This is my favorite song of all time as DMX is my favorite rapper of all time. I listened to this song constantly to understand where DMX came from with his raw energy and aggression in all he does. This was great storytelling in a song to cherish.
You didn't know he had them levels, but he has several sales records that no one will ever touch. In the late 90's this dude was everything, he has like 5 albums in a row debut at #1.
For anyone curious: that opening line "to live is to suffer..." is a quote from 19th century German philosopher Friederich Nietzche. I always thought it was cool DMX used that line.
@Shot Uce Cool story. He's referred to himself as "D" within his lyrics, so maybe you should take your quest up with him directly? I'm guessing that there's not a single person who was confused by my post anyway, but thanks for your valuable contribution.👍
@Shot Uce Whatever man, I'm not going to argue with some UA-cam troll about what we should and shouldn't call a rapper. I'm sure Earl doesn't give a shit.
Decent track, here... I will say this one thing, front to back - DMX's album "It's Dark and Hell is Hot" is *_still_* the most gangster-ass album I've ever heard in my life! *_TRUST !!_*
The cool concept about this song is that everybody has been where this song has been. And you could actually be in that position now where you are slipping and you're falling and you can't get up. This song let you know that you can't give up, you got to get up and you have to get back on your feet so you can tear it up. And this song to me is one of the greatest songs of DMX has ever done. Everybody has been through this stage in their lives and if they haven't there about to go through the stage. And if he can get up then all of us can. And if you're reading this and this touches your soul, this message is for you. You may be slipping , you may be falling but you can get up.
It’s mostly about him keep relapsing on crack. Like he said “ I wanna make records but I’m fucking it up” I always woundered how well he would of did if he stayed on track
The censored version doesn't bother me at all, salute to you for admitting you didn't know Darkman X had levels!! Not always hype and amped up. Keep the positive vibes coming 👊🏾
Man, this song gives me goosebumps all over - every time!! And this was one of my very first Hip-Hop albums that I bought back in the 90s. DMX for Hip-Hop Hall of Fame!!
I’m so glad that you got the point to this song. Right off the get go with they first line. To live is to suffer but to survive is to define meaning into suffering. Slippin is my all time favorite DMX song. His vulnerability, word play and story telling made him unique and legend. FYI Ruff Ryder’s Anthem was his least favorite song. He did cause he lost bet and wrote it in 15 min. As he said it was elementary for him. His word play and his rap skills are a lot deeper than that.
Clean version was all that was officially released, even on the explicit cd. Dj Shok (RuffRyders) produced it, and sampled Moonstreams, by Grover Washington Jr. Owners to rights of Moonstreams only approved use if it was a clean song. Later on some dirty versions were leaked. Some without the female vocals. There is one version that has all the words including, damn look how the rock got em. And one that has rock blanked out.
I get chills every time I hear this song, even after literally 1,000+ times. ❤️ DMX is King with the beautiful heartfelt religious songs. I love his catalogue. As much as I love his harder stuff. THIS & his prayers, Damien songs...they are ones that will touch your soul. 🔥❤️ Edit: That’s Ruff Ryders Anthem, many of his best songs aren’t necessarily “popular” outside of long time fans. Not that his bangers aren’t great too. ✌️
Defending the best beeping idea DMX had, sometimes it’s that smooth the cancellation of the swearing that I thought it was meant to be this way, then I hear the actual explicit version and realise it, done beautifully in all his songs
In my early recovery from my drug addiction this song helped me....literally helped me not relapse. Form the interviews I've seen with DMX he says this song is about his crack addition. When u are in active addiction u have mental breakdowns those 2 things always go together. Thats why u have to take care of your mental health in order to stay clean& sober. DMX is a poet
So Doc here.... that was 98.... so 23 for me. This is my apology for not really remembering the years I was trying to convey. There have been a couple since 23 &45... 2020... no clue what's up except when talking with battles from downrange.
Classic. Funny enough the song is censored on the album as well, that was the only way the artist they sampled would clear the song. They would only clear it if it had no curses on it.
He promised his grandma he wouldnt cuss in this song, there was never a official version, it was leaked but its never been on a album, on flesh of my flesh blood of my blood this song is still censored
is crazy bro because all the DMX's music probably will touch him while fucking more than any other artists I've ever heard all he talks about is realshit real situations should that everybody goes through.... He's my favorite East coast rapper is not even close hands down!!! And I will compare his catalog to any east coast rappers catalog 💯🔥🔥🔥🔥
So i was working this job and my boss was this real goofy guy. Im sitting there doing my work listening to this and he walks up and randomly says to me. " wow this guy really needs to learn how to tie his shoes" funny stuff had to be there
No moe getting high no moe drinking 40 looking tight and right got back with shorty every thing aight. the X is man and was the beginning till the end""" Real Man X !!!
This is my favorite song of all time as DMX is my favorite rapper of all time. I listened to this song constantly to understand where DMX came from with his raw energy and aggression in all he does. This was great storytelling in a song to cherish.
Rip🖤
Still cant believe X is gone, Rest in power
Same here, cant believe it yet :(

FINALLY SOMEONE SHOWING DMX LOVE !!!!!! He’s has sooooo many bangers !!!!!! And no ones shows him love !!!!
You didn't know he had them levels, but he has several sales records that no one will ever touch. In the late 90's this dude was everything, he has like 5 albums in a row debut at #1.
One of my Favorite DMX songs EVER!!!!
DMX always will be my favorite music artist. He a Legend.
R.I.P DMX! He lived and died tragically but his music will be remembered forever! A true hip hop Legend!
Nobody had expected that this will hurt 8 months later so much more 😭 RIP DMX the GREAT
For anyone curious: that opening line "to live is to suffer..." is a quote from 19th century German philosopher Friederich Nietzche. I always thought it was cool DMX used that line.
DMX is in my top 10. Never get tired of listening to his music.
Top 3 nigga
Liked at the start for once, just coz it's D.
@Shot Uce Cool story. He's referred to himself as "D" within his lyrics, so maybe you should take your quest up with him directly? I'm guessing that there's not a single person who was confused by my post anyway, but thanks for your valuable contribution.👍

DMX a legend. Any if his Damien tracks would be a good reaction
All 3 back to back to back.
Doc the only way they could clear the sample was to make the edited version the album version.
RIP DMX. ❤️🌆

Most underrated artist. 💯 not just rapper

Love me some DMX. This was one of my jams back in the day for sure.
One of my favorite rappers of all time, very few are as real and raw as X. This dropped around 1998 or so by the way.
There's no way you ain't hear this before...this is a all time greatest song
That's exactly what I was thinking
This song had some serious gems in it
Dmx is another great icon from when rap was real talk

DMX is the hardest ❌🔥

DMX - How's it going down
GZA - 4th Chamber
2Pac - Got My Mind Made Up
He got a lot more music like this also...some weren't mainstream though... had to listen to his album to hear it
This is one of my all time favorite songs
DMX is the goat of realness
This song was my go to crutch for many difficult points in my life. Such a good one.
Now you talking. DMX. yes
RIP X 💯💯😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
My man, you have to check out DMX “Damian”
Facts there's 3 of them the story is so good
Defending the best beeping idea DMX had, sometimes it’s that smooth the cancellation of the swearing that I thought it was meant to be this way, then I hear the actual explicit version and realise it, done beautifully in all his songs

"Signs of stress aint get my hair cut or give a fxcc how i dressed, possessed..."
DMX-RIGHT/WRONG, or "Ready To meet him".

You need to react to Bizzy Bone - Nobody Can Stop Me. It's one of the most real songs you will ever Hill
My favourite DmX song
Keep going with DMX. Some real gritty shit
Love this song. The edited version (album edited version) is better than the uncensored version, in my opinion.
DmxGangGangGang
His first 3 albums are amazing. Forth wasn’t bad either. He doesn’t get enough credit
For me, him and 2pac were the best storytellers. So imo, they are the goats. 🤷♂️
You can call me Doc, Doc. Me at 19 in 1994. Quiet Storm, MobbDeep. Same hard azz era... Prodigy... Firestarter... same dimension.
So Doc here.... that was 98.... so 23 for me. This is my apology for not really remembering the years I was trying to convey. There have been a couple since 23 &45... 2020... no clue what's up except when talking with battles from downrange.
RIP X my boi 😞🙏🏼🙏🏼

i was gonna say that lol i had the cd and yeah its edited on the explicit, but there IS an explicit version ua-cam.com/video/mIUtff2CDi8/v-deo.html
Oh now I get it! I was pissed when every song was uncensored on the album but this one .
He did that ish 💯🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽💔
He promised his grandma he wouldnt cuss in this song, there was never a official version, it was leaked but its never been on a album, on flesh of my flesh blood of my blood this song is still censored
RIP to a legend❤️

You can say what you want, but he's a living legend.
