zem 10 it’s bc in America we only ever see Africa in the media and it’s only ever shown as a third world country filled with starvation and disease and poverty. Even though most folks don’t realize that most of Africa isn’t like that at all. That would be very much like the equivalent of filming the poorer parts of states like Alabama and Georgia and saying they are how all of America is all the time.
This black boy said to me "why do you keep wearing braids, just wear your natural hair", I tried to educate him about african hair and he didn't want to hear none of it.😑
@@SevenTailedWolf72 No. It's your choice. My bae can touch my hair all day (and all night), and I don't mind. As a matter of fact, he's ONE of the reasons I stopped cutting it. ;)
Omg. It happens to me all the time. I do my braids myself with different colors and I work at a grocery store. Most if my customers keep asking me "is that your real hair?" "How long did it take you?" "Do you wash your braids?" "How did you get three different colors in there?. It's tiring af. I don't have to sit you down and explain to you. one time I wore my natural hair to school and this one white kid came up to me and asked “how does your hair grow out of your scalp like that” .... I legit got up and walked away
@Abidjanaise And you know they keep making that "educate" excuse, like damn how many times do people have to educate you on same topic over and over again. The internet is right there.
One time i wore my hair to school in a fro and ppl were like "its not crazy hair day" "whats with your hair" LIKE IM SORRY YOU DONT HAVE VOLUME IN YOUR HAIR EMMA
Ignore them, there's probably envy.... I was very frustrated and a bit jealous as a child, because my little blond pigtails NEVER looked as cool as my black friends.

“I’m pretty sure women in Africa can’t afford packaged hair”.....bby there’s a lot of people that can afford Range rovers in Africa and you’re talking about packaged hair💀💀💀 I cant-
They are so ignorant. I'm a woman in Africa who just took out her braids and has another hair appointment tomorrow. Africa is not as poor as they wanna make it seem

I'm not being rude or anything like that..but I'm tired of other countries looking down on Africa, Number 1. Africa is not a country it's a Continent..Number 2. We don't have animals walking up and down on the streets, we have zoos and where they keep them..Number 3. We also have electronic devices, such as: TV's, cell phones, laptops, etc...Number 4.Not all Africans live in huts or straw houses or houses like that. We do have normal houses. In fact, there are lots of mansions in African countries( based on where you are)..Number 5. I'm from South Africa, and I can assure you that I wouldn't want to immagrate to anywhere in the world, I must say I love South Africa with all my heart..it might not be a (well developed) country like the USA..but we are working on it. I believe that God will help us rebuild our Continent so we can stop poverty in other countries in Africa, and meet other people's needs. You can go to AFRICA FACTS ZONE on Twitter, and you'll see how beautiful Africa is... I forgot to add that we also have water.. Edit: I would also like to add that Africa has never needed the world, the world needs Africa. Almost all of our resources come from Africa, but because we have selfish leaders here..we don't use our resources in a responsible way. I mean think about the diamonds and the Gold that we have here..we could be a rich continent, but we were blessed with selfish leaders😧

@Otaku rex There's this man on UA-cam that's called "everybody hates angel" In one of his videos called "black people invented everything", It literally gives you a long ass list of black people who invented the cell phone the Internet, etc.
“I’m pretty sure women in Africa can’t afford packaged hair” Does she not know how hair works. You don’t need packaged hair to braid you can use your own hair that grows naturally.
well, here in KENYA, in AFRICA women CAN DEFINITELY afford packaged hair. No white women could EVER pull off the hairstyles that African women be wearing in these streets. PERIOD. 🇰🇪🇰🇪🇰🇪
My hair is a lotta weird, and I'm caucasian to the point that printer/copier paper has more of a tan than me. My first response would have been 'challenge accepted'. Then I realised Kenyan women and African women are more women than I can comprehend, and in more ways than I can comprehend. So my second response is: Can you please send me a link or few to some of the hairstyles (or specifically name them)? I would like to learn about them.
I was called a wild child when I had a huge stretched out fro at work and asked to wear twist outs instead. At least they knew different styles I guess 😅I left that job.
I'm a French black girl and I'm so obsessed with the fact that I can relate to these problems. It means that it has crossed boundaries and that the black community have the same problems in every occidental countries. That's a shame.
I remember i had to get my ear fixed through a plastic surgeon. The office was in a white area, all the staff was white and the surgeon was a older white guy. The first time i came in my hair was in its natural state. Then i came back for a follow up and my hair was in braids. He wasn’t disrespectful at all. Very fascinated by my hair. Half my appointment was talking about my hair lol my ear is great he did a great job 🤣
Nice. I sometimes think that there is an opportunity to enlighten that some people don't use. Like I was tell someone else on here. Many non black people are just now beginning to even comprehend how black hair works. They are so out of the loop with regards to weaves, wigs etc. No clue about black hair care etc. It's a real mystery to them. They often think it's cool or beautiful but have no idea what goes into it. It's so different than what they are used to. I think once everyone is on the same page and understands how it works, stuff like in this video skit will happen a lot less. But we have to get there first. I think black people can play a part. Not that you're obligated to but, if you educate and help all information about black hair be common knowledge stuff like this won't happen. Once the mystery is gone and people know better than to touch, how hair styles are achieved, etc, or what is considered a rude way to approach a question about hair, there will be less and less of this occurring. I hope. So nice to hear about your willingness to have a pleasant conversation with your surgeon and that he was respectful. I'm sure you enlightened him and now he knows more than before. Very nice.
She tried it I'm from South Africa Durban and I'm definitely sure we can afford packaged hair And white people need to learn to ask us about our hair without being racist I definitely relate people don't even ask to touch your hair around here they just fuckin touch it
People don’t dare touch my hair if I don’t give them a go. Like I know most people don’t like others touching their hair but for me it gives me a calming effect
People used to call me bald all because I had short natural hair and they refused to understand my explanations. My hair was relaxed and I cut it myself.
Tiara Stone .....I have had people touch or pet my hair before (I’m white), usually they were older ladies or a dude hitting on me. I was taught to keep my hands to myself, so it has always bugs me when people make a move like they are going to touch me.
"I'm pretty sure women in Africa cannot afford packaged hair" bish most people in Africa I know have like 3 or 4 houses in Africa so I'm pretty sure we can afford it karen
For a while I always wore my hair in braids and twists. So I decided to let my hair breath and wore it out, natural. The temp in the office (older white lady) "wow what happened to your hair?" "ummm this is my natural hair" "wow it's so wild and woolly"....I think ya'll can guess the face I gave her
I’m the only black person in my public speaking class. I decided to educate them on the braided hair styles. I made sure I told them that Bo Derik did not started the style. Moun blan ooo 🤦🏾♀️
right!! like I live in america but I am originally from kenya and everytime we go home, my mo buys literally a whole luggage full of hair pieces, she reserves one just for them.
Very clueless person needs to be like the one the one couple who adopted a little black girl. The dad took braiding lessons from an African American hair shop and the mom asked an African American lady in the store for hair product advice.
As a child, I had very long straight hair. My grandmother lived in a black neighborhood that had lots of other children to play with. I was different, but a few of the girls befriended me anyway. We were so young, honesty came easily. We were fascinated with each other's hair. They would try to fix my hair like theirs (I have always wanted curly hair) and it would look like a floppy mess, but we had fun. After some of the older girls saw them regularly playing with me, they were told they weren't allowed to be my friend anymore. I remember sitting on my grandma's stoop and crying when they would pass, I didn't understand. That was when I started begging my mother for a perm and trying to get my skin to darken in the sun. Now in my 40s, I embrace my silky hair and pale skin. If someone doesn't want to be my friend because of how I look, it's their loss (cause I'm a pretty cool gal just the way I am).
Bro every time I took out my braids one of my teachers would be like "oh you took out your hair...I like it,bit what happened to it???" I would be like you just answered you own question like why are you asking that??

@@Marie-rb2vy that's really unusual to me. I understand if it is a DRASTIC change like someone with really long hair who came in with a pixie cut. But a basic hairstyle, no. Where I come from, girls change their hairstyle every day (all the girls, black, white, asian, latina etc - even the girl with short hair changes it up every once in a while). We say "Your hair looks cute today" but never "Why did you change your hair?" That's equivalent to "Why did you change your clothes?"
I grew up around all kinds of people, so my world view is a bit bigger than some, and even if I don't know all there is to know about black hair, at least I know not to touch it 😑 that part made me cringe so bad! One of my white friends tried to do this to my coworker who was black and I had to stop her and apologize to my coworker. It baffled me that she truly didn't see what she was doing wrong.
Coffee Time, I walked into my doctor's office one day and there was this older white lady checking in at the front desk, when I walked up she turned and looked at me, stunned-looking, she asked me, "Is that your hair, can I touch it?" I had my hair in a puff like this young lady, I didn't mind her asking me if it were my hair, but I do not like for anyone to put their hands in my hair, Black or White. Most people just curious what if feels like I'll be honest I wanna touch a big fro I ain't gonna lie friend of mine had a big one always had to fight the urge to touch it I don't know if it's true but Heard your hair is really brittle and really hard to get it that long idk
@@bakedjesus1177 thank you for your honesty. It just feels like hair. It is just really curly hair. If you take care of it, it's soft. If you don't, it is dry or rough. The strands tend to be thinner, so it can be fragile and like most curly hair, it tends to get frizzy. As a hair and make up artist I can tell you that most hair basically is the same. You treat it basically the same, except for styling. If your friend is really close, it might be OK to ask. The biggest problem is people touching you. Strangers should not just walk up and pet you like a puppy. Curiosity makes people feel more "other". As a woman with ample bussom people are, including women, curious. I prefer that people don't touch those either. 😉 It's usually OK if you ask someone you know, just don't walk up and grab someone. 😊
I'm a redhead and people touch my hair all the time. Mostly women and old people. It pisses me off. Like, I'm not a cute dog to pet.... or a curiosity out of a zoo. I get also get the "is it real hair" trope black people are subjected to. People asking me if it was my real color (or the not so subtle "does the carpet match the drapes" question) drove me so mad once that I removed my shirt to show my chest hair while shouting/ranting... not my proudest moment, but I was so exasperated that I didn't think, and it was a really bad day...
Black people hair produce barely to no oil So because of that they're hair doesn't get get dirty for a lonnnng time other then the products they add for moisture that builds up

I hate that. I really do.. You black (brown) girls are beautiful, your hairstyles are beautiful, I wish I could try it on my mixed cousins, but sadly I'm hours away from them. I sometimes wish I was black so I could do those styles, I mean my hair isn't straight, it's curly but I wouldn't be able to do those. Don't listen to them, you black girls are beautiful, so is every race😊
I’m black and Puerto Rican but I was raised black and I would wear things like wraps and durags and bonnets. I remember earlier this year I wore a wrap to school cause I like the way it looks and my religion teacher pulled me out after class and told me not to wear it to school anymore and I was like no, just no absolutely not. This is a part of my style. She then told me that she likes them but she doesn’t want me to wear them anymore. My reaction was so shocked and disappointed. All of my friends are Dominican and Puerto Rican so when I told them they all agreed with me cause she definitely went out of line with that mess. And she’s white like the rest of my teachers. Also when I went to sleep away camp with my school she was the director and she called out one of the seventh graders who is black and said “she be rocking that weave 24/7” and EVERYONE at camp was like OOOOOOOOOO my entire school is Spanish so they all understood that as an insult. But she didn’t mean it that way. There’s so much more to the story but I don’t feel like typing it lol

Karrington Xo yes definitely, in Europe we have plaits which are not directly connected to the scalp, which apparently originated from Scandinavia, but I do believe that braids did originate from Africa.
Had an Asian lady tug at my hair once and asked if it was real, shes lucky I had a job. Had a white lady ask me If my hair was real, although she knew the answer to the question, it seemed like she just wanted to here me say it wasn't real. Come on! In high school, I had a friend who had dreadlocks (she still has them to this day). So one time, me and my group of friends were sitting down at lunch when my friend, let's call her A, was casually playing with my friend's dreadlocks when another girl goes "Ew, don't touch her hair A! It's all dirty and old and nasty!" If I said we were furious at her, that would be an understatement. 😤😡
It's shed hair that has formed together sometimes there's lint in it, dirt, and products from years ago in there. Washing them doesn't get everything out. Have you seen them use acv the water would be brown or black. I'm not saying that people with dreads are dirty I'm just saying that their hair is
I'll be honest, I know very little about how they make different styles.... But even when I was young, I knew what comments and questions came off as rude. Is it really that hard to be a decent human being??
Y'all idk who's reading these comments a year later but this video reminded me about why I started my natural hair journey and 😤 I have a book for you to read down below😂... When I was 14 (20 now) I started wearing my hair natural and I was really insecure with it but I couldn't take it anymore because was just so damaged from straightening it every day. So I was walking around my local mall with my mom and sister (lighter skin than me can pass for white, I'm mixed: black and Spanish (European Union)) and we walked by this hair straightening kiosk, the woman at the kiosk was handing out some cream to help perm your hair and she saw me and sat me down to test out a new straightener and I kept saying no constantly but she almost forced me into the chair (my mom wasn't around, so just my younger sister and I sitting by ourselves minding our own business) she then proceeded to straighten a little piece of my hair along with giving me a really bad sales pitch (my sister and i looked older than we actually were at the time) when she was done I told her "no thank you, I had been straightening my hair every day since I was 9 and I'm trying to let it grow out and be healthy, to make it look pretty when I'm older" she then said with hand motion to follow "Well don't you wanna do something about all.... that?" Right when she said that my little sister popped up and was about to cuss her out but I stopped her and before she could get anything out of her mouth I said "I'm 14 and trying to find myself, it's not a good idea to in force your idea of beauty on me because my hair is different than yours, I have been bullied about my hair since I was 9 and don't need to listen to people like you who don't know what I have to deal with to tell me who I need to be anymore" Her jaw was on the floor and when we told my mom she was livid
I'm caucasian to the point that printer/copier paper has more of a tan than me. However, when I shampooed and conditioned my hair everyday it resembled something called a 'brillo pad', which is like a scourer.
I SWEAR TO GOD THIS WAS ME IN THE 5TH GRADE and the lil white girl said THE EXAAACT SAME THING CALLING IT DIRTY....another white teacher had to school her SMH

SAME! I do like twice a week .. lmfao. My gets gets super fluffy and out of control after shampooing, and it looks the best 2-3 days after a wash, IMO. Also, no one I know shampoos their hair daily..
this shit happens to me everyday like back the fuck OFFFF! how many times do i have to tell people to not touch my hair and that it took 5 hours to braid??? all of these situations are too accurate.
Im irish and cherokee with thick curly hair and everyone wants to touch it. I think its when its big and curly it gives a soft and round appearance, which is generally a cute shape. This may explain the thing with wanting to touch it.
Omg fucking same. White chick here, but I've got curly locks and they just want to run their fingers through it. I do a full on limbo move swerving that. "Why don't you brush it?"😑 Everyone's hair is different but I'd rather know what's going on with other people.
I am half Black and half Mexican and white girls still come up to me asking dum questions about my curly hair! One day I had my bangs styled kinda like Aaliyah's with one big chunk of bangs parted to the side over my face. Instead of it being poker straight I set my bangs as one giant ringlet to keep it out of my eyes. Some random white girl came up to me no greeting or acknowledgement and just blurted out is that a dreadlock!? I was taken back because she sounded flustered like she couldn't believe it. I simply told her I wetset my hair, no locks. She then asked me if she could touch it. I told her yes trying to be nice, but she grabs it and started trying to undo the curl, but it jus made more curls. She walked away just as abruptly as she walked up. After that experience I have never let anyone touch me again. I am not an animal at a zoo. Way before that a manager at one of my old jobs asked me if he could touch my face, because he has never touched black people's skin before. He then reached out one finger like ET phoning home and touched my cheek. He was shocked he said, "your so soft!?" like he expected me to be rough and tough or something. He made me feel like I was an alien. Never again I say. Never again.
@@skylightvelore7883 yeah now that I think back to that memory that manager went as far to rubb his finger on my face like he was tryna see if my color would change like I'm some dam mood ring.. ugh I haven't thought about these instances until I watched these videos and remembered how outlandish some people's children are..
A girl asked my friend who had extensions “ how do you wash ur hair ?” And she explained that she takes it out and washes normally and then the girl said” ok so after you wash it do you put the same braids back in?” And I was just 🌚 I thought the question was silly but I’m glad she actually wants to learn more about our culture.
Kez When we wash our hair we take them out And then we change our hairstyle. If you wash your hair while the braids are still in your hair is going to shrink and floof up in the braids which is why it’s not recommended to swim with braids in if u don’t have a cap or aren’t going to take them out the next day.
I’m a white girl and the only time I’ve every touched someone’s hair was when I asked my friend of 2 years if I could and if she was should it was ok, because I didn’t want to annoy her.

I’m dating a black man and my favorite thing to do for him is de-tangling his hair and making it look good after he slept on it. I even made him stop washing his hair everyday because even as a white-native girl I don’t wash my hair everyday. It’s kinda common sense I feel like. But then again some people have no common sense at all. Love your channel I’ve been binge watching all week😂❤️

Very nice.

Coffee Time smh that’s insane man.
I wasn't rude to her, I just simply smile and said, "No."
@@barbarapeller I just don't understand why some people would do that or even ask. I wouldn't want a stranger putting their hands in my hair so I don't get how other people think it's okay to do that. Its common sense. I'm sorry black men and women have to deal with this daily.

She dropped her hand and her head. She looked up at me apologetically and said "it's so pretty"
I will never forget her. She was so respectful. It had never considered that she or anyone who grabbed my hair though it was pretty. 🤭
Yep. People sometimes are just curious and forget themselves.
It's usually OK if you ask someone you know, just don't walk up and grab someone.

I feel like every continent has its own history with braids, but African people created some beautiful styles of braid.
Same
It's fine to "feel" want you want, but I encourage you to do your research on where it ORIGINATED. 😌
Karrington Xo yes definitely, in Europe we have plaits which are not directly connected to the scalp, which apparently originated from Scandinavia, but I do believe that braids did originate from Africa.
I’m pretty sure we can all safely assume that the FIRST people on earth invented the first set of braids. 😂

Had an Asian lady tug at my hair once and asked if it was real, shes lucky I had a job. Had a white lady ask me If my hair was real, although she knew the answer to the question, it seemed like she just wanted to here me say it wasn't real. Come on! Like they were long braids going waist length down my back, really! They saw me with my natural hair the week before! It just makes them feel better when they know your hair really isn't that long.
Whenever I am asked is that real, i say yes and when the strange look i tell them well it's not a virtual world i live in how bout you?
I can relate, black people ask if my hair is real all the time

In high school, I had a friend who had dreadlocks (she still has them to this day). So one time, me and my group of friends were sitting down at lunch when my friend, let's call her A, was casually playing with my friend's dreadlocks when another girl goes "Ew, don't touch her hair A! It's all dirty and old and nasty!" If I said we were furious at her, that would be an understatement. 😤😡
I can't for the life of me understand the old part.
It's shed hair that has formed together sometimes there's lint in it, dirt, and products from years ago in there. Washing them doesn't get everything out. Have you seen them use acv the water would be brown or black. I'm not saying that people with dreads are dirty I'm just saying that their hair is
Mordecai The girl doesn't know anything, the dreadlocks was probably more clean than her own hair. smh.

I'll be honest, I know very little about how they make different styles....

So I was walking around my local mall with my mom and sister (lighter skin than me can pass for white, I'm mixed: black and Spanish (European Union)) and we walked by this hair straightening kiosk, the woman at the kiosk was handing out some cream to help perm your hair and she saw me and sat me down to test out a new straightener and I kept saying no constantly but she almost forced me into the chair (my mom wasn't around, so just my younger sister and I sitting by ourselves minding our own business) she then proceeded to straighten a little piece of my hair along with giving me a really bad sales pitch (my sister and i looked older than we actually were at the time) when she was done I told her "no thank you, I had been straightening my hair every day since I was 9 and I'm trying to let it grow out and be healthy, to make it look pretty when I'm older" she then said with hand motion to follow "Well don't you wanna do something about all.... that?"
Right when she said that my little sister popped up and was about to cuss her out but I stopped her and before she could get anything out of her mouth I said
"I'm 14 and trying to find myself, it's not a good idea to in force your idea of beauty on me because my hair is different than yours, I have been bullied about my hair since I was 9 and don't need to listen to people like you who don't know what I have to deal with to tell me who I need to be anymore"
Her jaw was on the floor and when we told my mom she was livid
Girl if we shampooed our hair everyday our hair be looking like straw. We need to keep these natural oils. Quit playing 🤣🤣
Indie Robbins don’t let be the day where the nurse has to the class and check the nonblack kids head for lice, but didn’t mostly check the black kids cause most of them had braids or a perm.

I'm Asian and as far as i know most of us Asians don't shampoo our hair everyday 👍
Drαgσn Ғrʋιt yeah also it’s annoying to wash everyday
I shampoo my hair once a week
this shit happens to me everyday like back the fuck OFFFF! how many times do i have to tell people to not touch my hair and that it took 5 hours to braid??? all of these situations are too accurate.
Oh my that is shocking
@@skylightvelore7883 yeah now that I think back to that memory that manager went as far to rubb his finger on my face like he was tryna see if my color would change like I'm some dam mood ring.. ugh I haven't thought about these instances until I watched these videos and remembered how outlandish some people's children are..
What is wrong with those people😬😒
A girl asked my friend who had extensions “ how do you wash ur hair ?” And she explained that she takes it out and washes normally and then the girl said” ok so after you wash it do you put the same braids back in?” And I was just 🌚 I thought the question was silly but I’m glad she actually wants to learn more about our culture.
I would do the same, especially if I found the hair specifically, and the style, to be stunning and their personality matched.
Yeah but I'm actually curious. Do black girls wash their hair if they like those braids in?
Kez yes
Kez When we wash our hair we take them out And then we change our hairstyle. If you wash your hair while the braids are still in your hair is going to shrink and floof up in the braids which is why it’s not recommended to swim with braids in if u don’t have a cap or aren’t going to take them out the next day.
@@Usthereout it depends on the style

I’m a white girl and the only time I’ve every touched someone’s hair was when I asked my friend of 2 years if I could and if she was should it was ok, because I didn’t want to annoy her.
kitty304 Of course, because you’re a normal person. I’m white and would never touch someone’s hair... ever. It would never even occur to me to do that.
