Can't believe so much of this stuff has surfaced in the past month or so. I always imagine Donald and Walter incinerated the studio after every album to prevent leftovers. I guess they weren't as good at covering their tracks as I always assumed... Hope people keep this stuff coming!
IKR? It's like knowing what goes into the sausage. Except in this case, the sausage was SO good that when you find out you can learn what went into it, you just can't help yourself! ;-)
Having written features on the drummers of SD for Rythmn magazine , I am pretty sure this is Bernard Purdie. Sloppy first take, just getting a feel, better second take. This is wonderful. The final drum track was miles better. Have to send these to Jon Herington, he’ll love them.
@@Saltspicious Never heard that before. Care to share where you read that? (Not “challenging” you, just curious.) I’ve read everything I can find about Becker and Fagen’s process, and I’ve never seen that either of them ever said that the lyrics came first.
@@davebartholome2924 Sorry, that comment lacked any evidence. I’m not sure of their song writing methods, though the Walter Becker auctions of (last year?) gave us some insight into how they would get their lyrics. Kind Spirit is a good example of a song that lacks any lyrics and is pretty reminiscent of a Billy Joel demo.

@@richardbrucemusic ...real Steely Fans = sausage connoisseurs and they demand to know the QUALITY INGREDIENTS!
@@richardbrucemusic it makes the sausage taste 100x better
Definitely an uptick in dan takes, outtakes and demos in the last months. Im loving every one of them
Roger Nichols's daughter got a lot of SD memorabilia from her dad. I'm guessing it came from there, seeing as though Roger was in the thick of things
Nice quality. Chuck Rainey bringing it. Paul Griffin jazz/blues keys are marvelous.
Walter looking skeezy at the height of his dance with the dragon?
I guess it's the musical equivalent of seeing the family photo albums of the most fabulously beautiful model.
Like seeing the construction of the most beautiful yacht
Thanks! Please keep posting these amazing outtakes from this amazing album!
duffy I’ll keep em coming as long as “they’re” supplyin’!
Awesome. Along with Rush, Steely is the soundtrack of my life. Thank You
What a strange mix of taste that I also happen to share. Cheers to that.

Yeah it's purdie alright. You can hear him making funny sounds in the background.
Amazing. Keep ‘em coming!
What a great band
Or duo LOL
I think Fagen & Becker could write great tunes in their sleep
Fagen's piano playing really shines on some of the outtakes
@@Comakino Probably not Fagen though, Paul Griffin or someone else.
@@Comakino pretty sure that’s Paul Griffin on keys.
saltspicious...Another beauty, oh exalted Salty One! Thanks for uploading...
I assume this is just practice session material?
Sweet!
3:02 Hilarious how he just completely flubs the riff. Almost sounds cool.
So did they come up with the music first and the lyrics later?

@@static6OOONot sure who that is, but it is positively not Gary in the middle.
@@cosmai23 Yeah, you’re right. I don’t know why I thought it was him
