  • On August 8th, 2020, I made my way down to Southern New Jersey to visit the SMS operations within the Pureland Industrial Complex, located in Logan Township, NJ. While the SMS is home to many different Baldwin switchers in different schemes, a few older GE B23-7s call this railroad home, including former BNSF 4211 in Santa Fe Blue and Yellow as I've seen before, and now this one, SMS B23-7 1961, which sports a new scheme paying tribute to the locomotive's first owner, Conrail. The 1961 was built as Conrail 1961 before being acquired by NS as their 4054. The 4054 went to the Delaware Coast Line Railroad until their liquidation at the end of 2018, when SMS purchased it and sister unit 4024. The 1961 is painted in a Conrail style scheme and lettered for the SMS with Conrail font as well, and is a spitting image of big blue. The SMS PL-1 crew is seen picking up empties from a few industries within Pureland, with the GE sounding as good as it looks as it performs switching duties.
    Thanks for watching!

I took Amtrak from Philly up to Buffalo in 1990. (12 hour trip...) I saw nothing but these types of locos up there- lotsa B-23s & Uboats. Nothing but ol' Conrail. Great to see the blue again, brought back memories....😎🇺🇸

How nice to see an old GE looking cared for. They seem to have got it sorted mechanically too, as it seems to be making hardly any smoke.

Thank you for the video! Nice to see SMS taking care of these locomotives that used to where I live! Do you know when they usually run? Thinking about taking a trip up there to film them myself.

My understanding is they work a regular day, 9to5-ish. They leave the SMS shop & head for the NS/CSX interchange first, then work it into Pureland, pulling empties & shoving the loaded ones in. 5 days a week ? Not sure about that one, though... If you reach out to them, they might be willing to give you an answer. And if the B-23 isn't rolling on that particular day, you prob see Baldwins in action. YOU CAN'T LOSE !! LOL 😎

Nice video! So SMS intentionally copied Conrail blue?
