That 3 pointed star usually offers directions to the nearest Mercedes dealer for warranty work. Nice car, but for my hard-earned money, I'd take an equivalent Cadillac. Maybe even the discontinued Lexus GS350 (which would now be a great value). This car is a lease, not a buy. The Caddy or Lexus, would be a buy. Or....would take a hard look at the new Genesis.
Minor correction, Tom. The Genesis G80 (and GV80) base engine is a 2.5L turbo rather than a 2.0L power plant. It's the same optional engine found in the Sonata N-Line, K5 GT, and the KIA Sorento.
The German car makers have all figured out that the most efficient compromise between fuel efficiency and power of a turbocharged combustion engine was to make each cylinder being a little over-square (i.e. stroke slightly shorter than bore) at exactly 500cc each: 4 x 500cc = 2000cc = 2 litres. Hence the ubiquitous 3.0 litre 6s and 4.0 litre V-8s throughout their lineups as well. Cadillac and the high-end Japanese makers followed suite because the marketing folks said to, perhaps.
Just finished reading the Motor Trend COTY. They said the All Terrain (wagon) is classified as an SUV by M-B. The ground clearance is slightly better than the actual wagon. My guess is the All Terrain will come in the E 450 variant and the actual wagon will ultimately only come in the E 63 AMG version. The new inline 450 engine is sweet, powerful, and quiet. We just bought the 2021 GLE 450 SUV and it is extremely smooth and quiet. It is noticeably more quiet than the 2019 GLS 450 which had the previous incarnation of the V-6 (versus the I-6 now being built). Very noticeably more quiet. Excellent review and THANKS!
Like the inside but outside leaves me a bit cold. Spiraling options list always stopped me from giving them a serious look. I'm leaning towards the decked out G80 myself but would like to see what happens with the ID.4 in the US. I know it's a totally different class of vehicle but if I go EV, that would probably be my pick. Definitely won't be a Tesla as I think they're poorly built and have sorely lacking interiors. All your car reviews are excellent, even if the cars aren't. Some "degree of difficulty" points have definitely been earned here for shooting a white version of a ho-hum looking sedan. @@tkewrestler2662 A car doesn’t show how financially successful you are to someone who is smart. Anyone can finance these vehicles and pay a monthly fee. What shows success is how much money you make a year and more importantly, how much are your investments worth.

@@TheGamingAudiophile there is no need to cast aspersions on family. I wish Mercedes would come out with an E580 with the 496 horsepower V8. I think that would compete more directly with the BMW M550I. The E53 doesn't compete directly with the M550.
I love the auto start/stop test. Audi really needs to work on the roughness in this regard. I drove a 2020 A6 2.0T for almost two months. The system was harsher than the auto start/stop in my sister’s 2019 Chevy Equinox. I have driven the Cadillac CT5 Sport but didn’t get a chance to test this system. I hope the E350 is much better.
The E 350 is pretty good, the 450 with the mild hybrid is nearly seamless. And GM does stop/start very well for the most part, and good that it's putting defeat buttons on its vehicles now.
2 liter turbos have to do with emissions and government regulations, especially for regions where you have to pay more for larger displacements (china is the big one there)
19 inch tyres wear out quicker, more easily punctured and cost more. The ride is harsher on 19” wheels. This model is for comfort, not performance... if u want 19” tyres, choose them when u pick options for ur car

German trio: Mercedes, Audi and BMW, but Mercedes is the only one that always works on the sound insulation of the cabin and that is why it is number 1 in my opinion. Yes I drive an Audi, but I have to admit that like BMW they are not able to make a quiet cabin like Mercedes can.
Nice review as always, Tom.
The E350 doesn’t offer the luxury nor value I expect.
Vinyl seats
Similar to a 1970 Buick Skylark
Not at all.
All your car reviews are excellent, even if the cars aren't. Some "degree of difficulty" points have definitely been earned here for shooting a white version of a ho-hum looking sedan. The styling, in white at least, is as visually dull as the four litters, um, "note". Surprising MB would want you to review this car in this color. Love the review anyway.
It looks like all the other Benz car's shame cause the interior is on point
Aside from inferior how does this differ from a C class?
I can’t bring myself to own a Merc. I’ve had a Beemer and a Lexus. I’m older now but Merc’s seem like they my parent’s idea of luxury.
My family has always been a Mercedes family. To me a Mercedes whispers wealth and success while other cars shout I am in a higher tax bracket.
@@tkewrestler2662 A car doesn’t show how financially successful you are to someone who is smart. Anyone can finance these vehicles and pay a monthly fee. What shows success is how much money you make a year and more importantly, how much are your investments worth.
@@TheGamingAudiophile, what I was saying in my statement is that a Mercedes E Class is a more low key vehicle. Of course anyone can finance a car, and that has never been my family’s course. It is worth noting that traditionally Mercedes highest net worth purchasers drive the Mercedes E Class wagon. I believe the E Class to be a more subtle vehicle.
@@tkewrestler2662 If your family buys their cars in full, that's financially stupid. You could invest the capital.
@@TheGamingAudiophile there is no need to cast aspersions on family. My parents traditionally have purchased their cars outright and then driven them for many years, which is when it is smart to do as such. Having four children my parents had certain goals for the family; regular travel as family, a college education for each child, and the chance for each child to go to Europe once during their high school years. My Mother’s ML 320 which she is still driving is a 1999 with a little over 300,000 miles on the odometer.
Leslie Nielsen is alive and making youtube videos!
I just realized those twins buy ALOT of toilet paper.
He claims he returns it, not believing it, much wiping.
Losing a drag race to a Honda Accord after paying $65 grand will hurt a lot.
Uh huh. Like that happens in the real world.
Evil twin is a musician??? You should have told us earlier! We look forward to hearing your twin in one of his gigs! ;-)
My next car will probably be a Mercedes. but I would not consider it not being an 8 cylinder (must be my concern for the environment...). AMG most definitely. And... second hand, of course! These car can run well over half a million miles if well maintained, so... No problem. And what a price difference!
However, I am very disapointed to see that there are lesser and lesser REAL opening sun roofs these days. How come?
The pandemia should remind car makers of the greatness of this feature which means only one word to me: Freedom!
(whithoug the hassle of a true convertible!).
I noticed your "vive la différence". As a true Frenchman, let's put it this way: it di not sound quite like it, but you're on the right track, Tomy. Carry on!
I was thumb's up number 80 on this video!
Looking forward to your next video and thanks for giving us more hindsight about your Costco metric (the best one was about one of the co-founders who said you could go ahead with your funny gimmick: who wouldn't like this funny story!).
I hate when they take away trunk space for hybrid cars. Figure out a way to put it somewhere else. It’s just lazy to throw the battery in the trunk
I wish Mercedes would come out with an E580 with the 496 horsepower V8. I think that would compete more directly with the BMW M550I. The E53 doesn't compete directly with the M550.
Just a 100hp difference bro a simple tune and they would match up
This car's styling is...well...
*So the E Class went from being a SMALLER S Class to a BIGGER A Class.* 😅
Huh? No.
2 liter turbos have to do with emissions and government regulations, especially for regions where you have to pay more for larger displacements (china is the big one there)
James....Exactly. I live in Korea and we also pay according to engine size. There's also an annual tax on your car based on engine displacement.
Yes, I was kind of kidding with that line.
@@canadabear72 How much would a 8L engine get taxed?
@@james2042 lol. I'd be afraid to even guess! Maybe about 5 grand per year?
@@canadabear72 well here in NY (us obvi) its 120 bucks extra every 2 months, and NY has some of the biggest "giant engine taxes" in the country
I definitely think the Italians and Japanese are better at vehicle exterior design.
Mercedes was foolish to send a refrigerator white (or black) press car. Impossible to photograph in a flattering way.
I like this car but the headlights make this car look weird like some cute car I’d prefer angry headlights
The new Genesis G80 blows this away if you actually want a great car and a badge doesn’t equal your identity.
18 inches wheel. common Mercedes an Accord has a stock 19 inches
19 inch tyres wear out quicker, more easily punctured and cost more. The ride is harsher on 19” wheels. This model is for comfort, not performance... if u want 19” tyres, choose them when u pick options for ur car
4 banger E class? No thank you.
