I wish they did 😅😍 Jokes aside, I just love doing what I do, being creative and showing what I'm passionate about. But it is quite a bit of work until the final video is ready - thank you for recognizing the work that goes into each video. I really appreciate you following along, thank you!!
Good Morning Elli, sorry to say I have no memories of this Hike as I have not hiked it..... yet. I will see how the terrain is as you hike and maybe I will try it next year 2025, I am getting very bored just sitting at home and long to get out on the Hills again. Tony in Essex, England.
Big shout out from a half Scottish - German family residing in Kempten. Our Scottish base is in Blairgowrie and we walk the Cairngorms a lot with our kids. Especially our 12 year old, Elaine, is enjoying your content a lot. She was majorly excited to find your entry in the guestbook of the red house bothy near Geldie burn as we walked over from Glen Feshie. The kids did a third of the Cape Wrath trail last year and might finish it next year. I personally found inspiration in you and Otto walk the length of Britain - something I always wanted, but being self-employed struggle to find time for. So I talked myself into at least doing the Scottish national trail next year :) I am very much looking forward for more of your warm and emotional content we all enjoy a a lot. Cheers, Alistair, Elaine, Alison & Christoph
Oh Elli, I know those first day or two anxieties only too well! And you have nothing to prove re campsites - you did the TGO Challenge and the Cape Wrath trail - hardcore!! 💪 (And nothing to prove even if you hadnt!) Great to see Otto recovered well and I look forward to seeing the next part of your adventure😊
Hi Elli, really enjoyed your first video of hiking the Cumbria Way. Glad Otto is fully recovered. I ran the Cumbria way a few weeks ago, even though I live in Western Lake District, I had never done the full route. 🙃 I've enjoyed your video becouse I spend most my time looking at my feet when trail running. Maybe you can you hike the Cape Wrath Trail? I ran it over 6 days (400 km) and I would love to see you and Otto do the route. Its a fabulous route.
Thank you so much for the kind words, really happy that you’ve enjoyed the video! It really is a great hike :) The Cape Wrath Trail is very very high up my bucket list and I’ve ticked off sections here and there with Otto last year and this year on my TGOC and know that I would absolutely love it, but tbh I don’t think I would attempt the whole trail in one go with Otto. Doesn’t feel sensible for me to do it with him…. If the weather is great and it’s dry(ish), it would be definitely doable with Otto, but since you can’t obviously be sure of that, I don’t think I would attempt it with Otto. River crossings, deep boggy sections etc. are too tough for him and too hard for me if I have to carry/lift him more often…. So well done for doing it over 6 days, that’s incredible :)
Looking forward to watching this. My daughter (will be 14) and I are planning on walking this next summer. She's recently done her 1st multiday hike, the Herriot Way, and well and truely has the bug!
Ohhh, that's so cool! It really is a great way to see some beautiful areas of the Lake District and you could easily add Wainwrights etc. to the route to see even more :) Thank you so much for following along!
Hi, we live on the coast of West Cumbria and wish we had known you were going to take on this walk. If you ever come this way again, we would be happy to help with food or gear drop. We really enjoyed your video. All the best, Pete and Julie, Maryport.
'Wild and tamed at the same time'. Perfect description Elli, of an area I know well from my mother's side. Our old family home was in Silloth NW of Cockermouth. So happy Otto is better. X
Aww, thank you so so much! I really appreciate you following along and I'm so glad that you've been enjoying the videos! The area ist just stunning, it must be amazing living there 😍
hahahaha, true :) I probably shouldn't have be that surprised, but omg was it wet there in August 😅 We had some very beautiful days too, but when it rained, it seemed to just never stop 😂
Oh my goodness what a start to this hike. You made the right decision to go back to the start and give it a while to see how Otto recovered. We have walked in the Lake District extensively over many years so we are so keen to see how you get on with this one. Though the rainfall is obviously a concern near the end of this video, we had the same situation last year and almost couldn’t film our walks. Looking forward to the next one. Regards, Selina & Tim
What I find interesting is that with all your adventures over here you probably know more about this country than I and 90% of the people that live here 😂 Your English is excellent, you actually like this country, in my opinion your as English as I am, and I was born here 😂😂
Another well made video Elli, you could see in your face how you felt over Otto poor little boy. But as always follow your gut is the best way . Great to see the lake District such a beautiful magical place which I love hiking . Take care both 🌷
Just discovered your channel and love your videos your voice is very soothing and the videography is great, I’ve subscribed and the lakes is my favourite place here in the UK I live about 2hrs from there
Aww, thank you so much! Really happy that you found your way to the channel and that you're enjoying the videos :) It really is an incredibly beautiful area, I loved it there!
Hello Elli. I really like your pot cosy. Such a good idea. I'm going to copy that as soon as I purchase a Titanium pot. Time for me to start hiking now - after being so inspired by yourself and your videos. It might be only a few miles a day but that is all I might be able to manage at this time. One has to start somewhere! Good luck to you and Otto. Kind regards - M.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm so happy that I can inspire you a bit :) It's so great to get out hiking, no matter the distance :) You following along really means a lot, thank you!
I'm so happy to see you both. Awwww, I hope Otto will feel better soon 🙏I live not too far from the Lake district . You both always cheer me up❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great to see you and Otto hiking back together (despite the starting hiccup ⛺️ 🐕 🚌 ) Always look forward to your adventures Elli. The Lakes are very different from your Scottish treks. The Cumbrian landscape is more intimate with a lot of variations in a very picturesque part of England. Thank you once again for sharing 👍🏻
This is really lovely to watch Elli... I went to the lake district when I was a child and haven't made it since... so really excited to see it from your perspective 👌🙏. Glad Otto is on the mend 🐾. Can't wait for the next chapter... happy hiking 🥰🤗😘
Always enjoy your videos Elli. I did Ulverston to Great Langdale as a "hair of the dog" hike to recover from Coast to Coast withdrawal symptoms. That first day is tougher and slower than you imagine it's going to be. I wanted to go to Keswick but the weather intervened in Langdale and I diverted to Windermere and bailed out.
Aww, thank you! I really appreciate the kind words and you following along. I actually almost bailed from Langdale too but after that rough/unexpected start, I was too stubborn and didn't want to stop again after just 1 day, so I pushed through - but it was very wet 😅🙈
@@ellihikes You're welcome. Thank you for the work you put into your videos. Your friendly, smiling exterior certainly hides a very tough lady underneath. "Hut ab" for making it through Langstrath that day.
Welcome to the Lakes ! I've spent so many days in Great Langdale, it's so beautiful (especially when it's not raining 😂). Would have loved you to have seen Blea Tarn which is just above the campsite between Great & Little Langdale, one of the most gorgeous spots you could ever visit. Little Otto is a star, and you absolutely did the right thing going back to Ulverston to let him recover. You are such a good partnership. Looking forward to your next day over Stake Pass & along Langstrath & Borrowdale. I did quite a few walks there this summer xx
Thank you so much for following along and always leaving kind comments, that means a lot! With the weather not being too great when I was in Langdale, I didn't do any "side trips", which I would have loveed to do. But I've heard and read so much about so many cool places in the Lake District, and after I've been to the area now, I just want to explore more and see more of it - already planning my next "bigger" project in the Lakes just because I loved it so much :)
Nice to see you back out again, we both enjoy your videos. We did this trail a few years back and really enjoyed it. Must do it again soon, looking forward to part 2 :)>
You definitely made the right decisions! You captured the beauty of Langdale really well but its rough and wild further up the valley and can feel v remote. Hopefully you didn’t drown in part 2!
It really is a stunning place and I actually returned with my car for a couple of rest days after we finished the Cumbria Way... And also because I didn't see that much of the more wild and remote area around Stake Pass due to some very wet weather (in part 2)😅🙈
@@ellihikes Glad you returned and hopefully enjoyed the area. It would be great if you did some more Lake District trips - there’s so many multi-day hikes the options are almost endless. So much to see and explore in a relatively small area.
@@mikebrown32 yes, it’s definitely an area I want to return to next year, especially since I had to cut some hikes short due and even cancel to some really bad weather in August! But I will be back to explore it a bit more :)
Great Langdale is such a beautiful part of the Lake District, maybe even better in the rain. That campsite can definitely get a little floody in heavy rain, I know from experience :S. In your footage you could see the dark grey clouds moving over the mountains at a really high speed, I bet it was insanely windy up high you made the right decision 100%.
I always enjoy your exploits Elli, but the tape worm treatment side effects are a cause of concern. Otto is so very important to you, and I'm sure that you will make the right decisions regarding that. I've paused the video at this stage because, for myself in your position I would probaby be ultra cautious and make a few telephone calls for advice, before continuing. I'm hoping that when I continue your worries will have been sorted. Sheffield South Yorkshire. PS Yes, I see that you have made the right decision. Good lass ! And I see that he's better now. So pleased for both of you . Off we go !
Yes, unfortunately, I have quite a lot of experience with these issues with Otto. He used to have a lot of digestion issues when I first adopted him, so after a lot of vet visits etc. I now know how to deal with it and feel quite confident in managing these situations. Luckily, the issues have disappeared completely apart from the occasional hiccup... the tapeworm treatment (mandatory for entering the UK) is quite a strong chemical, so side effects are very common with it.... thank you for following along 😊
Another lovely vlog Elli. Glad Otto recovered. I used to climb a lot in the Lakes going back 20 to 30 years. I think I would find it too busy now. Even areas around where I live (near the highland boundary) are getting too busy. That's the down side to making areas national parks I guess - creates honey pots. Or maybe its just social media.
Thank you so much for following along and thank you for sharing :) It definitely was a bit more busy than what I'm normally used to, but I expected that because of the holidays. It wasn't too crowded though as soon as I got away from the "hot spots" and villages. But still I would prefer to go in spring or later autumn when there's fewer people outside the holidays :)
Thank you so so much, I really appreciate you following along! Hahaha, definitely been on a few trips this year, but not driving over for each one - mostly staying in the UK for a few weeks at a time to do a couple of hikes while I'm over there :)
I find your and others concern about cows interesting. Being a Yank I have hiked among cows many times over the last forty years and have found the to be extremely curious. They will follow you quite often, occasionally you may have to shoo them a bit just walk along and when they come your way at run face them and shoo. If they just follow enjoy. If there is a bull in the field go around.
I hike through cattle fields in Germany and Austria too without ever having any issues or even cows coming near us. I don't know why but cows in the UK seem to bit more curious often times (especially in more remote parts where they are not used to people walking through all the time) and more likely to follow and sometimes not easy to shoo away. Even though I know they are just being inquisitive, it's still a bit scary if they come really close or jumping around. They aren't aggressive of course, but they can easily just knock you over by accident.... If there's a bull in a field, I also try to go around, but that's not always possible unfortunately (no right of way, adjacent fields being closed with barbe wire etc. or completely overgrown or just too long of a detour). It doesn't stop me from hiking and you get used to it but I'm still a bit wary of them 😅
I love Otto being up for anything. Driving 900 km? Ok. Hiking 70 miles? Let's go ))) Even when he's not feeling his best, such a trooper. Wanted to ask, what car do you have and do you fit comfortably to sleep in the back? Thinking of sleeping in mine, but it seems to be too short for me to lay stretched
Hahahaha, yes - he's up for anything and really enjoys being in different places, having new smells etc. :) My car is a Dacia Lodgy, not particularly long I think, but it's more of a box shape (roof is kind of flat and has the same height and width even in the back) which makes it ideal for sleeping in it because the area behind the front seats is basically rectangular. It fits a 120cm*190cm mattress which is plenty of space :)
Great adventure 👍🙂
Thank you :)
