He was literally just with Alphys, knew she was exhausted from exercising and probably knew she was upset about something. So he was being a good friend and asking you to check up on her. Why is that offputting? It's ALPHYS who first tells you about the creepy basement lab.
This place was a fucking disturbingly large tone shift. You're running around, hooking fish and weeb lizards up, and then, of all characters, PAPYRUS tells you to come here, an abandoned lab filled with horrible fusions,and abominations made by that same lizard. This is definitely one of the more atmospheric areas in the game, even if the atmosphere is fucking terrifying. Also, I would totally hug the fuck out of Endogeny.

I know this video was made 5 years ago and nobody will see this, but the true lab and amalgamates are SEVERELY underrated. They're so different from the rest of Undertale, theyre unsettling yet sort of cute. Their music is terrifying. Their origins are creepy and disturbing. They're actually more mysterious than even W.D Gaster if you think about it.
I remember one of the amalgamates look like a snowdrake and I have a theory for its origin. Cuz in pacifist/neutral route in undertale, we learnt that snowdrake has a mother that died or fallen down. I think that that snowdrake amalgamate is the mother since the act options of it don’t really have any different monster choices. Like just the laugh,pun and heckle. Its quite sad honestly. Not knowing how their dead mother is doing while she is suffering in pain as how alphys/undyne describes melting. But I think this theory is just obvious :/. Anyway, I think that’s just one of the amalgamates origin that we know. Maybe they are around the same mysteriousness as gaster?

This is one of my favorite songs on the soundtrack. It fits the True Lab perfectly. It's dark and foreboding, as if the song itself holds a dark secret.
Actually, the song itself is a demented version of Alphys' theme. If you listen to both you'll realize that, while the instruments couldn't be more different, the notes they play are actually pretty much the same. Thus, this song kind of is hiding a secret.
If I had a penny for every game I've played that's cheerful and cutesy for the first 90% and then suddenly ends with an abandoned lab full of eldritch horror that's associated with some variation of the phrase "(And) Here We Are", I'd have two pennies. Which isn't much, but it's weird that it happened twice.

The True Lab is definitely my favourite part in Undertale. An accident occurred and what was once a cutesy lab filled with joy was revealed as a mysterious, eerie basement. It's really underappreciated. The True Laboratory is a very memorable experience in Undertale and shows a lot about it's lore.

Theory: What if determination was actually a real chemical in the real world. What would it be though? It would be adrenaline! Why? Our heart produces Adrenaline in dangerous situations, it is produced when: we are scared, are in danger, are at the edge of death, determined to lush through the impossible. How? Determination in Undertale is used to keep you alive, right? Whenever you're in a dangerous situations, we can always depend on good old determination to save us. Like so is with humans in real life. Ex. A murderer is chasing us, our heart starts to produce adrenaline, this increases our stamina, speed, this happens when we are "determined" to live and escape death. Ex 2. You're badly injured.. Your heart produces adrenaline to numb the pain, make blood clots faster, heal faster, indirectly tell you that you are not GOING TO DIE. The reason why monsters can't have these chemicals is because a monster's body is their actual SOUL while us humans have our body as our Vessel with our SOUL residing within, so we have space for these chemicals. If monster have to much of this "adrenaline" their body's would work so fast that they'll eventually fall apart or "melt" since they can't keep this much matter within them. So this is why adrenaline maybe the Determination that alphys talks about
I really love that theory, great work mate, just a side note, adrenaline also shows up when you are undergoing a really thrilling experience, Ex. flying on a plane for the first time, to keep us aware, so that might explain why it is so praised in this game

The True Lab is definitely my favourite part in Undertale. An accident occurred and what was once a cutesy lab filled with joy was revealed as a mysterious, eerie basement. It's really underappreciated. The True Laboratory is a very memorable experience in Undertale and shows a lot about it's lore.

What if determination was actually a real chemical in the real world. What would it be though? It would be adrenaline! Why? Our heart produces Adrenaline in dangerous situations, it is produced when: we are scared, are in danger, are at the edge of death, determined to lush through the impossible.
How? Determination in Undertale is used to keep you alive, right? Whenever you're in a dangerous situations, we
can always depend on good old determination to save us. Like so is with humans in real life. Ex. A murderer is chasing us, our heart starts to produce adrenaline, this increases our stamina, speed, this happens when we are "determined" to live and escape death. Ex 2. You're badly injured.. Your heart produces adrenaline to numb the pain, make blood clots faster, heal faster, indirectly tell you that you are not GOING TO DIE. The reason why monsters can't have these chemicals is because a monster's body is their actual SOUL while us humans have our body as our Vessel with our SOUL residing within, so we have space for these chemicals. If monster have to much of this "adrenaline" their body's would work so fast that they'll eventually fall apart or "melt" since they can't keep this much matter within them. So this is why adrenaline maybe the Determination that alphys talks about
