    Mimi is wonderful. I am glad she did this interview and sharing so much about her experience. Love the film. Love Nurse Pilbow.

    I always knew that some of the people in the movie were actual employees of the hospital and she is so realistic in this film that I just assumed she was one of them. The 70s was THE time for naturalistic acting and realism in film, it was practically a special effect back then!

    What a charming lady. She was the sexy nurse of the movie, and still is. It’s a fantastic movie. The only actor I’ll mention is Scatman Coruthers. He is hilarious no matter what he says or whatever expression is on his face. When he was trying to usher out the patients and says, “ get out of here you slim mf” I cracked up. Excellent interview

    • @alangb2086

      Yes, Scatman was brilliant, its only when you have the subtitles on you get to hear all the lines, and the younger guy in the wheelchair earlier in the film mumbling, he actually says, 'she took everything' excellent film...

    What a beautiful person, evervescent. I wish the interviewer asked more about her time in the play (commisioned by and starring Kirk Douglas) and about her onset reactions to the more powerful and heartbreaking scenes, and also her thoughts and feelings on the story itself and its deeper message.

    I wonder if she's related to Cher, whose real name is Cherilyn Sarkisian. Probably just a coincidence. She's very personable and I enjoyed her stories about being in the film.

    Wish she had more exposure in films in her younger days .

    The passing of time has proven that Will Sampson's character "Chief" is viewed by most people, to have been the most important person.....the true hero in the entire movie. And Will's amazing "first time" acting performance continues to be raved about by everyone who has seen the film. While it's true that every actor's performance was brilliant..."Chief" remains the FAVORITE character over all.

    • @thatsmrharley2u2
      @thatsmrharley2u2 Рік тому +3

      In the book, if I remember right, 'Chief' is the narrator throughout the whole story.

    • @ginfrench3350
      @ginfrench3350 Рік тому +1

      @@thatsmrharley2u2 yes he was...and although the book is quite different from the film, Chief is the only person who actually gets the courage to escape that abusive hospital...and of course he makes sure his friend Mac (in spirit form) "flies over" the cuckoo's nest. 👍

    • @TTM9691
      @TTM9691 Рік тому

      What are you babbling about? Anyone who has ever read the book knows that Chief is the central character. And your last sentence is completely subjective. And no, when I think of Cuckoo's Nest, I think of Jack Nicholson, and so do most people. Thinking for another two seconds: Louise Fletcher was voted number two screen villain of all time a few years ago on some poll, so her performance continues to reverberate (to the extent they made an entire miniseries based on her character). It's not a contest, and of course Will Sampson is great in it but if you're making such declarations well then I call bullshit on your babble. I'd love to see interviews with the actors who played Cheswick and Harding at LEAST as much as I'd want to see interviews with Sampson. THOSE are the two most underrated performances of the movie, by FAR.

      My apologies. I was trolling in my deleted comment.
      Actually, the final shot of Chief running (after his escape) was quite memorable.

    It is absolutely shocking that Mimi wasn’t able to parlay her role into stardom. She should have been invited to the Hollywood premiere, the Oscars, the whole shebang. She should have been able to retain a big-name agent, Douglas should have put her in more projects, DeVito & Lloyd should have brought her onto Taxi, and on and on. I just cannot understand it.

    • @straycatttt2766
      @straycatttt2766 11 місяців тому

      I had the notion that she was invited to the Oscars but that she was unable to make it due to her work schedule. You had a good idea about how nice it could have been for Devito or Lloyd to have invited her to guest star on “Taxi.” The entertainment industry is tough on attractive young actresses. It’s unfair but there is that sense that offers stop coming as their looks fade with age.

    Having read MAD magazine since the early 60s, this was one of two movies they did not make fun of. But rather accentuated what the movie was about. The other was American Graffiti

  • @stevebaker6149

    It was a relatively small role but she was an absolutely essential part of the movie, in the shadow of the formidable Nurse Ratched. She has that illusive quality that your eyes are drawn to her character.

    Nurse Pilbow was kind of an odd and elusive character. She didn’t have much personality or an opinion of her own, but got startled easily. I’m glad I finally know about this beautiful Armenian actress! I think it was her only movie; maybe check IMDB.

    11:08 I'm not sure it was Forman's vision.
    From what I've heard Nicholson and Forman disagreed about key aspects of the film which resulted in Nicholson refusing to let Forman run the rehearsals and the two men only spoke to each other through the cinematographer.
    But thank you for posting this fascinating interview.
    It's a shame that Mimi Sarkisian never appeared in another film.
