You wouldn't expect a Metal Gear beat 'em up to work since it's generally a series about...y'know, stealth and NOT beating people up, but here we are, and yeah, it looks pretty...SOLID! :D ...I'm not apologizing.
I've never expected a bootleg. I was thinking "Metal Gear Survive? Nah, too evident. Metal Gear NES that it's not the same as the MSX original and it's sequel Snake's Revenge? Maybe" even Metal Gear Solid The Twin Snakes, Portable Ops, Metal Gear Ghost Babel or the Acid subseries
Programmed by Silicon Knights.... why would I? Only issue I had with it is the voice acting in Grey Fox's cut scene near the end of the game. They should have just stuck with the OG voice acting for certain cut scenes.
Weirdly enough, the whole "gain experience by juggling enemies" style of level progression would go on to be used in almost the exact same way in the Namco x Capcom//Project X Zone series. The first game in that series came out in 2005, and from what I could find on the internet it looks like this game came out sometime around 2001. Sooo....looks like Matel Gear II's mechanics actually predate a much more successful [and legitimate!] series! Great video, as always! I always learn something watching your channel!
Oh I own both Project X zone titles, it's true you have to juggle to gain more exp though Project X Zone is a full blown tactical RPG. This is s beat'em up with some light rpg elements

Oh I'm aware of the sub zero game. I plan on covering it at some point but I do feel it's one of the better known bootlegs so I'd rather focus on the lesser known ones
@@st1ka only SGG bootleg I can name is Jung Pung 2, a port of a god awful SMS fighting game, that got a damn good sequel that stayed exclusive to SMS with an identical MD port. Zemina/Open Corp has some interesting stuff, and some genuinely great games like Koko Adventure (better known by it’s unreleased western name Buzz and Waldog), a fusion of SMW and Decap Attack

@@st1ka Close Quarters combat. It was developed together by The Boss and Big Boss. Big Boss being Snake Clone dad taught Snake every Cqc move. and the quote it self was from the The Boss at the beginning and end of mgs3

Always nice to see Metal Gear Touch exposure. I actually played it a couple of months ago on my iPad 2. I'm not even sure if it can play on newer models. Still holds up, esp for such an early iOS game. Whenever I think about older mobile games, Llamasoft always comes to mind. Gridrunner and Minotron esp. If you haven't played them give them a shot. The game has been mostly forgotten now, but it was a pretty big deal when it came out. I don't think anyone expected a Metal Gear game on ios at the time.

I'm not sure whether to simply refer to the "storytelling" or instead the insight on governments, war, technology, conspiracy, etc. but it's astonishing how ahead of the curve this game was. Easy to remember it as the game where you barely play as Snake and wild I need scissors 61 AI, but god damn the depth under it all

@@st1ka You really should. I know how you feel, but 2 will only continue to be praised as more time passes. 3 is a prequel and arguably my favorite. It's a great game and definently "makes up" for 2. I need to revisit 4, as I really enjoyed it. Most people complain about +1 hour cut scenes near the end. It did a great job of accounting and wrapping up the narrative of all the games, as well as Solid Snake, who kinda got lost in the shuffle after 1.
