I absolutely fell in love with MIT the very first time I set foot on the campus, and I like the way this video captures the beauty of the institution (though nothing beats seeing it with your own eyes). As for everyone who has been wondering what the music was, the piece is Lanz: East of the Moon by David Lanz and Miles Bould.
I last watched this video in 2018 when I was in 11th grade, dreaming of studying Aerospace Engineering at MIT. I fell in love with this song and I would study all night with it for most time even in the following years in my A levels. It reminds me of just how much I passionately dreamt of studying at MIT/in the US generally. I have spent time looking for this song instead of starting to study, and I am happy I have finally found it! For a long time, I had convinced myself maybe it was deleted, but I knew its a very old video and I needed it for the song in the background. Fast - forward, I am now a Computer Science major and studying in the US, not MIT though. I am happy!
Good to hear from you. Am glad that all has worked out well with your chosen field - you just can't go wrong with Computer Science! Best of all, you are happy, something that is hugely important. Thanks for letting me know that you watched my video and liked the music selection.
You are in for a terrific trip. All the more if you like walking. When in Boston, you might want to see Beacon Hill. From there you can take the Harvard Bridge over the river; it comes in at the MIT campus. Both Harvard and MIT are in Cambridge.
Hello Wanda! I didn't notice that this was the video I had already remarked on.... I do look forward to going to MIT soon. That is on my to do list, along with Bowdoin (Maine), and Yale. I will probably get Bowdoin done this year.
i really really love this university ,it is my aspiration. i hope i will get this school one day ,i know i will. i am a chinese in China, but this university is a sacred place for all of us !~~
I guess these buildings didn't speak to you as they did to me. The idea of an auditorium dome as huge as the one at MIT resting on three points is something I find amazing. It was built at the same time as the nearby Chapel (also designed by Saarinen) so they are seen as almost two pieces of one project. The auditorium also compliments Rogers Hall; it also has a dome. With Simmons Hall, maybe the colors look better in person....it is such a HUGE building; it almost demands to be seen in person.
Response to Wanda, Campus Regulations, (1) I'm not quite sure here, but the first locks were secured after dinner (say 7 - 8pm; the main exterior doors), with the final locks a little before midnight (some interior hallways; connections to adjacent Dorms). This allowed easy access to all Lehigh personal, of various dorms. Indeed, I would often travel to other Dorm's lounges in order to watch a different TV program. I loved the openness and trust that then existed.
I'm visiting Boston, Harvard and I would like to see some of these buildings during my trip.. how far is all of this from Harvard Square ? Is there any easy/cheap way to reach the MIT campus from there ?
@bvcx8765432 I don't understand - what do you mean? The landscape and sculptures are on campus and seen by the students attending MIT; the wonderfully designed buildings are all used by students.
It may be difficult to see the inside since Simmons is a dorm. Even if you go on the MIT campus tour, they will not take you to the building, let alone inside. I managed to see the public area but not any of the rooms.
Yes... lockdown. Now this is really standard in all campuses. Unbelievably, in the early 1980's, if I recollect accurately, most exterior doors on Dormitories, were kept unlocked until a certain time of the day, until a more general lockdown at 11:30pm, with interior and exterior doors being locked. Now, besides a 24 hr. lockdown, there is no doubt sirens, and film cameras in various places.
@dunsacc From the MIT web site: Standardized tests are not the only factor, or even the most important factor. We review all of your academic information - grades, scores, classes, etc - to ensure that you are prepared for MIT. In part because of the strength of our applicant pool, the majority of our applicants are very well prepared to succeed at MIT.
@victopshot17 It is good to have such a goal. If you know what you want, you are half way toward attaining it. Am sure it is within your reach. Good luck.
Were you on a scholarship. I am currently going to 8th grade this year and i have taken the ACT and gotten a score of 19. What are the minimums for the college? The career that i dream for is to be in software engineering.
+Nunuh Nugraha Terrific! Wish you the best. You will have to let me know when you arrive at MIT; I do hope to hear from you. If for some reason MIT is not part of your future, all is not lost. Am sure you will have a wonderful and successful life no matter where you go. Who you are as a person is more important than the college/university you attend.
+Wanda Kaluza ^ _ ^ I promise if someday my dream come true, on the day of the announcement I was accepted as a student at MIT, I will certainly let you know. That is true, but for now, while it can be fought I will fight for it and let God do the rest. by the way nice to know you. I am from Indonesia
+Nunuh Nugraha Good - I would like to know how all turns out. Having your MIT goal puts you well on your way to achieving it. I have positive feelings about your country and its people. Last year I visited the Indonesian Embassy in Washington, D. C. It is housed in beautiful historic mansion. While there I and others were taught to play local instruments and participated in a music performance. That was fun despite my inability to master the technique. The people at the Embassy were very friendly and welcoming. Still have fond memories of being there.
@KatiushaVN4 best in the world for engineering and technology...in that field harvard is 22nd, cambridge is 2nd, princeton is 7th caltech is 5th and oxford is 6th
Response to Wanda, Campus Regulations (3), conc. What happened in '86 was a remarkable, very great, very painful, event. No one loves a police state, though, right....? Except the people running it, I presume.... Yes, I plan to visit MIT. The main domed building [the library, I guess], and Simmons Hall are the two key Buildings on my list. It will be interesting to see how far I will get. I've been to Lehigh recently, and they are a reasonably open campus, still, considering everything.
I know what you mean i m 12 two and I've been looking at this college for a while I want to be a software developer when I grow up or at list I think so I wish you luck😃🔜🏢
Wieghtedtea8 It is never too early to plan for the future. It is good to hear that you are doing that. One must have goals before one can attain them. Am sure your parents are proud of you; you will feel even better about that as you get older......
Thank you Wanda, this was a wonderful tour! Yes, I would have to say that MIT stands in the forefront of American schools, considering their campus. But I have two objections: one the major, the other the minor. The first: from what I could see, I don't believe that Saarinen's ridiculous auditorium goes with the rest of the campus. It is not attractive in itself, and it is inconsistent. The latter, the lesser: I thought, though that Simmons Hall was intriguing, the colours were wrong.
in my middle school our principle always tells us that we are not being prepared for high school but for college and they put us instead of 7-1 7-2 7-1 we are in colleges and mine is MIT well i think its for all brownsville independent school district but i hope i get into MIT our principle says its the highest
@wworldp but there must be some sort of benchmark... surely they wont accept students with less than 2000 points or something... anyways thanks for the other info, was really helpful.
@dunsacc Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. I am not affiliated with MIT. I can understand your concern all the more since they are very competitive. On the other hand, they may not want to have a stated cut off. Good luck....MIT is a wonderful environment and has a super reputation.
As a class of 2017 member, You dont have to have the highest SAT scores. I had an 1830, but proved to proficient in math. Dont worry to much about the score, it pretty much boils down to whether the admissions officers believe you belong here.

If you get accepted and your parents make less than $75k/year you should apply for financial aid and they will give you the money you need for tuition and expenses per year. Now, you say that you are not from the US. Well, for american people admissions at MIT are competitive, but for international students they are even more competitive. They cannot accept more than 150 international students (out of more than 3-4 thousand applications) per year, so if you want a spot in this amazing school you have to make sure to do well on your SATs, have really good extracurriculars and show the passion you have or obstacles you had to overcome in your life. You have to make them like you. It's not impossible, people do it every year, but it is definitely not easy. Good luck!
Do not give up. Life is full of the unexpected. If one is goal directed, big dreams can come true. Wish you lots of success with whichever path you take.
I'm from Cambodia I want to study at MIT too I always dream all the night about it ,Unfortunately I'm a low knowledge guy that MIT requirement very high!!!!! It's just a dream :)
One has to have a dream before a dream can come true....you have taken the first step on the path to MIT - congratulations. With aiming high something positive will come of it that will lead to a satisfying and fulfilling life even if you were to attend elsewhere. Wish you much success!
My nephew was accepted and we are so proud of him. A Mexican living the American dream.

Would love to study here.
This is a nice campus nestled in Cambridge. What a great educational institution.

I badly want to be a MIT student. Can anyone tell me courses to prepare for admission. I ain't from US
You might want to go on the MIT web site to get an idea of what they are looking for. Here is a bit of what you would find:
A strong academic foundation in high school both improves your odds of getting into MIT and will help you make the most of the Institute when you're here. We recommend (please note that these are not "requirements") that your high school years include the following:
One year of high school physics
One year of high school chemistry
One year of high school biology
Math, through calculus
Two years of a foreign language
Four years of English
Two years of history and/or social sciences
I had checked this before and i always search about Mit when i get time But i am confused about those things. Hope you would help me .........In our country they either teach physics and chemistry or biology and chemistry in high school ( grade 11 and 12) according to their interest. I'm very interested in this school however I can't guarantee the possible payment but much help if anyone knows how to lessen tuition fees. :D By The way I am not from US
As far as I know, admissions at MIT are need-blind. That means that the admissions department, when reviewing your application, is not going to take into account if you have or don't have money to pay for school. If you get accepted and your parents make less than $75k/year you should apply for financial aid and they will give you the money you need for tuition and expenses per year. Now, you say that you are not from the US. Well, for american people admissions at MIT are competitive, but for international students they are even more competitive. They cannot accept more than 150 international students (out of more than 3-4 thousand applications) per year, so if you want a spot in this amazing school you have to make sure to do well on your SATs, have really good extracurriculars and show the passion you have or obstacles you had to overcome in your life. i shall have u my love
will be there in 2014
I attended the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), which, compared to MIT, was (and is) a joke.
