    South Korea's first radio broadcast was 90 years ago. Radio remains an important communication channel even with the advent of television and the internet. Next, we will bring you a history of radio broadcasting in Korea.

    Radio waves were first transmitted from Kyungsung Broadcasting Station on February 16, 1927 during Japan's colonial occupation. The joyful news of liberation spread via radio across the nation. Full-fledged radio broadcasting began with Korea's exclusive call sign "HL" designated in 1947. Radio dramas enjoyed sensational popularity before televisions became common. Young people were enthusiastic fans of radio programs during the heyday of pop music.

    Radio is still a precious and irreplaceable friend for many, even in the digital era.

    Marking the 90th anniversary of the nation's first radio broadcast, KBS will present a special program and review the medium's history and future.
