This is now 40yrs ago ! Even though the riding styles have now changed these guys were absolutely on it and very quick. So good to see the smiling faces and the great sounds of the 2 stroke. Simpler and happier times when you could race on a budget.
This was surely the greatest Schoolboy motocross meeting ever staged. The depth of talent was amazing. Jamie Dobb, Paul Malin, Mark Banks, Jared Smith , Pedro Traghter, Colin Dugmore, Rob Herring, Werner Dewitt to name but a few all went onto to have excellent careers in Grand Prix a few years later and in Dobb & Pedro Traghter case becoming world champions in 125cc class. Also American Larry Ward who the inter 100cc class at this international became a AMA Outdoor motocross &Supercross Champion in US. For me I saw the fastest schoolboy I ever saw at this meeting, American Dick Bellora, won the Senior class aboard an Alec Wright Kawasaki , he was on a different planet . Thank you so much for posting this fantastic video of such an amazing event.
The KX60's & 80's were the King of the Minibikes!! They seemed much better than the YZ CR or RM at the time! A Good way to make Loyal Customers for Life!!👍😁
Technique has developed so much over the years, it's crazy to watch old races like this... even in the 90's it was a lot different. McGrath came in and shook the game up, he was so good because he brought in that new school BMX style into supercross, he was so much more skilled because of the technique he used that others later adopted
it does not matter what technique or time area, the top guys of the 70s were a match for todays riders all things being equal, different times different styles tracks, would like to see today's riders in 3 feet deep mud, not smooth sand tracks
The schoolboy'smotocross club was for the rich kids. I raced amca with the North Staffs Motocross Club inthe mid, late 70's as I couldn't afford the latest machines even with my parents help, two paper rounds and working Saturdays at Pimlott's garage in New Inn Lane. The one thing I learned young was that hard work didn't often make you rich.
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯young legends to be! Looks like Dick is riding a 1984 pre-production KX125 versus everyone else on 1983 bikes? Dicks bike even looks a lot like the 1985 KX,could he be riding a works bike here?
Haha I remember racing in the 80s. I got better every year and planned to be world champion. The problem was I lacked talent compared to other guys. If I got 3 seconds better a year, they got 5 seconds faster.
Dick Bellora and Paul Dennis were legends in amateur racing. Know for certain that Paul raced for Kawasaki for several years as a pro; Dick im not sure about…the guy was a badass though, on 80’s and 125’s!
@@wbev_thai1666 i dont know i used to ride inter80 westmidlands and Chris was 125 he was deaf but could bloody ride a bike had sponsors even at schoolboy level!!
@@alundavies5171 that is definitely him mate , he was a great rider and a lovely guy , everyone used to take there kx 80’s down to his dad to get them tuned up lol , he used to be on the rm 125 in them days and used to ride the cotswold club most of the time
the golden era of motocross, the best looking bikes, best open tracks, best times to enjoy the bikes, mono shock, full floater, uni link what a time
