Today's puzzle has been recommended to us by our Discord server and it's another stunner. It's called The Sailboat and it's Tom1i's tribute to Olympic Gold Medal winner Anne Marie Rindom. Give it a try at the following link:
    app.crackingth...
    Rules:
Normal sudoku rules apply. Each cage forms a 1-width long line. The sum of all centre cells along such a line is double the sum of the two cells at the ends of a line. Eg 1 2345 6 is a legal cage since 2*(1+6) = 2+3+4+5. Digits cannot repeat within a cage.
Sam Cappleman-Lynes has made an extremely clever 6x6x6 set of puzzles. We have released a solution video for this puzzle on Patreon and you can try to solve it yourself at these links (one to our software, one to penpa (which allows you to increase the size of the grids):

    FAQ:
    Q1: What is a Simarkism?
A1: A Simarkism is something that Simon and Mark typically or frequently say.
Q2: How do you do this so fast?
A2: I'm not made of flesh and blood, but of sand ...
Q3: Why don't you include 'XX' and 'YY'?
A3: Probably it's already on the list ('Scooby-Doo' for example), but not mentioned in this video. But if you think it's not, tell me what you'd like me to include and there's a good chance I'll add it!
Q4: You missed 'XX' at 'YY:ZZ'!
A4: That could very well be the case! Human speech is hard to understand for computers like me, especially British sometimes! Point out the ones that I missed and maybe I'll learn!
Q5: Could you turn these statistics into videos?
A5: I've been playing around with the idea and I'm open to input as to what people would like to see. Let me know if you are interested in this and/or have suggestions.

What a lovely puzzle this is! The mod 2/3 logic was really telegraphed loud and clear by the rule set itself and hugely powerful. Together with the "outies" logic the solve path became very much apparent. I had a few phone calls and my 43:11 clock time is worse than my actual solve by at least 4 minutes.
Simon had me belly-laugh a few times. The man is a saint with his self-deprecating humour. This bloke runs circles around most of humankind and a fair number of his nerdish audience on the channel. He must know this, yet remains devoid of any form of hauteur. • @ThomasJohnsen2
      @ThomasJohnsen2 3 роки тому

He didn't make an error. The divisible by 3 rule applies for all cages and thusly for the 7 cell cage. The union of the two grayed cells and the 7 cell cage makes a complete set of 9 and is therefore divisible by 3 (45). Subtract a number divisible by 3 from another number divisible by 3 and you get a number divisible by 3.

This puzzle had *a lot* of difficult-to-get useless deductions. Other than that, I loved it.

how many puzzles have you had to skip and do an easier one for the video?

How are you colouring in your Sudoku?

The bottom mode button, the one with all the colours in a small sudoku grid icon, changes the input mode to colours.

I don't think you understand the rules. A 7 cell cage with a 9 and 8 at the end would not have to add up to 68. It would have to add up to 51. 8+9 is 17, 17*2 is 34, 34+17 is 51. I don't know where your getting 68 from.

I don’t think you understand the concept of a mistake, if you watched the video you would clearly see he knows the rules very well. Have you got nothing better to do than comment every time Simon misspeaks or misses an obvious digit, Id love to watch over your shoulder while you do a sudoku.

    Honest question now.
I noticed you got interrupted and had to take a phone call.
Have you ever "bobbinsed" up a puzzle to then pause the video and go back to a point, blame it on a phonecall or trampoline wars just so we can see it finished?

He doesn't do stuff like that. Either he will work all the way back on video so you can see where he went wrong, or it won't get posted because he didn't find a solution before he ran out of time.

@@nagranoth_ he does seem pretty genuine. I was just wondering if there was a puzzle that he seriously messed up but he thought that the world needed to see it.

@@01evansa of course he'll make sure to post the solution if he feels you really should see it. He just won't be dishonest about it. He'll show the failure, then spend more time apologising than he needs to explain the correction.
