As someone who grew up listening to 1989 and red in middle school and is now an adult in a stable relationship, what really surprises me is her real lack of personal growth in a way that is evident in her music. I remember her playing Mean at the Grammys when I was little and thinking how empowering it was, but now in her 30s she’s still writing songs about how she’s a victim and everyone is mean to her. The best example recently being Thank You Aimee which is really just Mean pt. 2. At what point do we stop being a victim and start growing up?
Additionally, as someone well out of high school, her love-related songs just aren’t relatable and everything sounds very immature- with more swearing, big words, or references to drinking. Every guy is a “bad boy” (not really a thing in adult relationships) and she’s still having the same dilemmas and problems with men that she wrote about on Red, just repackaged into a new aesthetic each time. To be clear, I have no problem with her writing about men, but the problem is that these don’t sound like adult relationships, but rather the same overused themes she’s already written about.
I know the song Peter from her latest album is about a man she was together with, but I can't help but think that the song fits her too... Also agree with your take about Thank You Aimee, I wonder why she only dissed Kim if she's such a feminist, where's the Kanye diss track?? When it comes to celebrities their brand will speak volume than her art, you’ll see it with her, her brand and image and her image is to be this relatable young teenage girl in order to keep on selling and be relevant ( im also seeing this with Olivia) also stars like her who started in the industry as kids I don’t think they can really grow up grow up due to that. I think Thank you Aimee is a bit different from Mean, it highlights more about how her negative experiences formed her as a person and were beneficial to her career too, thus thanking 'Aimee'. It's also a bit unfair to say "grow up" in this context, the flood of hate back then was really awful and she was a victim. Can't blame anyone for not moving on from such a heavy life changing thing the 'right' way.

i don’t particularly agree with what she did either, but i’d assume the reason she sued him was less about him reposting public info and more so about said reposting posing an increased threat to her safety. the people that followed that account likely never would have gone looking for her travel records (or whatever you call them, idk man) if not for that account. with such an openly accessible account, information could fall into the wrong hands and potentially lead to countless people going after her, which is entirely possible considering both her massive fan base AND her multitude of haters. i definitely think there could’ve been a better way to address the issue, though.

She’s rerecording her old albums because BMG/Scooter Braun refuses to let her buy the rights to her original albums. She’s rerecording them so she has the sole rights to her own music and the money from people streaming her music won’t go to that piece of trash Scooter. It’s not just because she is trying to spite other artists, she’s just trying to own her own music and she’s trying to get it out to her fans as quickly as possible. I’m not some insane Swiftie, but it’s totally understandable why she is doing what she’s doing.
oh for sure, that’s why i didn’t really focus on the rerecordings so heavily! i sympathize with her situation, i was just bringing it up to show off how much work she’s been doing in such a short time frame (assuming that she hasn’t been sitting on these re-releases and is creating them relatively recently)

I can’t imagine a reason outside of pressure from fans that would drive her to rush the rerecordings of her old music as much as she has. I’m in no way a sympathizer of billionaires but she really is just damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t.

Music labels are notoriously predatory and exploitative. I’m not saying she is completely free of blame or has no involvement, but making her out to be some money hungry monster who preys on her fans’ devotion is missing the forest for the trees.

You voiced all of my exact concerns about Taylor swift. I used to love her music but I can’t listen to it without thinking about her silence. I honestly don’t think that saying “ceasefire” on her story would damage her public image badly. If anything at all it would improve her image and gain her some support and respect back. It’s so frustrating to watch her sit in privileged silence

Personally, I do not like Taylor Swift, but I used to have some friends who were Swifties and they would talk about her 24/7 and never listen to anything I had to say in criticism of her. Legit, the first time I said something (after months of just feeling left out day after day because she's pretty much all they would talk about), they left my lunch table and stopped talking to me, taking our entire friend group with them. Like, they took any ounce of criticism toward her personally. They should totally not because they of all people know how little I care about/like celebrities. My criticisms of her are as follows:
1. Obviously her CO2 emissions, which are actually higher when she is not currently touring (who needs a private jet for a distance less than my drive to high school was)
2. The lawsuit with that guy who was posting publicly available info (the flight logs are only posted 24 hours after a flight, so they don't actually present an immediate danger to her)
3. Being kind of fake -- She acts like a down-to-earth person who built herself from the ground up, but she was born rich, allowing her to move to Tennessee and begin her music career on her parents' money.
4. Being a fake ally -- She always acts like a feminist and activist, but she has such a large following that a single video from her could change the course of history. Seriously, once she posted a story about voting and got thousands of people to register. I wish she would use this influence in a more productive manner, like talking about Palestine or trans rights with all the bills in action right now.
In general, I don't like people who are so rich because they should ethically give a lot of that money to charity but instead decide to live a super fancy lifestyle that nobody needs. She wouldn't miss $1 million dollars a year, which is the average of Dolly Parton's annual donations. There is just so much more that she should and could be doing for people, but she actually doesn't care about the people she pretends to care about. What actually annoys me about her is the fact that everyone holds her on such a pedestal and has problems criticizing her. Then, when someone criticizes her, suddenly they don't want to see women succeed. Get a new argument because every single item on the above list can be applied to other people (even #2), and I do apply it to other people. This is why I don't like celebrities.
i consider myself a Swifty and sometimes I find it hard to listen to some people who feel so strongly about her negatively because it's one thing to criticize her it's another to just hate on everything she does and join in conversations and groups where people are talking about why they love Taylor swift almost as if there trying to make you feel stupid for enjoying her music like her lyrics are Cringy, and all her songs sound the same and to me it sounds tone deaf I've just had interactions where I'm enjoying her music and then they have to say something like her older stuff was better, her lyrics are cringe, and then they go into a whole thing and as soon as I'm like well that's unfair there like oh no be careful the Swifty will come after you and I'm just like you initiated a conversation and asked me what the hype is so I told you why I love her music and how a lot of people relate to that feeling and they'll be like oh the Swifty, here comes the Swifty can't say anything about taylor swift and I'm just like yes you can have your opinion on her and it can still be wrong or just not needed within the context like me listening to her while doing homework isn't for you to be like Taylor's overrated, I hate Taylor swift and then for you to unpack whatever that is like do that with someone who feels the same way, as much as there is a criticism of Swifty's making there whole personality about being a swifty the same can be said about people who hate Taylor swift.

The digital variants she releases sell 5 or 6 thousand and don't affect the chart position at all. Billie Eillish also released a bunch of digital variants and those also didnt help her. Those variants Taylor has are for the type of fans who want to hear what the rough draft version of a song sounded like when she was up at 2am writing it at her piano or with her guitar. Her album would have stayed at number 1 whether she released them or not.

Not a Swifty but I like some of her songs and her marketability is interesting to watch and she works HARD! She is not a great singer but her poetry is really good....not as good as other singer poets like Gord Downy. I think that is only because she puts out way too much music and not just her best work. im not a fan of Taylor Swift, i don't like the majority of her music and find it pretty mediocre and unrelatable (which is a me thing), but honestly, aside from being a fake feminist/activist what grinds my gears about the topic of Taylor Swift is her stans. they're a little too nuts about her, and it's to a degree that is so ridiculous that it shuts my brain off. i did not know fandom brainrot until i saw a 30 year old with a large following on tiktok obsess over the idea of Taylor Swift secretly being a lesbian this whole time and claiming that her coming out would change antigay attitudes everywhere.

I can't get behind wanting celebrities to speak on politics. There are lots of reasons people flood artist's twitters asking them to comment on this or that... and they're all bad?? Some stans are desperate to know their faves share all their same opinions but that's irrelevant to whether their music is good... it's standom that's the problem here, stop worshipping these people they probably all suck in real life. Just let them sing and dance around on stages that's what they're here to do. And what do they want? For the artist to say they support something they don't actually believe in just for monetary reasons? Other people might not even be fans, they just care about the issue so they target people with big platforms to get the word out, but it shouldn't matter to anyone what a singer-songwriter thinks about a political issue, we shouldn't be taking their opinions as gospel. Now of course if the artist has opinions they want to voice go for it (not that it accomplishes anything), they're just people on the world wide web like the rest of us, but no one is entitled to hearing anything from them that they don't give voluntarily.
some biases are okay. i have a bias against rich people of all genders. i dont care about the music. its probably good if so many people like it, but as a person she’s awful.
