly 70 . Can’t say the same about some of those heavy guys.
