Woah. This game is more complex than I had imagined. Some reviews from other channels are not doing it justice. Glad I picked up a pack for my fam. Thanks for the video.
Awesome video! Exactly the sort of thing my girlfriend wanted to see before we played. I've played Magic for over 20 years (including Type 4), so most of Epic's rules were pretty straightforward, but this is awesome for someone who isn't as familiar with how these games work. PS: Loving the game so far, you guys really delivered, and I can't wait to to see what comes next! One of the best kickstarters I've backed.
Wow. That was a 100mph game! I'll have to watch it again, only this time, I'll be pausing it a lot. Epic plays like to opponents meeting in the center of a ring and throwing haymaker after haymaker.
Great game guys, and great tutorial - really helped explain the mechanics. Love the fact you can play any card, no mana screw or flooding, just great gameplay every turn. Bring on an Epic expansion!
Watched this after attempting to play the game once with my girlfriend. One thing the rules did not make super clear was the multiple attacks in one turn. I was interpreting it as only one attack phase. Another thing that might be helpful for new players is a "turn" token, you pass back and forth and gold tokens that you flip over after you spend your gold and reset as turns change. We got a little confused as we were reading cards and figuring out what they did, then you forget who's turn or what gold had been spent.
I just ordered this game who loved magic but hated the economics. Looking very forward to it. Great videos! (Also love hero realms - also ordered star realms frontiers) Greetz!
This game seems quite a bit more complex than star realms. Still having a hard time getting my head around this game. Would like to see some more gameplays.
+JeffreyQProductions I bought this after enjoying Star realms but not the sci-fi setting, hoped this would be similar but right out of the box its far more complex and the rules in the box are way way too roughly written to really understand.
3:12 Shouldn't the Rampaging Wurm have done 15 damage from the +1/+1 from Jungle Queen or does her ability only affect champions that were already in play?
11:47 Zombie Apocalypse - Break all champions, then each player puts a zombie token into play for each champion in their discard pile - Does this only apply to the champions that were already in play or all champions that were previously in players' discards piles as well?
+Vito Gesualdi Thanks again. The graphics made me think it was one for one but noticed when CJ played it a second time Rob counted through his discard. I think I finally got the game down pact.
Love Star Realms. Got Epic thru Kickstarter. Artwork is fantastic but game play is much more complex than Star Realms. Watched 3 different walk through videos and still have a hard time figuring out the order of events and that an opponent responds even if it not their turn. Written rules are not all that clear. Like to see a simpler set of game play rules developed that use the same cards. Epic rules for Jr.? - LOL
+YAKAHOLIC It can definitely be a little overwhelming at first to anyone not familiar with Magic and the like, but it's fun as hell. Any specific questions I can help with?
+xKarbx9999 Having watched many videos and played a few hands - it is making more sense. Q. I know you can expend a prepared champion as a cost to gain the power. You also expend a prepared champion when he is attacking. Can you do both actions at the same time? Gain the benefit of the expend power simultaneously while attacking? TIA
No, you cannot do both at the same time. If you expend to attack, you are forfeiting the ability to expend to pay the cost for an expend power, and vice versa. However, triggered abilities work differently. For example, if there were a card that said "When this card is expended --> Do something," attacking would cause that to trigger, as well as any other expend method. But back to your original question -- expending for powers and expending for attacks are two separate actions.
NIce video. At 9:05 after blockers are declared, wouldn't it be CJ's turn to play stuff first as the attacking player? It seems as if that would have been a good time to play Apocalypse so Rob couldn't use his Hunting Raptors. Actually, the whole video through the defender seems to play stuff first after attackers and blockers declared. Thought it was the other way around? :)
+Alexander Cimadon After declaring attackers, the attacking player does have a window for using powers & events, however CJ typically passed on this to try and respond to any tricks Rob might have. The attack at 9:05 was a risky attempt to try and sneak 2 damage through by bluffing some sort of pump or damage event, though Rob decided not to take the bait and blocked with the raptors.
+White Wizard Games It makes sense he didn't do anything after he declared attackers, but after rob declared his blocker, wouldn't CJ have first turn to play stuff? Therefore playing Apocalypse then, would stop Rob from tapping the Raptors to do damage? I saw it as CJ knew he was gonna play Apocalypse this turn, so he just tried to sneak in 2 damage, so when Rob blocked he should have just played Apocalypse right after declared blockers. I just found it peculiar.
So when you play the zombie apocalypse card here, none of you seem to turn all champions in your discard pile in to zombie but rather just the ones on the table? Thought the card said you would turn all champions in the discard pile?
I'm glad this is finally up hope you do more, at least one for each of your variants. I taught my first multiplayer (3 person) game the other day and was unclear on the rules a couple of times. Another friend really gets the game and keeps beating me, but that's OK because I murder him in Star Realms.
Hi, me again :) With another question regarding the Hydra team multiplayer mode: How do you proceed for drawing cards, etc... If we play let's say 3 vs 3 how do players take turns ? Is it A1 (team A player 1) then B1, A2, B2, A3, B3 ? Or do all the team A players draw and play alltogether and then team B ? And can you show what's in your hand to your teamates ?
Very good video for players to get into the game, so thanks for it. Only one sad part is that you didnt show up attack with more monsters (or defending with more monsters) - group. That would be just perfect then. But its sum game up, so thanks! Im really loking forward for my 3 copies of game tommorow!
how come rampaging wurm comes into play, when hes defending? from what i understand you can only summon monster with ambush ability if its not your turn? Please correct me if im wrong
+Paul David Diño You got it right in the usual case, but in this case CJ has Jungle Queen out on the board. Her text reads: "You may play wild champions as if they had Ambush". So, since the Rampaging Wurm is from the Wild faction, it can be played.
The no responding mechanic is a little confusing. Instead of saying when someone does something shouldn't it be when a player plays an event card it can not be canceled or something to that effect? Or you can not cancel out another card but you can respond?
+Joshua Gardner In some card games, you can respond to what an opponent does with a card, and have your card effect resolve before theirs. As an example, imagine if your opponent had a 2/2 champion, then played a +3/+3 "buff" event (which would make it a 5/5 champion). In some games, you would be allowed to respond to the buff, for instance using a "deal 3 damage" effect to break the 2/2 champion before it gets bigger. However, in Epic, card effects immediately resolve, so once the buff is played the creature immediately becomes a 5/5. Once that resolves, it is indeed the other player's turn to "respond." Maybe a more accurate description would be that you cannot "interrupt" cards your opponent's play, and must let them fulfill all the card's effects before you play a card in response.
+White Wizard Games so how does that work when a champion attacks and you play an event card that deals enough damage to break the champion before it deals damage?
+Joshua Gardner Damage is a separate step that only takes place after all players have passed on playing effects. So, when a creature attacks, you will get a chance to break it before the damage step.
I'm sorry, I don't mean to be so negative, I wasn't able to make it through the entirety of this video. I know you guys are doing your best to explain the game, but I was having such a hard time tracking the phases, and it felt like I was receiving contradictory information. Especially when one of you explains that there are no card interrupts, and then proceed to ask what your opponent wants to do in response to your action, before your turn ends. Perhaps a list of phases on the side of the video tracking the process, or an overview of the game before the walkthrough will help. I'm familiar with Magic, and I'm a big fan of deck building games like your previous game Star Realms which I continuously go back to as it's so easy to teach, and has such excellent depth of mechanics. I was a Kickstarter backer of this project, and while I haven't cracked this game open yet, I did get it the other day. I look forward to figuring out this one, I hope that your manual is just as intuitive as the Star Realms one was. As for this video, you can do better. Again, I apologize for my negativity, I just know there are better ways of explaining a game like this.
+sglasgow99 We don't recommend you use this video as a primary resource for learning the game rules. This video is more to show the game flow for people who have already read through the rulebook. Regarding "interrupts" - you simply cannot perform an action in response to a card being played by an opponent. You must wait for your opponent to fulfill all the conditions and effects of their card, then you will have an opportunity to respond (if you choose).
As I understand, when you attack with a champion, you always target opponent life ? There is no way to directly target another champion ? The only way to target a champion is to use an effect or to wait for your opponent to block with it ?
Thx for the video, lot of work put into this it seems. The voice of C.J is difficult to understand, becomes a murmur sometimes. Need to pause this vid a lot to see what's going on. This game has a huge 'wall' to actually start playing it; always feels like I'm doing something wrong.
Thanks White Wizards for the video. I just have a question, not related to the video specifically, but about "Teleport" (allows me to remove my champion and returns it either expended or prepared with blitz). I know cards resolve and there are no responses in Epic. So I just want to know when will it be appropriate to use Teleport?Lets say, hypothetically, my opponent has "Searing Blast" (deals 7 damage to champion) which is enough to break my champion. Is it not appropriate to activate Teleport to try to save my champion before damage resolves? I'm under the impression that Searing Blast would resolve first.
+Young Money You cannot respond to an opponent's card, only the three specific windows (attacking before blockers, attacking after blockers, when they try to end their turn). Teleport is very flexible -- you can remove your opponent's attacker and then return it expended (essentially negating the attack), you can remove your own expended champion that already attacked or used its expend power so that it can expend again, or you can even "blink" one of your champions with a Tribute or Loyalty ability so that it will trigger again.
how can he play rampaging worm on your turn (2:48) ? it doesn't have ambush. i thought you could only play events/powers on the enemy turn to respond wtf?
Question: at 13:29, I'm not sure why you were able to activate the Blue Dragon's ability. It doesn't have Blitz, just came out, and I'm pretty sure there are no other Sage cards on the table for it's ally ability to activate.
+Ivan Conrad It activated from the Tribute keyword, which is an ability that goes into effect when you first play the card. The ally ability is separate to be used on subsequent plays.
I have a question about blocking. Had Rob played an event to break the rampaging wurm when he attacked with the Triceratops, could CJ have blocked with his Jungle Queen? Or do you only get one opportunity to declare blockers?
I love this game. You guys need to make a simpler and slower how to play video for people that are having a harder time grasping the rules. Even the reviewer over at the dice tower is struggling to understand it.
Hi ! Just received my shipment today and played a bit of a first game during lunch break. We played a 5 players free for all game and I've got some questions: In free-for-all, can any player interfere with any combat by using powers or abilities ? What's the strategic advantage of banish vs broken (or the other way around) ? By that I mean that I don't see what happens if my deck is empty. Do I then shuffle the discard back ? Or do am I dead ? Champions can be played out of you own turn only if they have Ambush, am I right ? Can a player go above 30 health, using a power/tribute/etc... Is it possible to recycle freely before the end of your turn or do you need a card to do so ? An also a "maintenance" question: I've got 2 sets + 2 extra bonus cards set. We played with both shuffled together as we were 5 players. Do I have to "reassemble" each set at the end of a session or can I play a 2 players game by just dealing 30c ards decks out of the 240+ I've got now in a single pack ? :) Thanks ! :)
Banish sends the card to the bottom of the deck not the discard pile, if you deck out (empty your deck)you actually win. Hence banishing cards of your opponents deck keeps them from decking out. you are correct about Ambush. There is NO max life. those are the ones I can answer for you buddy.
+Brandon Meadows Hi Brandon. Thanks for the answers. So you say that if you deck out, you win ? Did I miss that in the rules ? :D (after checking: damn I did miss that in the rules...) OK so that makes sense now.
I literally watched this video to answer one question and it wasn't addressed. How does the "group attacking" rule work? Is there a reason that he tediously took the time to attack with each individual zombie, instead of just doing one group attack? When I'm assigning multiple blockers to a group of multiple attackers, how does assigning damage work? The rule book is extremely vague and I can't find clarification anywhere, somebody please help.
+David Lindsay simply the rule is (I think), that a player assigns as many monsters he wants to attack with. Then the defender chooses what he will defend with. The reason why he did not do one group attack is simply because one blocker can stop a whole multiple group (1 block v 9 attackers, block stops WHOLE attack). Therefore he strategically did it in separate groups in order to eliminate this factor.
So I have never played MTG or Star Realms. But I LOVE deck-building games! But I can't really pinpoint to see if Epic is deck-building or not. So I'm contemplating to get this game.
+Jaehwa Jeong It's not deck-building. You start play with a deck already built, just like you do in Magic. (Although pre-building the deck is considerably easier in this game.)
Quick Question. Is this a standard deck? Mine only contains 4 Zombie Tokens. Where did all the Zombies in the Apocalype come from? Do you need multiple packs?
+Martin McNelis You can use anything to represent a Zombie token. If you want more physical tokens you need more boxes of Epic, but you can always just print out additional proxies
Quick question....on the very first turn , how did CJ play the 2 additional (1) gold costed coins to get Loyalty? I thought you got 1 gold and unlimited zero point cards? We've been playing that Loyalty only works when there are 2 additional faction cards on the table. Thanks
To get Loyalty, you don't have to play the cards from the same faction, you have to reveal them from your hand. CJ played his Strafing Dragon, revealed Rampaging Wurm and Jungle Queen from his hand, then put the revealed cards back into his hand. The textbox at 1:23 explaines this.
Omg this looks awesome. I wish I'd seen this before the Realms games. Not that I don't like Realms but deckbuilding games can be frustrating in a lot of ways and can feel very slow. This is way more up my alley. I love the constantly changing game board, just like Mtg, you never know what could happen on the next turn.
So this game is awesome, but no one is talking about it. You really should send some copies out to reviewers. I would have expected this to be everywhere but I was tiring to remember who made this 120 card ccg lite gem and I almost gave up. Glad I didn't its great. Get it out to the reviewers so they can spread the love!
Saying "there's nothing you can do once the opponent plays a card" or "there's no responding in this game" is SOOOOOOOOOOO inacuraate. I understand the rules, but can't agree with your statements. Example, CJ attacks with a Strafing Dragon and you DO hit him with a Lightening Storm. To me, it is RESPONDING, it is "you can do something about it". Am I wrong?
+wyrwis Yes. They're saying there is no "stack" in the game, where spells and abilities all go on top of each other and get resolved in order. What you're describing is simple a player responding to a decision the other player has made that moves the game into another phase where they have the ability to play effects as with all the others.
When he says "respond" he is talking about letting the card resolve. In MtG you are able to respond to cards an opponent plays with your own cards, ie using a counterspell to make it so the card doesnt resolve. In this game there are no counterspells, everything resolves. If a champion has an etb effect that effect will trigger every time 100% of the time, there is no playing a lightning bolt in response to kill the champion to prevent the etb effect from triggering......at least, that is how i understood it to be from the video
Loved Star Realms, can't help but regret buying Epic. You guys really seem to have assumed that everyone who buys this game has played Magic the Gathering. This video only lost me even more.
I hope in future videos that whoever your opponent is will be easier to understand. I could only make out half of what CJ said. The rest was mumbly and unintelligible. A little frustrating to listen to.
This seems like a condensed version of MTG. Economics removed. Blue counter magic removed and the agressive sales removed. All three aspects which were sometimes a turn off in MTG. However a level of strategy and game play may also go missing. Still I would give it a shot.
This is so damn confusing. Everyone is constantly playing all kinds of shit on each other's turns and then there's multiple steps before you can end it or not. I really don't get it. Like ' ah at the end of your turn I'm gonna play this and this.. What is that?? `
If you feel the video is going a bit too fast for you to grasp the rules, try watching at .75% speed!

This gameplay walkthough is a very good representation of what a game of Epic would look and feel like, Epic! Good job, guys.
I have watched this video three times and I’m still clueless as to how to play. Thanks.
You should watch this one first: ua-cam.com/video/zgP7BNfuiFo/v-deo.html
This game looks sick. It's like Vintage MTG but really creature based instead of having to navigate around a sea of countermagic.
Glad I found this! Just got my deck today and the Battle Phase instructions were pretty difficult to follow, for me. I think I understand it, now.
What an epic game and video playthrough. Well done. Will buy for sure ASAP
Wow. That was a 100mph game! I'll have to watch it again, only this time, I'll be pausing it a lot. Epic plays like to opponents meeting in the center of a ring and throwing haymaker after haymaker.
Amazing! All cards playable in a pretty EPIC game. I loved it!

We got a little confused as we were reading cards and figuring out what they did, then you forget who's turn or what gold had been spent.
+Bob Frey We definitely recommend using some marker to keep track of gold. In the future, we will have a Coin template you can print from our website.
Great play through that boy there’s a lot to remember. I’m sure I’ll get used to it after multiple plays
I just ordered this game who loved magic but hated the economics. Looking very forward to it. Great videos! (Also love hero realms - also ordered star realms frontiers) Greetz!
Thanks for the video definitely cleared somethings up, I think at 7:35 CJ forgot to recycle after playing Plague though.
This game seems quite a bit more complex than star realms. Still having a hard time getting my head around this game. Would like to see some more gameplays.
+JeffreyQProductions We have more tutorial videos coming soon. Keep checking back!
+White Wizard Games Is there plans to make this a pc game as well like you did with Star Realms?
+JeffreyQProductions From what I hear, it's in the works.
+White Wizard Games Will you be doing one to explain Gods & Demi gods?
+JeffreyQProductions I bought this after enjoying Star realms but not the sci-fi setting, hoped this would be similar but right out of the box its far more complex and the rules in the box are way way too roughly written to really understand.
I would love to see this in a sci-fi setting! fantasy is overcrowded. A version of this in the Star Realms universe would be phenomenal!
3:12 Shouldn't the Rampaging Wurm have done 15 damage from the +1/+1 from Jungle Queen or does her ability only affect champions that were already in play?
+ender424 You are correct. We will add an annotation to correct this mistake. Luckily it did not end up impacting the game state.
+Vito Gesualdi Cool. I know the result was the same but I just purchased the game today so literally just learning it and wanted to make sure. Thanks!
11:47 Zombie Apocalypse - Break all champions, then each player puts a zombie token into play for each champion in their discard pile - Does this only apply to the champions that were already in play or all champions that were previously in players' discards piles as well?
+ender424 It applies to all champions in discard piles. The most literal reading of a card is usually the correct one.
It seems as if that would have been a good time to play Apocalypse so Rob couldn't use his Hunting Raptors. question- at 11 minute CJ played Bellowing Minotaur - why his tribute ability didn't triggered? As i understand it he should be 9/7
I am very excited, when we will receive the kickstarter invitation for the digital alpha :) Till then, thanks for the good work and see you in game
@ 4:09 how was final task paid for if Rob had zero gold?
Isn't it wrong to play recall to get "in play" cards back to the hand? They're greyed out and have to be on the discard pile I think...
As I understand, when you attack with a champion, you always target opponent life ? There is no way to directly target another champion ? The only way to target a champion is to use an effect or to wait for your opponent to block with it ?
I don't understand why CJ couldn't interrupt lighting storm. but playing the other events, they could interrupt.
are the kickstarter exclusives worth it?

how can he play rampaging worm on your turn (2:48) ? it doesn't have ambush. i thought you could only play events/powers on the enemy turn to respond wtf?
The Rampagin Wurm gets ambush from the Jungle Queen because its a wild champion.
@@nickk.6735 aaaaaaaah!! Alright cristal clear
Hot girls and broken Monsters , nice game x)
Will this be an app such as Star Realms?
Question: at 13:29, I'm not sure why you were able to activate the Blue Dragon's ability. It doesn't have Blitz, just came out, and I'm pretty sure there are no other Sage cards on the table for it's ally ability to activate.
+Ivan Conrad It activated from the Tribute keyword, which is an ability that goes into effect when you first play the card. The ally ability is separate to be used on subsequent plays.
+QWIFPT Oh, oops, completely missed that. Thank you for the info.
This board game is Awesome!! I've played it a lot and it's still cool!
I have a question about blocking. Had Rob played an event to break the rampaging wurm when he attacked with the Triceratops, could CJ have blocked with his Jungle Queen? Or do you only get one opportunity to declare blockers?
+Bryan Knecht Unfortunately for CJ, no. Once you declare your blockers, you may not declare any additional blockers for that combat step.
I love this game. You guys need to make a simpler and slower how to play video for people that are having a harder time grasping the rules. Even the reviewer over at the dice tower is struggling to understand it.
Hi !
Just received my shipment today and played a bit of a first game during lunch break. We played a 5 players free for all game and I've got some questions:
In free-for-all, can any player interfere with any combat by using powers or abilities ?
Thanks !
:D (after checking: damn I did miss that in the rules...)
OK so that makes sense now.
Florent Caffarel No problem at all. Im glad I could help. :D
Hi +White Wizard Games!
What kind of dice you use for account the life points?
Thanks!
at least in this video they used a d10 and a d6
Ah, and in the video, I don't quite understand the other effect of Feint (not the drawing). :)
At 3:13 The Rampaging Worm should have dealt 15 Damage to Triceratops due to the continuous effect of Jungle Queen (+1/+1 to other Wild Champions)
+RuBisCO Very good catch! Luckily it didn't impact the game state.
Are they using promos or are all the cards here in the core box?
They are using a basic copy of Epic.
I love this!!!!
So this game is awesome, but no one is talking about it. You really should send some copies out to reviewers. I would have expected this to be everywhere but I was tiring to remember who made this 120 card ccg lite gem and I almost gave up. Glad I didn't its great. Get it out to the reviewers so they can spread the love!
this game looks so good
really want to like this game but having trouble understanding all of it. this video is way to fast for me.
thanks for this, very helpful and showing that we played your game wrong the whole day (:
I'm kind of confused. I didn't think you were allowed to play champions during your opponents turn after they declare an attack.
Nevermind, the champions in question had Ambush.
Why can you play lightning storm when you have no gold to use?
Thanks for the video but CJ seems to be talking with marbles in his mouth. That or he's an adult on Peanuts.
pro tip : watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Johnathan Cairo Yea, I have been watching on Flixzone for since november myself :)
Rob is like Conan O'Brien and Burnie Burns somehow combined into one person.
Hard to wrap your head about what you may do when...
and CJ is hard to hear. sounds like someone on the other end of a drive through speaker asking for your order.
Loved Star Realms, can't help but regret buying Epic. You guys really seem to have assumed that everyone who buys this game has played Magic the Gathering. This video only lost me even more.
i haven't played magic before but when the game clicks its amazing the amount of possibilities you can do.
well good😟
I hope in future videos that whoever your opponent is will be easier to understand.
Disappointing choice or two in art direction, but a fun game
+tom nook Thanks for the feedback, Tom. We've heard similar feedback from other players and will take it into account in future sets.
I love the cards with the wolf art, they look great!
this is crazy! the artwork and design is one of the best things about this game!
this makes No sense at all.....
