Amongst all the hifi chattering on UA-cam, your channel stands apart as a cozy 20 or so minutes of fascinating anecdotes, unique insights, and warm humor. The pace and tone is relaxing, the information trusted, and the friendly banter is a true pleasure. Above all, your videos have heart, if such a thing is possible in a short chat about audio. Thank you from an older hippie girl in Seattle, USA!
Yes I did enjoy the riff, just like perusing a hifi mag looking at interesting things but not wanting to buy. It’s nice to build one’s knowledge of what is available in the market place just incase the buying bug bites!
These are my "dream" speakers. If I could replace my JBL's with anything, it would be these. I'm one of those Paradigm fan boys though. Beautiful bookshelf monitors.
Thanks guys, another great chat. I've not traditionally been into the 'North American sound', although the new Martin Logan Motion XT100's are turning my head.. These sound interesting to me and I'd like to hear them! I should imagine that with that rear facing porting they would need to be well away from walls to avoid bass boom though...
The Martin Logans (f200) and Paradigms (100f) are both fantastic for music. But if you're going to use them for home theater, the Founder 90c center blows away Martin logans center channel. And I'm an amt lover, so that's saying something.
As more than one riff raffer has already commented, they look remarkably like PMCs. And with an almost perfect score on the riffometer they must sound like them as well. Another great riff chaps.
Paradigm are of course in Mississauga not Toronto, which although next to Toronto is not Toronto. Much the same as Hove is not Brighton. I am aware that if you said Mississauga the viewers would have been baffled as to where that is. Paradigm used to be a customer of mine years ago, nice bunch of people.
Heya, Love your channel. There's a small hi-fi shop here in Toronto where Getty (Gary to his mother) Lee gets his Naim gear...only mention it for the great name, "HI FI FO FUM
No way!!! I had no idea that Geddy was into Hi-Fi. You must let them know about "Riff". We could get him on as a special guest on the sofa, and I could have a round of golf with Alex! Mike
Too much bass from a bookshelf? Certainly you could have adjusted for that. I've heard some great things from this speaker line so can't wait to hear them
Audiophiles fall into two categories. Detail, which tend to be forward and energetic like klipsch, focal, B&W and others. OR the gentle and polite/smooth ranging from Harbeth and dynaudio to quad. One camp usually dismisses the other. There is, however only so far one can go with softening transients before a speakers sound dull, lifeless and unrealistic.
Of course, I reviewed this video studiously. . What these (and most) non-N. American semi-literate "audiophiles" don't understand is that our houses are built entirely differently than anywhere else (exc Australia).
Having to explain a joke is a little but like trying to convince someone that there is, or was, a good power trio out of Toronto, something you shouldn't rush into or even be into.
@@MrVinylista but it guarantees your upper body fitness levels considering each speaker weighs 11kg. My comment wasn't actually serious one. They are heavier than I had expected. I personally have to keep fit if I want to experiment on the positioning of my ATC 19's. Each weighs 19kg.
I love British speakers, as well as speakers from many other parts of Europe. Regarding American speakers (and amps for that matter), I guess they have a reputation for big and bold sound. But I hate to think that Klipsch and JBL are viewed as the standard for North American speakers. I think both are good, but only in their upper ranges. It would be great if you could try out some speakers from Joseph Audio, DeVore Fidelity and Sonner Audio, among other high end brands, to appreciate the breadth of diversity and quality in North American loudspeakers.
Every house in N. America is wood construction with hollow walls. That eats bass and a lot of everything else. Outside North America, houses are masonry. That reinforces bass and a lot of everything else. Euro speakers come to Canada and they sound anemic. No power, no dynamic range, no bass, no detail. A bland porridge.
Way harsh generalization of US speakers. A few points: JBL’s Reputation until very recently were almost universally panned here, to the point that rarely were they reviewed in the well known audiophile magazines. They were the paragon of the “West Coast Sound.” The East Coast Sound typically were more like traditional British offerings from Harbeth, etc. which I, personally favor East Coast.

It's just the best.
I get the feeling, these great guys can chat for ever on hi-fi. I hope they do 👍🥸
@@zjzozn Indeed.
Aye
Thanks, you're most kind. Warm regards from across the pond!
Another enjoyable Riff.Great banter from Chas and Dave as usual. Thankyou for the entertainment guys.👍
Thanks. I'll take that over the last comparison someone made of us - which was the two old men from The Muppets!
My first ‘proper’ hifi had JBL 4333’s and they were all that for sure except you need two men to move them!
Gosh I can’t keep giving plaudits, but have to say another gem of a riff. As always highly entertaining and informing. Cheers chaps.

They are quite fun, aren't they?
Power trio from Toronto? I didn’t know Mike is a big Triumph fan.

Toronto boy here. All those guesses were Canadian but NOT from Toronto :) Still love you guys!
Does Dave not like bass or something 😂
Have you listened to their bigger brothers since this video? It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts.
No, but I want to!
Mike

try a pair of Klipsch RP-600M. You might enjoy them....

Willam was from Montreal ,Quebec which is like The difference of London and Glasgow, Scotland

Who's going to finish the Limerick?
Seeing you both lifting them up and down in sitting position they can't be that good.
Each speaker weighs 11.3kg, pretty heavy for a small stand mounter - not that weight is an automatic guarantor of quality, of course...

Try Glen Gould
Celine Dion and Shatner are from Montreal to the east.
True, but it's still Canadia, isn't it?

Yes, will try to do more of what you've mentioned. I rather like Devore!
Nice looking 'speakers, but not nearly mad enough.

. . . Interesting analysis but true.
Forgot to mention I’m a old (very), hippy head man in Brighton.
Send Ditchling Road my regards, I used to live there when I was at Sussex Uni!
