Bro that lyric “Invisible smoke” really hits me. I just imagine being alone and in the dark and suffocating all around u because ur choking on ur own tears
MAXIMUS I can relate SO MUCH to this song right now. You nailed the “invisible smoke” part. The feeling of trying to force a smile and hide your tears feels so heavy and truly makes you feel like you’re choking. She is brilliant at describing some of the most intangible feelings that are so hard to describe and she does it effortlessly.
She's talking about herself .... This song is about anxiety and depression and loosing confident and start asking who you really are She said : - they see right through me ( they hate me) _ you see right through me ( you hate me ) _ I see right through me ( I hate myself ) And I hated my reflection for years and years
She is talking about herself. She is also talking about how the way she treats other people comes back to haunt her. “I cut off my nose to spite my face” is a saying about a reaction to something that is self destructive. It’s usually a reaction intended to hurt someone else. And that’s why she hates her reflection for years and years, she regrets the way she acted because in the end it only ended up hurting herself.
Lostgirl47 yes. I think most of the song was about self reflection but also about other people. She is definitely talking about other ppl since she says “you could stay” so we know the whole thing isn’t about herself but more about relationships with others (of course, it’s taylor swift!)
when she says "who could ever leave me?" because look at her, she looks one of the most perfect humans in life, and then she says "who could stay?" because after knowing the real her and being able to see her "dark side" barely no one stand out for her
"And all at once you are the one that I've been waiting for, *king* of my heart" "All the *king's* horses, all the *king's* men couldn't put me together again" Being loved by someone doesn't mean it's easy to love yourself...
This song ended this way to reflect the shot of an archer. The song constantly builds up like a bow being drawn, until the arrow is released and the first shots been fired.
I think the chorus where she sings “Who could ever leave me, darling ,but who could say” is so interesting. “who could ever leave me” - when she is the archer, she is confident in herself, thinking so highly of herself that she can’t believe anyone would ever dare to leave her. However, when she’s the prey, she thinks exactly the opposite - who would ever want to stay with someone like her? Just another example of Taylor’s supreme lyricism.
I think this relates so much with Blank Space. Like in her grammy's listening, she says: oh she is so amazing, she can get them all. But then, they runnaway cause she is so crazy... It's kinda what some people used to think about her
As Taylor liked a fans opinion in tumblr, this song is more likely about Taylor mostly blaming herself for everything when she's alone and these anxieties that got mentioned in the song are cause of those feelings.
I agree with this so much. This song is so groundbreaking because it opens up so much of Taylor that we've never seen before. Like without diagnosing anything of course since we're not psychologists but DAMN she opened us up to social isolation and loneliness, bullying, body image and self esteem issues, (potential clinical) anxiety stemming from her interactions. For me this is basically how my life has gone these past few years and it's so heartbreaking, this is a song I never knew I needed and knowing Taylor feels similarly and has accomplished so much gives me more hope that I can do the same for myself. That's also one of the reasons why I'm such a fan of Ryan Reynolds, Chris Evans and RDJ as they've been so open about their respective anxiety disorders as well.
the song ends really unexpectedly and you keep wainting for a beatdrop in the whole song, just like the relationship she talks about in the song, you expect a lot of things, but they never happen, instead they end unexpectedly. so when she asks if the one she is singing to will stay, this person probably left her.
I actually think the other way, like you're always waiting for the drop and she's always waiting for the person to leave. The drop never came, so my interpretation is that the person hasn't left?
you know when youtubers say on camera "Oh im going cry" or "Im crying" but no tears are falling at all.... so fake. BUT WHEN AJAY STARTED CRYING ... JUST CRY, ALL CRY.. her reactions are always genuine and honest thats why i love watching her videos
*"I search for your dark side, but what if I'm alright right here"* I personally think she means that she's trying to find something wrong with the person she's with/ her friend but she's fine in the confusion. It's like she's saying even though she doesn't know the certainty of it, she's fine with it. It's a direct contrast to some of her reputation love songs. SHE DID THAT
The part that gets me is "they see right through me, they see right through me I see right through me." it's so sad like she knows she's messed up but still wants to be loved
The archer is by far the best release so far from Lover! Everything about it from the production to the vocals to the lyrics is the embodiment of what I love about Taylor. Unfortunately because of the way record labels and tracking work, commercial emptyish pop songs are the first singles to come out for a new album most of the time. However, just because Taylor can make a somewhat mindless pop song like Me! does not mean she doesn’t still have some of the best writing ability in the game. I’m beyond excited for this album because I know it is full of more cuts like The Archer.
Ashley Hoblin i think Calm Down is important because she’s able to stand up for what she believes in. Her friends are her rock and you don’t cross her.
Scott Brynildsen it definitely is important! I just know a lot of people heard the two singles and thought they were just surface level catchy pop songs, even with the deeper meaning of YNCTD

*"But who could stay?"* That. That little line means so many things for someone that struggles with anxiety and self esteem like myself. "Who could ever leave me?" I might think in a good day. But there's always that little voice telling me "Who could stay?"... Beautiful song, my most streamed song of 2019.
This is one of the songs that made me immediately cry. I lost someone on the same day the song was released and it’s just so HEARTBREAKING AND EMOTIONAL All too well might be one of her best track 5s but this one is probably the most emotional and personal song she has ever released PERIODT
So far this is my favourite from Lover. The build up, the lyrics, the production - all amazing. You kind of get this feel of a heartbeat in that second verse then in all keeps building until that sudden cut off where the sound of it is to represent a bow being shot from an arrow. The song literally broke me, I was crying my eyes out especially when she says "I hate my reflection for years and years" because I have felt like that as well, especially with getting epilepsy caused by anxiety disorder when I was 17, like I did that to myself and it's a punishment I have for being so anxious when I was younger.

I love “The Archer” like the way that she is confronting her own emotions and own faults but wants to move forward really got me and THE PRODUCTIONNNNNN
Who else gets chills every time they hear in the background "I SEE RIGHT THROUGH ME, I SEE RIGHT THROUGH ME" and then it goes to "they see right through me", that part is sooooo goood
This song feels to me like Taylor is thinking that, she doesn't deserve to somebody love her. It's soo saad. 😭😭😭
this gives me 1989 vibes and IM HERE FOR IT
The production was by the amazing producer jack antonoff the same producer who produced melodrama!hence why you remembered it🤘🏼
Taylor co-produced the song :))
Mina Maras do you have to write this on every comment about jack? Giving him credit isn’t taking any of Taylor’s calm down
Mina Maras Taylor has enough credit, Jack deserves credit as well
Mina maras You need to calm down
I was waiting for this since the song was released
ME!
“It’s bringing back Melodrama memories”
You have an amazing ear cause Jack Antonoff, who co-wrote and produced Melodrama, produced this song too! He is a musical genius🔥
I really loved the song, i'm really excited for the album
Jack Antonoff was the producer for Melodrama and this song, thus the reminding of Lorde's Album. 💕
If ajay cries then you know it’s good!
"This is the first Taylor Swift song that makes me shed tears"
Ronan: "Am i a joke to u?"
Marcelo Frias I don’t think she’s heard it? I know this is a late reply. But it is Taylor’s saddest song if you know the context.
"And hate my reflection for years and years"
Ajay: That one broke me.
WE ALL DO. 💔💔💔
No wonder this reminded her of melodrama, this was also produced by Jack Antonoff, just like the whole melodrama album!! 😍❤️
Ajay crying over Humpty Dumpty and singing Humpty Dumpty made my day lmfaoo
She sings about her, imagine she is un front a mirror. She said that she hate her reflection
no one:
ajay: SCOOTER GIVE HER BACK HER GODDAMN MASTERS GODAMNIT!!!!!!!!
"All the king's horses, all the king's men
Couldn't put me together again
Cause all of my enemies
Started out friends
Help me hold on to you"
😭😭😭😭
Favorite lyrics: “all of my enemies started out friends” and “all of my heroes die all alone, help me hold on to you”
Speaking of Lana. Are you excited for her new album next month!?
Can we have a date? I wanna mark my calendar lol
Cartman's Cupcakes🍰 she just said “it’s coming out next month” she doesn’t give any info about it and that makes me mad
@@ldrfan6359 Oh, well... We get it when we get it lol
@@SailorNeptune938 Supposedly it's coming August 30 as per retailer stores
Cartman's Cupcakes🍰 I heard 30th August
U finally cry for Taylor song omg😂i never seen u cry for her 😂😂😂😂❤️❤️❤️❤️
You are the only person I have ever seen that is so in touch with your emotions and not afraid to show what you are feeling at any givin moment. And for that I love you.❤😊
Me 2
*"But who could stay?"*
That.
That little line means so many things for someone that struggles with anxiety and self esteem like myself.
"Who could ever leave me?" I might think in a good day.
But there's always that little voice telling me "Who could stay?"...
Beautiful song, my most streamed song of 2019.
i was watching some netlix show and the notification came i clicked soo faasst that i almost faal of the chair
Sarah angel Same! I was watching Stranger Things! Also, I love seeing another fellow Carebear on a non Carrie related UA-cam video :)

How does clicking a video fast make you fall.
@@psylymhidk7430 probably the excitement from the notification made her do that.
Hello kween, so glad you reacted to the depressed Sagittarius anthem.
Omg yes
Taylor's Jack Antonoff produced bops are the best tbh
Taylor co-produced the song ☺️
@@minamaras7325 yeah, i think she does that w all or almost all of her songs 😊
Getaway Car deserved to be a single! One of my faves. 🚗💨
Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper
And?
This is a masterpiece and one of most underrated songs of her discography
“melodrama memories” LORDE’S IMPACT 🗣
Melodrama Forever
Actually Jack antonoff's impact. He produced both this and melodrama
Lorde's impact was Pure Heroine
In a world full of trashbags be the trash itself Lorde’s impact is everything she touches
Guess i should listen to melodrama while waiting for lover
Kept hearing positive review from it
This is one of the songs that made me immediately cry. I lost someone on the same day the song was released and it’s just so HEARTBREAKING AND EMOTIONAL
All too well might be one of her best track 5s but this one is probably the most emotional and personal song she has ever released PERIODT
Sending you love 💞💞 hope you're okay x
1. Blonde by Frank Ocean
2. H.E.R. by H.E.R.
I think we finally deserve it.
Radovan Takac yeeeesss Blonde
She would be speechless cause it's pure ART but whatever..
Ella Mai by Ella Mai too
Exactly! But she already listened to Ella Mai album but didn't react to it. :/
H.E.R!!! Need a reaction to that album, it’s so good
So far this is my favourite from Lover.
It reminded you of Melodrama because both are produced by Jack Antonoff. Loved your reaction.
