Thanks for the update. Its good to get some longer term evidence of how this Flex seal holds up. Im still working on my basement and have done as much as possible outside to pitch the water away from the house but during heavy rainfalls I still have very minor seepage in the basement in a few areas. I cant dig down enough outside to address the problem so Im doing what I can in the basement. I will say however that flex seal really solves any interior mold and mildew issues in otherwise damp basements but the critics like to point out that it has its limits as far as actual water dripping/leaking/puddling through your cinder block walls. My theory is that a 100+ year old home has had rain water against its exterior basement walls since day one and it was very likely worse back in the first days/decades because gutters and water direction control were not even considered among homeowners so why now is sealing up the inside of the basement is that going to accelerate the decay of basement walls as many claim? I feel that anything you can do to help is just a net positive toward a dry basement And just because water is permeating your cinderblocks to their internal parts is no different than has always been the case since day one 100+ years ago.
Thank you so much! We just finished scrubbing downt the basement walls and are letting them dry. We are going to started flex sealing tomorrow. I have been wondering if you were going to make a "see it now" video. Really appreciate it. It puts my mind at ease. We have zero water issues in our basement so we are only using this product to help keep a cleaner space. Looking forward to being able to wipe down the walls when needed.
How did it go? Sounds like I have the same challenge as you-no water leaking into the basement but efflorescence that continues growing and pushing off the paint the previous owner coated the walls with.
@@JillofAllTrades2it worked well. Did exactly what I wanted. Now if there is any condensation created from the temperature difference of air coming from the crack between the walls and floor, the moisture appears on the flex seal and can be wiped of easily. We have a dehumidifier we use as well. So I can feel the walls at the bottom and decide if it is time to turn it on again. The space is clean now too
If you were too, put an actual wall up with studs and sheet rock, you think it necessary to put up that pink barrier or do you think the flex seal does the same job as let’s say a plastic or the foam barrier?
AWESOME!!! I've been dreading dealing with the efflorescence my the brick walls in my basement. I have gutters and I'll be replacing the walkway next to the house that has lots of holes and cracks so it's more impermeable and sloped away from the house rather than ponding as it does now. I'm thinking of also digging down a few feet and treating the exterior wall by either applying EPDM and/or a product such as Flex Seal. Your videos help bring some peace of mind that there is a solution. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Cool, dude. May need to do something like this in my basement. I have "CleanSpace" in one room in my cellar that weeps into interior drain tile. Was thinking I might do a flex seal for the other dry spots just as an added feeling of security.
There's folks out in the interwebs that say drylocking blocks will cause mositure to say in the blocks and cause issues. If I finish an above ground basement that currently doesn't have any water issues, do I need to use drylock? Need to put anything between the block and finished wall?
No, these issues are caused by ground water saturating the earth all along the wall. You can do a quick test to see if your concrete is water logged. Tape a piece of plastic to the wall flat and see if it collects humidity. If you have any cracks, mark them.
Hello! We have two corners in our basement that are consistently moist (on the bottom). We fixed our gutters and grading, even put some plastic down to stop water from going directly down the house. I think it's better (it's been about two months) but the problem is still mildly there. We don't have the means to dig up around our foundation. Could this be done as more as a spot treatment? Do you think that could be effective?
