  • Because of bad packing my clock. I ended up with some broke out pieces in the beveled glass. This clock is a very heavy French clock I have been wanting for a while and the price was right on this clock so I bought it. Once I got it cleaned and oiled including the barrel spring, the clock runs great now.
    My friend Mark Munnerlyn has a UA-cam channel as well that talks about cuckoo clocks as well if you would like to check him out. www.youtube.com/@munnerlyn3/v...

    Here I do most of my work on clocks. Mainly cuckoo clocks, yet I am always looking for the unusual and eye catching clocks. Some of the clocks I get into are ones that need saved from the dump. They fell off the wall from not sucring the clock to the wall using the stud behind the sheetrock. Some of the clocks were layed to rest out in the garage or barn and I ecsept the challange of getting them back together again.
    A well loved clock at one time is one that has a lot of wear and you find old bushings that might need to be replaced.

    Thannks for this video, Mike. I had to do a cleaning and some repair work on an old french brass and glass with a little round movement like this one. Your video was just the tutorial I needed!

    I enjoyed your video. I just got the Waterbury crystal regulator, so I'll see if it is set up about the same. I'm excited about it. I hope they shipped it right. It's supposed to be here tomorrow. I think these are beautiful clocks.

    I think and I am not sure that the markings of "53" is to show them that the parts all go together for that clock. I like the procedures that you do to take the barrel cap off. I will have to try that. I couldnt understand the Mickey Mouse voice while you were putting the spring back in. LOL. I found when putting the French movements back together it is easier to take the scews out of the rear plate that hold the bushing (in this case there were 2 of them). The broken key would have had a smaller key that went with it that is for the adjustment of lifting the pendulum up and down. The other key is a newer key that they bought. Another great video. Thanks for the shout out at the end. May God Bless you and yours.

    Looks like a challenge to me, I would have that thing running like a Ford Pinto if I worked on that.

    The 4 11 is for the length of pendulum. The escapement with two shaped pin is a dead beat escarpment which is more efficient than a recoil escarpment and of higher quality.

    You've got a Marti French movement, how great thats a very good movement. Rare to find a real mercury pendelum! They started putting a solid color material later in the pendelums so you have a really good one...but dont open the tubes. Congrats!

      I knew that the tubs were mercury tubs and the look like they are sealed when they were made. Funny how the glass was stained by the mercury. I guess some times when I buy clocks, and about 1/2 the time I get a winner. Thank you so much for stopping in and letting me know just what I have.

    I remember when i was about 10 years old I took a clock spring like this apart and it shot out so fast scared the tar outta me.

      They can be scary taking the barrel spring apart. But very satisfying getting it clean and back in the barrel with no injuries. Thanks so much for stopping in Bat.

      Good Morning Will. I do believe someone left a comment that the clock was built around 1910 or earlier.

    My papa always told me it's better not to restore old clocks. Leave them as much as you can as original because the value will be taken away.

    • @justmike57
      @justmike57  Рік тому +2

      Your papa is right, but you have to remember that it is your clock and if you don't like what you see, then fix it your way so you can be happy with it.

      It all depends. Normally you are looking between $250.00 to $600.00
