So, Ashwathama mistakenly killed Pandavs five sons at night and bring their head to Duryodhan. but after realizing they are not Pandavs Krishna cornered him and Ashwathama used "BRAHMASHIR ASTRA" at Uttara's WOMB saying that Pandavs last heir must die. But after Krishna defeat Ashwathama, he(A) can't control the ASTRA to back down as he(A) doesn't have the knowledge of that. Thats why Parikshit was dead and revived with Ashwathama's gem.

Aswathama ko maar diya humne Aswathama ko maar diya thats a wrong dialogue. The correct one was : Aswathama hata iti gaj. Gaj means elephant, hata means dead so it means Aswathama has been died. This was how the Pandavas deceived Dronacharya.
