I’m so glad they’re all collaborating. Been been watching hunter’s, top class, h2o AND RTE. Should throw Tony’s and Details in the mix. They seem like really solid guys
I’ve spent 5 hour full detailing and he wanted hand wax so I did it I went as low as $350 he offered $ 100 we went back and forth and he ended up giving $150 I took it because I was just staring and he was a one of the first customers I was afraid because he was related to a customer that had 3 cars so from now on I negotiate the price before I start I recommend any extra work and if they agree I do it sometimes I do a little extra but it’s on my own! Thanks for sharing your experience with us
Most pro detailers I know would not release the car to the owner until they pay. I have seen that happen at my buddies shop here in Florida. The guy said he wasn’t paying so he kept his car until the full payment was rendered. You have enough great ratings where taken this guy to court would have been worth it but I get why you didn’t.
From an old guy in Chicago, you three compose yourself very well and present professionalism in your own words. Well done guys. Road trip to Illinois and we can work on my cars. Continued Success
This is why I got Zippity and started using the Multi Point Inspection tool. I’m not leaving anything to chance anymore. I’ve have plenty of experiences where It’s my word versus the client’s, where I’ve had to forfeit time and money. I love detailing and my business wouldn’t survive if I let people walk all over me. Thanks for sharing, Hunter! It sucks what happened to you and your employee, but we learn to use our tools to prevent and protect ourselves. Much Love from SoCal!
Yeah, that's a mechanic's lien plain and simple. Here at our shop we've never had a payment issue. We would hold the vehicle against payment and file a lien against the property. Depending upon how long ago it's been, and your local laws you might still be able to put a lien against the title.
@@jujubeesknees4498 yeah because i heard a mechanic did all this work on a fox body and they never payed for it after so long and just like that the mechanic got the car
i think i personally gave off that attitude a few times in my life where I was just having a bad day and anything someone did would just annoy me. props to you guys and you business brothaaaaa.
Glad to see a sac town dude pushing it. I’m just looking into the detail stuff and man, people that say you’re over charging or that you’re expensive, don’t know the struggle and how hard it is on your body and how time consuming it is. I started with just engine details and that alone ain’t no walk in the park. Keep grinding my man!
Great advice, always keep your cool because you never know who's recording you these days. Having some sort of contract in place, whether digital or hard copy, could be a good thing to have in place for those customers who don't want to pay.
I feel like yall are my dudes and I don't even know ya lol... Keep on the grind fellas. Much love from New Orleans. The only advise I can give is to keep it simple. Find what works for you and use it. Try not to overthink things. It's only detailing.
After having a conversation or message I always send them an invoice and I let them know that I’m sending it for approval. This would have prevented the snare you walked into.
I had no idea you are in the Sacramento area... I live in the Roseville area and have been watching your videos for a while. It's great to see the success you are having!
They (the customers) need to appreciate what you do for them....because your doing them a service and your good at It. If it wasnt for you guys their car would look like a mess.
In Hunter's Detailing first example, I'd have got the shit out of the Mightee extractor and poured it over the carpets and seats, and emptied the rest over his nice clean paint.
We used to do verbal agreements for 17 years. For the past 7 years we will only provide service with a signed contract agreeing to scope of work and price.
Lesson here is always do a contract or a estimated quote. Always attempt to call the customer or leave a message if you feel like it ain't going to work out with a crappy customer.
I remember a couple came in for a full detail they were really chill when they dropped it off n i spent all day and when they came to pick it they immediately started with " oh we paying for this " and they havent even looked at it and the car was destroyed before and it looked new again and they called my boss complaining so he told him dont worry its free... man i lost it cus they totally got us and i busted my ass off 🤦♂️

I am a detailer in south Florida. I feel the struggle on this , definitely frustrating expecting the person to be able to pay the price and they don't even give you a fraction of it and disrespect you while doing it. My main thing is ceramic coatings and paint correction. I like to make it clear as day the price before business starts especially since all the jobs are 500-1000$+ jobs I don't want to have a disagreement on a number like that after the work is done. Because im so clear on it ive never had an issue so far. if the work was more than you expected you should have probably stopped the job completly and been like look sir this is going to be an upcharge etc. keep up the good work brotha
Man I was getting heated just listening to this. I think I would have taken the same route you did. At first I was thinking he was calling your bluff and maybe send them court papers anyways. Make him sweat it a bit. Keep doing what you’re doing champ. I don’t detail but watch your channel just for the business aspects.
First story: you messed up big time. I do electrical and I always let them know ahead of time. Make sure you have some proof as well, even a text message. Then if they try to be cheap goto court and charge higher for lawyer fees.
If that's the worst of the worst y'all, you guys gotta thank your golden stars. I have dealt with so many irate and unmovable customers over the years that I would be willing to work in airport customer service. As long as I know what my full range of options are to resolve the possible conflict, I am as cool as an Arctic penguin CONSISTENTLY. I have been punched/attacked, stalked, threatened and a victim of gross libel. People can be ugly whenever money is involved especially. But I can't find a job capable of supporting me right now bc of disability on the back of abuse I received doing the job. Ironic huh? lol
My worst customer when I was selling new cars, I would regularly go above and beyond. I had one guy come in and test drive 4 cars over like 2 or 3 days, I took each car to his home to see how it fit in garage and a heap of stuff, not just a quick lap around the block. I gave him my price and he went home and called another dealer, told them my price and the other dealer gave him an extra $100 off a $30,000 car and he bought it off them. I asked him what I could have done better, or what set them apart, he said nothing, I just called them and they said they would do it $100 less so I bought it. He then came in to give me a bottle of $10 wine to say thank you for a great experience and it was so hard not to lose my shit and be like, man, that doesn't put food on my table, why would you put me through all that and not at least ask if I can match the price why have someone give you all that service and go elsewhere over $100 on a $30,000 purchase with someone you've never spoke to. I did all the work for the other dealer.
I would absolutely record ANY verbal agreements like that first story! Also, I would have hit him with the "We are not a car washing service: we are detailers and your looking at a cost of around $1100-?? dollars...are you prepared for a bill like that"? That would have softened the blow on his end a bit, and warned him what to expect. Also, get it in writing wherever possible. Can detailers do "Mechanics Liens" on non-payers? I could see a jerk like that calling the cops and them making you give him the keys with minimal payment. Cant sell or trade the car if there is a mechanics lien on it. One way or the other....you get paid!
Luckily I have never had to deal with this, always take the keys and don’t release them until they pay. Turn it on them to threaten court action. Almost Nobody is going to actually go through with taking you to small claims and if they do you’ll probably win the case anyways
You could have sent it to collections there was no need to handle it through court.. theres collection agency that will take the remainder balance of what the customers owe and will go after them for not paying it while you ate stress free about it.
Taking them to court would have been a waste of your $$ time...if you win, you still have to go after them for payment because the court won't make them pay the judgement. You have the experience to look at a detailing job and know how much time and product you will need to complete the job. Unless, you just had pictures to go by. Whatever the case, this should have never happened to you or anyone with sufficient experience. I think that the idea of a "blank check" was too good for you to pass up. Next time, quote your price before you begin, and ask for a text confirmation.
