- With hits like "Chante's Got A Man," "Straight Up," and "Love's Taken Over," singer Chante Moore -- who has been on the R&B scene for over a decade -- could have had another: "If You Had My Love," as performed by Jennifer Lopez.
Moore sat down with NPR's Tony Cox and explained how P. Diddy laid claim to a song she recorded, and had producer Rodney Jerkins write a similar version for Lopez.
I never understood why she was not bigger than she is, she NEEDS the right people around her. She is so underrated as a singer/performer. She is so top notch.

For yrs I wondered and couldn’t (still can’t) understand why Chante’ isn’t super star status. It’s a travesty that went down w/the J.Lo song… J.Lo can’t hold a candle to Chante’ n no kinda way. She’s always so grounded, humble,bubbly and w/a lot of personality. She’s gold w/n her self… a class act.

JLo (the singing brand) was manufactured by tommy mottola as a way to get back at Mariah Carey, he wanted someone who he thought resembled Mariah and began using his power as head of Sony Music to try and crush her and other female artists he saw as threats. He took several songs from artists and gave them to JLo. Chantel Moore, Mariah Carey and others had their music stolen. "If You had my love" was originally Chante's song and "I'm Real" was originally Mariah's. Christina Millian and Ashanti have vocals on the song and weren't given credit as to fool the public to believe that JLo was singing on the vocals and not Christina or Ashanti. Those are just a few examples, please read up on the history.
She's adorable in this interview. Some of her mannerisms remind me a cross between Raven & Tamera Mowry.

Chantè Moore is a real woman and unlike Mariah she states the truth without triggering an useless "woman vs. woman" feud. Darkchild and Diddy are the ones responsible for that happened. Lopez is just an artist and heard the song without knowing anything about it. The industry is cruel and songs are treated like tools. It's not about songwriting and art, it's about money. That's pop music. Rodney jerkins smelled money and popularity and he just re-rewrite the song without caring about Moore. He could've said NO. But he didn't. She doesn't even blame Diddy, she just said "I wanna sock Rodney Jerkins in the head". And I see her.

I knew several exec at MCA at the time and that's pretty much the same story they told about why the momentum was lost on the "this moment is mine" project. They got trapped on choosing an alternate second single. But, anyone who bought or heard both songs in the summer of 1999 could easily tell that they were the same song...and if you bought Chante's CD, you'd know that she made it first. You Go Chante!
Her first single "Chante's got a man" was a hit. The second single flopped and thats what killed the era.

First time I've seen Chante interviewed. She's very underrated, been down with her since '92. She sexy as hell, no doubt about that and it sounds like she was very well raised. Everybody makes mistakes, the 21 dude she was with probably couldn't get a woman his age so he went after her. She learned from it and didn't let history repeat itself. Much respect Chante.

Before the bootyshakers that populate the R&B scene today, there was this beautiful woman, so incredible classy, elegant and with a silky smooth voice thats so special. Soooo underated!!. It amazes me how only the Vulgar, blatant and commercial can be successful in America, alienating the real talents.

Since it came from the same person of course its going to sound similar. So how is that stealing? Make it make sense. They never took chantes song out of her hands.
Jennifer lopez is not a singer she steals songs from other singers and it's relly hard to belive that she didin't know because she not only stole the songs but the vocals of other artists. Apparently it is enough to have a beytiful face to get a career in music indystyry even if you dount have vocals skills to be a singer. Reel singer dount use ghost singers. Chante Moore is a reel singer she has vocals skills. Jennifer lopez has workd years whit a vocal coach stevie mackey to learn to sing better.

Chante Moore ..... when I first heard her CD "Precious", it got inside my soul and it is still there. Instantly grabbed me and took me on a beautiful journey. It is a Beautiful CD. Chante Moore's voice is simple Amazing! I just purchased the two CD's that came out after Precious and I'm waiting for them in the mail. Can't wait. Thanks Chante.
Same thing happened to Mariah Carey, one of her songs early on were taken and given to J.Lo, and this is the source of the “drama” between them
They should've given both songs to Chante Moore her vocals til this day are amazing. If You Had My Love could've been a great crossover hit for Chante especially if it would've been released after Chante's Gotta Man. The original If I Gave Love could've been released either in one of the IYHML CD or Maxi Singles or maybe on a re-release on that album.

I came up with the melody or top and my child prodigy keyboardist/organist first cousin the bassline or bottom.Years, later I mastered the song and after joining Alicia Keys Fan Clu b in NY I put it on their answering service. Alicia was still in the studio on her sophomore CD. It became YOU DON'T KNOW MY NAME!
damn, that woman is still fineee! when she was first starting out, she came 2 a small venue in my town and blew it up! It was my 21st B'day and her album was already burning up with love taken over! Up close...I went for my autograph and she actually spoke with me for a few minutes! Very down to earth & not threaten by other beautiful women...Its been over 18 yrs & shes still looks the same!! hopefully, much happier .. that voice is unique & strong!

I don't think the JLo's version is better. All JLo's music is just glamorized demos. J Lo's not singing 80% of that song because it's a ghost singer. Rodney jerkins wrote the song so he has to write to use it as he wishes. He also rewrote that song AGAIN for the Whitney song 'If I told you that'. People don't understand how the music industry works. J-Lo has been known to use other people's material. She literally just goes to the garbage and takes tracks that people didn't want.
