As a Peruvian, I can say that, at least in the televote, they'd get more than 5 points because lots of people from Latin America are loving this song. It is actually the first Spanish Eurovision song going viral here (for a Eurovision song standards, the contest still not well-known here). You can see on the UA-cam comments lots of latinos getting behind the song. Although I don't know if 12 points from Latin America, would mean 12 points from ROW. But I think it'd translate in more than 2 points. Actually if Eaea was able to get 2 points from us (if we were the reason), definetely this one should get more than that. No shade to Blanca Paloma, but I know what type of songs latin people usually like, and it wasn't that, but whatever old news. Overall I'm happy for Spain, Zorra was my favorite song in the selection. Obviously, I'm biased cuz I understand the lyrics and get the message inmediately. Even though I'm not part of the demographics this song is aiming to, but Idc. Good Luck Spain

    • @ESCTom
      @ESCTom  4 місяці тому +9

ok thats awesome, cos it kinda of means that Spain could get a minimum of 12 points from the televote then..
Actually a positive of points exchange (ROM & MOL), (CYP & GRE) is that it ensures they dont end up with single digit televote scores

    • @ximitin

We Spaniards are delighted that you like it, I also do not belong to that part of fans who supposedly support this type of controversies for a certain class of people (socially out of date, in my opinion) and it shows the almost obligation to make it clear that the world is changing and the concept of women's liberation has changed as a symptom of social progress in pursuit of better collaboration in the dissolution of traumas that it seems incredible cause certain situations that should not occur, not even in the men, because at the end of the day the message of this song is resolved as a personal concept and each one knows their own thing. Thank you for your presentation and long live Latin America.

  • @escdakota

In Corpore Sano was the same situation and it came 5th so I don’t think Spain will have an issue especially considering that multiple other countries speak Romance languages (Italy, France, Romania, Moldova, Portugal) so they will likely pick up on the meaning quicker than a Serbian entry. We can’t ask for native language entries and then expect them to pander to English speaking audiences.

Commercially the song is already a huge success for being the most downloaded song internationally. It is also a success as a cultural claim for worldwide attention with an incredible degree of identification in the Latin American countries. It's also become popular among many Europeans and bearing in mind, the considerable percentage of Latin Americans in Europe, it may turn out being quite successful. I do agree that most people in Europe will miss out the message somehow for not being so much an issue being called a bitch. Anyway, the song has a good drive and vibe and that works in the Eurovision Contest. The crew are definitely working hard on the singer's vocal performance which is the weak point of it. And loads of fans shouting Zorra, Zorra, Zorra and even singing the whole song, will give it a great fun moment and that's what Spain always goes for no matter the result.

  • @davidjmr16
    @davidjmr16 4 місяці тому +2

The song 'ZORRA' by Nebulossa is an anthem of empowerment and personal vindication in the face of labels and social judgments. The lyrics address the theme of how society tends to judge and stigmatize women for their behavior, especially if they deviate from traditional norms of behavior. The repetition of the word 'slut' throughout the song functions as a reappropriation of the term, which combined is used in a derogatory manner towards women who live their sexuality and freedom openly and unapologetically.
The artist expresses his refusal to change his nature to please others and celebrate his moment of self-acceptance and inner strength. The song reflects a process of personal reconstruction, where the protagonist empowers herself and becomes a 'postcard vixen', an image that defies expectations and criticism. The song's narrative suggests that, despite criticism, the woman has found her own path and is proud of who she is, regardless of the labels society imposes on her.
The message of 'ZORRA' is clear: it is a call for liberation from judgments and the affirmation of one's own identity. Nebulossa uses music as a platform to express the fight against machismo and the importance of self-esteem and self-respect. The song is an example of how art can be used to challenge social norms and promote cultural change towards greater equality and acceptance of diverse identities and lifestyles.

There was actually a story in the Dutch newspaper I read every day about this song today! It was about how some Spanish feminists feel that it's a degrading song, and that even the Spanish PM has spoken out in support of Nebulossa. Maybe this kind of press attention will help to create some buzz about Zorra and help to get the message across.
While there's much to like here, I love the representation, the attitude, the empowerment, the fun Spanish disco sound, I do fear that it won't be understood well. Like you, I had high hopes for St. Pedro, who might have been an easier choice for Spain. In the end I did feel slightly deflated after Benidorm Fest, because St. Pedro didn't really deliver as much as I hoped he would. And my hopes for a good result for Spain in Malmö aren't that high now. I can totally get behind this entry though, I really like them and as I said there's much to like about the song.

Yea I saw that thing about it being anti-feminist, I initially thought it was a joke. How people could infer the opposite of the intended meaning was so odd to me.

A group of countries, especially in the East, are never going to vote for Spain. It doesn't matter what represent us. The problem is not de song. We will never compete to win again. For that reason we don't care: because we have assumed it collectively.
I haven't seen in Spain a national feeling of theft, like on your channel, but: "what have we done to them?" For example, I know Italy and France well and I know that they love Chanel's type of Latin Music more than us, you hear it everywhere there!!!. I was very shocked by the ABSOLUTE rejection of the jury vote and televoting in those countries.
We also think that if Europe doesn't like our art...our culture...music... women's butts, men's butts... Maybe the problem is not our problem, and we shouldn't change anything.

This song is mainly dedicated to Manuela Trasobares who pronounced an unforgettable speech LIVE on a TV show while she throws away several glasses. This is considered as an iconic moment in the Spanish television. Years later, she became the first transsexual women elected in a local election in Spain. She is an opera singer, and she has had a very interesting life. I highly recommend you to WATCH this speech on UA-cam so you can understand much better The story behind The song ZORRA (and all The references in her video).

    Thanks Tom.
Let's see, I completely agree with most of the comments made on your part, but, taking into account that for me I think it is very difficult in any situation to be able to convey any message in depth in just 3 minutes that the performance, it is true that there are professional people who are possibly capable of getting a good result. For example, I have seen and heard the Slovenia version and it doesn't seem bad to me, but I haven't understood anything, I admit that I barely know English, imagine if I don't even they sing it. On the other hand, the artist who does it very well, comes out practically naked, what do you have to say to this? I think that Spain's performance is modern, elegant, with a message (third world language), the voice of The singer that day was not well and the dancers do not have to be scantily clad women, which is what people in their families see as normal. That's all, thanks for listening.

The translation of zorra is vixen but the word doesn't have the English connotación. As you said zorra is stronger than b&tch it actually means sl8t. She will be called Zorra no matter what, so instead she embraces it and is empowered.

There is so much to like about this song, the artists and the performance. I didn't get the message the song conveys until I read the English translation - it then leapt in my admiration and, importantly, the performance, including the dancers, made far more sense. You're absolutely right Tom the meaning behind the song needs to be conveyed, probably with visuals. In 2023 Austria and Czechia had strong messages in their lyrics. IMHO Czechia conveyed the message well in their visuals; Austria far less so. Fingers crossed it becomes a Eurovision anthem! Thanks Tom for an in depth and witty analysis!

In my opinion the two biggest problems this song have are both the 80s tune and her voice, and you can see people saying here "the important part are the lyrics" but that is something that most people outside of Spain will not know, therefore they will not care. If at least her voice were to be as good as the message. The whole packaging diminishes the value of the message itself. Ironically making her not the best choice for this song. There must be for certain other women of her age range who can do justice to this song.

The 2 dancers in the music video do make me feel uncomfortable so thats hurting the song a little bit in my opinion. I dont know how much my opinion matters because being an Australian because the final will be very early in the morning and I dont plan on getting up at 3 or 4am to watch eurovision but by the time voting opens It might be 7 if that is the case and its 7 when voting is happening I might vote if its earlier than 6:45am there is no chance of me voting but as of Right now I want France to win and as someone who is learning French it would be cool to see France with the trophy in both Junior Eurovision and Adult Eurovision. Zoè has already won so Zoè and Slimane with the trophy would be very cool and no country has ever held both trophies at the same time. France also have a 3peat to strive for which has only been done once between both contests. If France can do well in Adult Eurovision that would make them a Powerhouse in Both Contests. Kinda just realised this comment is more about France than Spain but I do like France more than Spain. I just went on a tangent about the fact I want France to win at the moment but Spain is Probably in My Top 5 because My Bottom 5 I have bigger issues with them than a couple guys making me feel uncomfortable that probably wont be an issue in May. Could this year have all the Big 5 in the Top 5? Given Germanys Record Probably not

Surely reading the lyrics you will understand why the audience behaved like this proudly shouting "Z0RRA".
Don't say "Z0RRA" cause it basically sounds like "S0RRA".
Try to say "THOR-RRA" instead of "Z0RRA" cause in Spanish the "Z" sounds like a strong "TH".
And yes, she has no voice and the song is not very good.
