- Instructions for drawing a mushroom. Come on, everyone wants to learn how to draw a mushroom. In this easy drawing tutorial I'll show you how to draw a mushroom and make it look really convincing. I'll explain how to get the proportion of the mushroom correct by measuring with your pencil. But the most important thing to remember when drawing the mushroom is to get the angle of the lines correct. This, together with creating edges and not outlines are all explained simply so you can produce a really brilliant drawing. Teenagers and above should find this drawing tutorial useful. It will also be useful for beginners to drawing or those wanting to improve their drawing skills and techniques.

0:00 Introduction
0:27 The angle of drawn lines and the direction of shading is very important.
0:47 2B and 8B pencils 8B graphite stick
1:17 Sketch the initial drawing lightly with the 2B pencil.
1:29 If you have to make corrections, it is easy because the drawing is very lightly drawn.
2:45 Now suggest the angle of the line, it will help with shading later.
5:01 Notice creating edges rather than outlines creates a more effective drawing.
5:57 Notice the shading is following the angle of the line here too.
7:31 Add a little texture with the tip of the pencil
8:01 Use a broken line to suggest the rough edge.
8:33 Remember shadows should have soft edges, press lightly with the graphite

Omg! I wish I had an art teacher like you when I was at school. I watched both of your tutorials of how to draw a tulip and a mushroom. I didn't know that when you look at an object it is made of of lines, shapes, hardness and softness, patterns, all these variations. When you began putting the shading under the mushroom I wondered what on earth were you doing and then I glanced at the picture of the mushroom and there was shadow under the mushroom. Although I had looked at the mushroom many, many times during the tutorial I did not initially see any of what you alerted the viewer to. I have now set myself a task of 'seeing' objects. Thank you for the tutorials. They are brillant. I lament the fact that I can't draw. I love looking at art, visiting museums but watching your tutorials has given me the confidence to try and draw a mushroom. You have a new subscriber. Lockdown, I'm def not bored as I've been trying new skills, needlework and now art.
What paper is best for drawing?
👍🏿👩🏾🦱🇬🇧
You can draw. The best paper to draw on is the piece under your pencil. But try cartridge paper. Drawing is all about learning to see as you have found out, when you look at a tulip, don't see a tulip see shapes, tones, lines colours etc. Cheers Paul
Most enjoyable Paul and educational. Who would have thought about drawing the humble mushroom; love the enthusiasm you put into your work and commentary.
That's great, really pleased you enjoyed the video.
Grandad I’m doing the mushroom now 😁. It’s going on well 😊😊😊😊
Thank you so very much! I did this lesson yesterday and was happy with the outcome. I am trying to reinforce the principles that you teach by repeating each lesson without the video. I experimented a little today by going on line and looking at photos of a lot of different kinds of mushrooms and then selected a difficult picture of two mushrooms with a lot of wavy edges. I did it on newsprint because I figured it would end up in the trash. Your teaching is amazing and the drawing is a keeper! It’s hard to believe! I can’t thank you enough for these wonderful videos.
You are very welcome. I bet your drawing was brilliant!
This was another fabulous lesson! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
I didn't know that I can draw until I followed your videos.. as an absolute beginner I'm so impressed with my work .. thank you so much
You are welcome, good luck with your drawing.
Paul, I've just begun to draw as one of my Co-Vid challenges. Who knew I'd like this. I've been searching for a good intro set of instructions and yours have been GREAT. I did the card box last night, and can't wait to try the mushroom later today. Love your enthusiasm. Also VERY nice to have a guy about my age to learn from!!!!
Hi Charles, really pleased you enjoy my videos, good luck with your drawing.
Though my drawing was not neat, it still surprised all my friends. Thank you for teaching me how to draw!!!!!
You are welcome, good luck with your drawing.
This was truly amazing not only did I do it I felt like I can do it thanks take care!
Of course you can draw. There is only one person stopping you and that's the person in the mirror.
شكرا أستاد انت أحسن رسام في العالم
شكرًا لك.
Thankyou heaps Paul in showing us the way to shade an object and the fabulous tips. I studied a drawing subject at my local college in Australia last year. I did really well in subject. The one thing that was lacking we were not shown how to shade and using simple lines for direction. I am better equiped at drawing fruit and veges now.
I have learnt alot watching this video. I have mushrooms I bought, so I am going to practice your techiques tomorrow
morning. 😃😃😃
That's great, really pleased my tutorial has helped. Good luck with your drawing. Cheers Paul
Paul I am also studying a Visual Arts Diploma, now, so your art videos are very much going to come in handy, especially now as our classes have been posponed at the moment because of this crazy Coronavirus epidemic, our college is preparing when we are supposed to resume after Easter holidays, that we may have to do our classes online. All of Australia with schools, colleges and universities have postponed classes it is sad, because of this virus that have gripped the world.
I am also a fashion illustrater and I dabble in designing cards, I paint and sell. Do you have any tips or tutorials on how to draw different types of fabric and also the use of water colour in fashion illustrations? Any tips or tutorials would be greatly appreciated.
Nella 😃 🎨

Your Joy is contagious, thank you 🕊️
You are so welcome
love your encouraging commentary!!!
Cheers
Beautiful work!!! As an artist, when I do outline, it is done extremely softly, usually using a used blending stump or tortillion. People and animal portraits are not outlined at all as I work primarily with shading. I don’t like my work to look as if it was created from a page out of a coloring book. This technique gives me a different approach to my graphite and charcoal drawings…thanks!
Thank yoy and thanks for sharing!
I love, love, love your work...THANK YOU!
Thank you so much! Cheers

what can I use until I can get a 8b pencil. Right now all I have is HB 6B, Pencils and 2b 6b graphite sticks. And, soft medium hard charcoal pencils and soft and medium graphite sticks. By the way, last night I was able to draw the ribbon, flag, cliff and all the heads/faces. Thank you so much as I am a late bloomer of 54 years old. I love to draw, its so soothing.
Don't worry about particular pencils. A 6B pencil is fine. Remember it's not the pencil that matters, it's what you do with it that really matters.
@@PaulPriestleyart thank you so much,... I wish I could show you the faces I drew,.. they were coming to life with a snap chat filter. Thank you for teaching us how to sketch
perfecto
Cheers
You're amazing... But can we use a pencil instead of a graphite piece?
You certainly can. Make sure the pencil has been sharpened to a long point, then use it on its side.
@@PaulPriestleyart thanks. The pencils you are using in the video are graphite pencils or lead pencil ?
Your drawings all seem to be many times larger than life.
How would you approach drawing a mushroom that is only, perhaps, twice the size of the original?
What I'd like to know is....how to draw without benefit of the graphite stick.
I draw much bigger than reality because you can follow in much easier when watching from a screen. You draw the image the same, size doesn't matter. Graphite is just a large piece of the material inside a pencil. You could use a pencil on its side and create the same effect.
@@PaulPriestleyart -thank you
cool i did this
That's great, I bet it was brilliant.
Nice video
