I pulled a 560 back in 77-78 in farm class. Took the sleeves out, bore the block fore 806 pistons , had work done on the pump. The tractor was putting out 95 hp without a turbo. It took me to the state points leader both years. I did brake a tooth off the bull gear once.

By the looks of the blow by, id say its ready for an overhaul. The turbo is going to finish it off.

Turbos like some loose rings, less load on the side wall under boost and full throttle

@@BullittKid08 that things in need of a rebuild badly making a 65 hp with a turbo on a 282 is only a 4 horsepower difference from stock. From what I’ve heard 75 to 90 horsepower is sorta of the range you wanna be with a M&W turbo on a 282.

That's a tired 282. I wouldn't go out of my way to turbo one to begin with, but if it were recently overhauled, it would walk the dog WAY past 65hp.

It doesnt sound like a good idea to turbo a 560 which has already been recalled because the rear ends failed...

The problem was fixed within the 3rd year of production by Harvester, the tractor never had those problems after that. It's not a good idea to buy a 300hp JD 4wd tractor that has a faulty water pump drive either.

It doesn’t sound like a great idea, but it doesn’t seem to be an issue. Tons of these things are out in the wild and i haven’t heard of it really causing problems. The biggest issue is once the turbo is on, the tractor is too light to take advantage of the extra power. But tons of pullers say a 560 with a turbo or a new engine is a great entry level pulling tractor.

It definitely seems to be a mixed bag. IH fixed the rears on these. It would be rare to find one that hadn't. I know of some living with over 100hp and duals and have been for over 20 years. And then there are others that threw a rod in stock.
However, there are still loads of these farming still today... 60 years later. I'm a fan of red but even green, orange or other they are made better than anything you can buy today.

But,pulling an ensilage chopper, the extra power would be nice.
