Dicaprio is right, Simon does ask great questions and I you can tell he gets a lot out of a deeper conversation. Great interview and I thought the film was wonderful and thrilling
Especially when compared to an interview with someone like Jesse Eisenberg, Leo sounds (and probably is) pretty intelligent and down to earth and sincere. Those two interviews are day and night to me.
Unbelivable how much we all suddenly started to love this guy. I mean, we (men) used to hate him so much because he was the shapeless guy of Titanic whom all the girl were in love with. But now I think I like him as a person/actor much more than any fangirl did in the 90s.
Great job to Mr. Mayo with his excellent questions. It allowed us to see the real side of Leo and how he has such a passion for the film's he makes, hope he wins the Oscar!
Lol the interview was great. I don't think the ending was bad. He was basically saying he's tired of answering stupid questions. Which is basically what most interviewers do . If he's there about the film ask about the film not lady gaga LMFAO.
Great interview but as much as I love the end bit I'm afraid I think that was a bit of an abuse of his trust. If he knew that was going to be included there's no way he would have been talking so candidly. I hope it doesn't backfire on you guys.
+TheLonesomeChef I think that's true as well. Not totally cool that they left it in, especially as it could potentially alienate Leo from some of the red carpet stuff. On the other hand, Leo may have loved it because now he doesn't have to partake in the absolute rubbish that is Entertainment Tonight.
+TheLonesomeChef I think ET and other showbiz media like that knows that they suck at doing insightful interviews If anything he is insulting their viewers, who are probably too busy looking at Kim K. instagram photos right now.
+TheLonesomeChef It's a known problem with the industry. It's why Crag Ferguson ripped up and tossed away the pre-approved interview notes as he sat to talk with his guests. It's the promise Kevin Pollak makes to his guests, that it'll be more of a natural conversation. There is no threat from the executives or unions to worry about a backlash of any kind, though. Mics on or off, you don't speak your mind in a situation like that, around people in those jobs, if you really don't want word getting out.
All I'm saying is Leo thinks he's just doing a RADIO interview. The fact it'll get posted on the internet by the station probably doesn't even occur to him. So once they're 'off air' anything he says is just between him and the people there, beyond whether the mic is still on or off. You can tell that when his talking he's already on his feet and on his way to the door. And as one that measures every word he puts out in public with a ruler I doubt he's amused at being put out there throwing shade at American outlets which he deals with regularly. It might be fair game by Simon and Co but it also might mean that next time Leo is in the UK promoting a film he'll skip doing this interview. Which would be a shame.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are by a MILE the best actors of their generation. Michael Fassbender is good too. The Academy have hated Leo for far too long and it's about time they took the stick out of their assees.
+naeemak They are good actors, but there are actors in The Revenant alone that could stand toe-to-toe (Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter). Lest we forget Chiwetel Ejiofor, Javier Bardem, Christoph Waltz, Eddie Redmayne, etc, etc, etc. It's a great time for film.
Bit at the end was great, but keeping it in compromises his position with the American press now. This is the sort of thing that will make them turn on him. He's 100% right though.
+RandyChimp He doesn't care, and do you really think the press will start avoiding him? He's the hottest ticket in Hollywood and has been for quite some time.
we're so excited when a person in the public sphere is polite and decent that we hail him as a great person. have we come to expect celebreties to be assholes and entitled? i don't get it.
Scott Wollaston exactly, the press like to claim he is because they find it hard to understand that someone who does not want to do popcorn summer cash movies and instead focus on personal films would possibly have a motive other than awards. It makes no sense since awards only help people who are in need of money and creative independence. Leo already has these things but because he is so good he keeps getting nominated.
Me too. They treat us like garbage. They also made us look like we just stand or sit around and eat food. Then we just fall to our deaths when chased by MEN (the cause of all our problems). Smh. I hate society. 🙄
Dicaprio is right, Simon does ask great questions and I you can tell he gets a lot out of a deeper conversation. Great interview and I thought the film was wonderful and thrilling
Excellent bit at the end!
+Layla Cat I agree!
+Layla Cat
And that's why Mayo is important.
He's actually terrific.
+Layla Cat Haha, it's great hearing him talk informally.
+PauLtus B I have tried and I actually can't think of another modern (entertainment) interviewer that's better than Mayo? He's flawless
+Layla Cat Can't wait for it to be taken out of context by bloggers.
why did I watch this in fullscreen
Leo staring into your soul is an important part of your diet.
The ending of The Revenant completes me.
Ha ha.
hahaha love that you kept the end in
Such a genuine moment.
I could play this 24/7, he has a great and soothing voice
What an impressive man our Leo. The more I learn about him and the more I watch his films the more I admire him.
Loved the ending...
He'a gone from being a pretty middle of the road teen heart throb to one of the best actors in the world. Respect.
Aww man that ending was priceless. Haha! Unbelievable film, without doubt one of the best I've ever watched.
I also thought that were some really good questions - and answers. So I was smiling when I heard that ending. good interview.
Seems like a nice guy.
+Coochicoo he seems genuine, it is so sexy and refreshing
That ending was gold, I think youve hit on something there by keeping the audio on
Leo said 'great questions' last time he was with Mayo. Good to know he genuinely enjoys these interviews!
Why does he have such a calming voice?
Especially when compared to an interview with someone like Jesse Eisenberg, Leo sounds (and probably is) pretty intelligent and down to earth and sincere. Those two interviews are day and night to me.
Another wonderful interview. Great questions and fantastic answers. Thoughtful sums it up quite nicely.
Unbelivable how much we all suddenly started to love this guy.
I mean, we (men) used to hate him so much because he was the shapeless guy of Titanic whom all the girl were in love with.
But now I think I like him as a person/actor much more than any fangirl did in the 90s.
10000% agree
The end made it. Leo seems like a really good guy.
That little end bit basically sums up why I love radio. None of that dumbed down rubbish you get on TV chat shows. First class.
I doubt Leo thought that end bit would be left in ha oh dear
Great job to Mr. Mayo with his excellent questions. It allowed us to see the real side of Leo and how he has such a passion for the film's he makes, hope he wins the Oscar!
I loved how he called out all the lazy journalists at the end
ooo, so good to listen to a good voice of reason and care.
he is so fun to talk to
and what a great interviewer
Gotta love Leo
Great interview!
good interview there Mayo
Excellent interview!
Your honesty is brutally honest
If I see another watch commercial I will scream 😱
Pretty chill guy, it seems.
Lol the interview was great. I don't think the ending was bad. He was basically saying he's tired of answering stupid questions. Which is basically what most interviewers do . If he's there about the film ask about the film not lady gaga LMFAO.
And the Oscar goes to...
+Luvie1980 ... The Bear in The Revenant
*Leo claps poker-faced*
Bryan Cranston, for Trumbo!
Leo: "Fuck!!! Not again!!!!"
+Victor Almanzar Am I the only one who thought Tom Hardy was doing a Buffalo Bill impression?
+Luvie1980 Simon Mayo
+Luvie1980 Right!
Hopefully he win an oscar.
Leo is the man. Seems like a legit dude.
even in black you can see his amazing eyes ; hope he wins!!!
He's preaching. It's sad what's happening.
Really think not omitting the end clip was a breach of trust, unless he said otherwise, or was this also aired at the end of the love interview?
Great interview but as much as I love the end bit I'm afraid I think that was a bit of an abuse of his trust. If he knew that was going to be included there's no way he would have been talking so candidly. I hope it doesn't backfire on you guys.

+Lawlser
Honestly i doubt they did it without him sining it off.
+TheLonesomeChef I think ET and other showbiz media like that knows that they suck at doing insightful interviews

Sounds like the Jinx right that end bit.
Who was the other guy in this clip? It sounded like he read that straight off the page.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy are by a MILE the best actors of their generation. Michael Fassbender is good too. The Academy have hated Leo for far too long and it's about time they took the stick out of their assees.
so true 👍
+naeemak When are you coming back to Film General brah ?
+naeemak Christian Bale too.
Hated him? He's been nominated countless times. Just because he hadn't yet won doesn't mean they hate him or have anything against him.
Will Poulter confirmed top actor of 20XX
I've been watching his interviews back to back, and I notice that the questions are quite repetitive...
Interview ends at 15:01 - there you go...
Fenx
Bit at the end was great, but keeping it in compromises his position with the American press now. This is the sort of thing that will make them turn on him. He's 100% right though.
+RandyChimp He doesn't care, and do you really think the press will start avoiding him? He's the hottest ticket in Hollywood and has been for quite some time.
I will write my own script in my spare time ⏲️
The is the standard to which interviews should be held.
we're so excited when a person in the public sphere is polite and decent that we hail him as a great person. have we come to expect celebreties to be assholes and entitled? i don't get it.
Ouch, serious burn to Entertainment Tonight at the end there.
hahaha the end!
Where's leo... screen is just leo's pucture.
Why is he so bothered about awards? Everyone knows he's a great actor and has a body of work not many can match.
+Virgil Grissom He isn't as far as I can tell. It's the press that are bothered on his behalf.
Scott Wollaston exactly, the press like to claim he is because they find it hard to understand that someone who does not want to do popcorn summer cash movies and instead focus on personal films would possibly have a motive other than awards. I wonder what ET thinks about this interview
Bear'd Man.
I identify myself as a horse, so the movie was really triggering for me
Me too. They treat us like garbage. They also made us look like we just stand or sit around and eat food. Then we just fall to our deaths when chased by MEN (the cause of all our problems). Smh. I hate society. 🙄
Hahah "...Lady Gaga!..." Oh leo, swoon!
LADY GAGA!! I smell a meme...
What if Gaga wins an Oscar before Leo.......
+Oggy Sama it could happen, since Best Song is generally done earlier in the Broadcast. Picture, Director, Actor, and Actress are done toward the end.
so, about that liver..
Lady Gaga!
No no not for me nga
So not only is Mayo useless and ignorant when he's with Kermode, he interrupts when interviewing as well.
What an idiotic comment. Mayo did a great interview.
