I am gifting this to myself for my bday. Looks like a sumptuous all encompassing package. An album ripe for rediscovery. Thank you for such detailed unboxing videos.
Thank you for your great review. Ian Hunter was born in my home town of Oswestry, and for almost 40 years I have lived 100yds from where he lived for a short period of his childhood. I'm very happy with the quality of this fabulous set, particularly the cost which was £99.99 from Amazon UK
Hi Phil you’ve sold this to me, without your reviews we wouldn’t know what we’re getting this looks special and one definitely for the collection, cheers Phil keep them coming 👍
This is fantastic I cannot wait for it to arrive as a Mott and Ian Hunter fanatic myself. Didn’t even know about it until you posted this thank u s much!! I ordered one but won’t arrive for at least 10 days they say. Thank u so much for the great review.
Brilliant review ...so brilliant in fact that an item I had no intention of buying as I had multiple versions already I went ahead and purchased merely on the strength of your enthusiastic appraisal .Well done !
Like yourself Phil, I’m a HUGE Mott the Hoople fan, and I’ve been bowled over by the detail included in this box set, and it sounds superb. Keep up the great work!!
Hallo Phil, thought I have everything from one of my favourite bands and now you present this incredible box set ! the book alone is worth buying this brilliant gem ! I'm overwhelmed, even though I appreciate the early albums more as you know, but followed Hoople back in the day until 1974 and also hold Bowie in high regard, this purchase is a must, oh my battered bank account ! thanks for showing !
Hi Jogi, I did the review quite soon after receiving the box. Since then I have been reading, playing and getting closer to this box set and if I had done it now I would be even more enthusiastic about it. This will be in my top 3 sets of 2023. Phil :)
Really excited about this! Thanks for your review Phil. I bought this back in the day. It’s probably my favourite Mott album. I bought it at first for the Bowie - I was and am an ardent fan! Also a fan of Lou Reed ( and Mott did Sweet Jane on this ) indeed on the web, there’s a tape of Lou Reed laying down a guide vocal for the song! A great album! I agree with you about Madfish. The label are real enthusiasts about the music. I have Argus 50th and that’s absolutely wonderful! I also have one they did for Family ( equally superb ) As you say, Phil, I hope that they approach the other Mott albums in a similar fashion! Getting mine tomorrow! Can’t wait! Thanks Phil. Also thanks for your post about the reissued Tull boxes. Christmas has come early for me! Oh, if you get a chance, try to review Air Born by Camel - an excellent boxed set. I was never a great fan of the group. But the aforementioned set is sumptuous! If you’ve already reviewed it, then please accept my apologies! Take care and thank you! 😊
Thanks, Phil. Love the enthusiasm. Your reviews are always done with so much heart and soul. If you cover this in more detail, I'd really like to hear whether the new mixes improve the sound of the rockers on the album, legendarily thin on the original, as Ian Hunter has acknowledged, because Bowie wanted a "radio-friendly" sound. That worked for the softer songs, such as 'All the Young Dudes,' 'Soft Ground' (another great Verden Allen track), and 'Sea Divers,' but really messed up the rockers, such as 'One of the Boys,' 'Jerkin' Crocus,' and 'Sucker.' Having heard Ian Hunter's 'Long Shots & Outtakes,' which told us how monumental 'Short Back & Sides' could have been, I am just desperate for the rocker songs on 'All the Young Dudes' to actually rock, as the band always did live. They always had bad luck. 'Wildlife' was meant to be a live album but all the recordings got trashed, apart from the final medley. 'All the Young Dudes' could have been twice the album it was if the production had been right for the rockers. And then the rejection of Mick Ronson. Oh, well ... Fortunately Ian Hunter has graced the 21st century with killer albums, and, as he has declared, he is still standing. Long may he.
Hi Phil, Brilliant, you sold me just bought it. Sold out on Burning Shed, available on line but £150 to £200+ already, got it from Amazon £125.00, less than 10 copies left. This will sell out soon and if there is a repress ? I missed out on The Wishbone Ash Box, I contacted Madfish about that one and they said there won't be a second press. Superb Album got an original CBS plain Orange label copy, bought it back in 72, so nearly 52 years ago. Like you said would be fantastic if they put out ' MOTT' too. Great enthusiastic review Phil, can't wait now for my copy to arrive.
That looks absolutely brilliant Phil. Love Mott The Hoople. Did you hear the 'British Lions' that most of the band appeared in after Mott disbanded? Bought the first album in the day and it's one of favourite albums. Picked up the second album a couple of weeks ago from a charity shop.
...I definitely believe you, yesterday after watching your video on the patron site I listened to the album again after a long time, pure youth time memories, the posters and inserts are also very nice, how many pages does the book have ?
Regret not buying this - I went for the orange vinyl double album as price of £125 seemed too high and I have zero interest in the tat. But would love the book and CDs. Alas, already sold out at £125 and prices are well above £150 already. Even normally reliable Juno are charging £160 once delivery is included and that’s too much for my wallet.
I am gifting this to myself for my bday. Looks like a sumptuous all encompassing package. An album ripe for rediscovery. Thank you for such detailed unboxing videos.
Thank you - Enjoy 😊
I didn't even know this was a thing!
Long live Mott!
Long live 'Unter!
Great stuff Phil, took me back to when I saw them at Birmingham town hall in the mid 70s with Queen as saport band.
WOW!!! 🔥❤ Nice unboxing Phil - adding to my wish list.
Great review. This looks amazing. Take care!

My Favorite Band of All Time and it’s Not Even Close. Love Them
Great review Phil! I did see them once at the height of their popularity. 17 yrs old in 1972. What a time to have been alive at that age!
