- Hi guy's ! Here is my take on Steve Lukather's Guitar solo from the track "These Chains" off The Seventh One album by Toto. In this video i created the backing track myself as i wanted to show you the production skills i have for recording, mixing and the quality of the audio that i can produce.Absolutely love this song and the solos in it.I decided to cover the first solo in the song because i love the whole sound and feel of it.Firstly the bend and the very gentle harmonic at the beginning is just so cool and how he gets it to sound effortless without actually tapping the fret. On his right hand his middle finger makes very little contact on the 21st fret as the left hand is bending the G string from fret 10 to 12.This is creating a natural harmonic note of a high G. There is no actual tapping noise when doing this, its just a very subtle touch as if you were playing an open string harmonic. The very first initial pick of the G string when bending the 10th fret to 12, that gives you the ring/vibration the string needs so you can place your middle finger from your right hand over 21st fret and just catch the vibration of the string to give you the high G harmonic. Then that lovely major whammy bar lick follows that, which is so laid back and sounds great. The rest of the solo is classic Steve Lukather licks all in G minor pentotonic with bluesy bends and then finishing off with a very tasty hybrid lick using pure minor and minor pentotonic. In my opinion a very tasty solo indeed and full of pure feel. I am a Composer, Producer, Guitarist and Tutor and have been for many years now teaching Guitar and music production.I decided to do an instructional video on this solo and share the great feel, techniques and tones from Steve Lukather. @@tube33139 Hi ! Thanks for kind words. I used just just a mono delay and Chorus from Line6 PodFarm. No reverb and no compression. 👍
what amp/software please?
Hi there ! I used the line6 Podfarm software for this. The amp i used in Podfarm was a Soldano head and a 4x12 vintage cab. A mono Delay and Chorus with no reverb or compression.
