    I did Misfits last year. I was very pleased with every box! Another benefit for me was when I would get something I'd never tried. My last box had some beets in it, so I planted them in a container. They overwintered and have tripled. They make a beautiful ornamental, edible plant. Did you know, beets will grow another beet on top of the original one? These did!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +5

      I had no idea that beets did that. I know onions will do that but side by side. One onion will turn into two or even three onions the next year if left in the ground. These can then be separated once they start growing again and replanted so they grow bigger than they would if left as is

    My misfits is allowing me to chose $30 of whatever from the marketplace, instead of just the produce. You can get as much of one item, or just one. I think it changed for me about 3 weeks ago. I"ve had it a bit over a year now, and enjoy it. I ordered because my pantry is well stocked, except for fresh produce. I didn't want to go to the store and expose myself just for produce. It's came in really handy! At one time, they sent 'mystery' boxes, as in you didn't know what you were getting. Lots of things I had never even heard of, but had fun learning to cook and eat different things.

    I have had MF for about 7 months and I have to say, mostly it is good but there are times I just have to give some of the stuff to the chickens as it is unsuitable for anything else. Still... I live where it is impossible to get most anything organic so having a variety delivered is awesome. Come summer when my garden is producing, we shall see!!! Thanks for your input.

    I love Misfits. It has been a huge success for us. Interesting to note that the packaging for your part of our country is different. We don't have that insulation around ours... It's a brown paper set up here. And those boxes! Amazing reusable boxes.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +2

Taste good for a regular tea as well, but it really relies on the fennel fronds so make sure you dry some, you won't regret it.

    I signed up for Misfits Market about a year ago, and half of the items were actually cut, crushed, or half rotten. so I cancelle. Last week I decided to give them another try, and it was much better. I am only doing an every-other-week delivery, as I am single, but still everything needs to be eaten or otherwise taken care of within a few days. It's definitely worth a try, but know this is going produce that needs to be used pretty quickly.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +3

      Yes, that bothered me at first too but at least they do not charge you until they actually ship the box. Unlike Thrive Market that makes you pay before you can even see what is available on their store. I did that not too long back and was so unimpressed after spending some time looking over what they had, I demanded my money back. They obliged but it was irritating to have to pay before I could even see what they had. At least with this, if you get in there and see what is available and if you are not impressed, I believe you can delay your shipment until better stuff is available or cancel before they ship a box

    I've had mixed outcomes with my boxes. The last one I received pretty much all went to the chickens and goats. I was very disappointed with my carrots, too. I have had oranges and lemons that molded within a week. I've never even had oranges mold before, so that was different Could also just be what (or the quality of what) we have available in UT. It has been an overall good experience, though, and I will continue to order. Blessings in Christ!

    I've heard a lot of negative about misfits. The products don't last. If you can't get them used up or preserved within a few days, it's all spoiled. I'm anxious to see your follow-up to this video. 💚🌞

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +6

      So far so good nearly 6 days later. Since a lot of the fruit was not quite ripe, none of it is bad and the mangoes and pineapple are still ripening but the avocados are ready and I have already eaten one. It was perfect. Nothing has spoiled yet. I do think location may be the issue for some depending on your climate and how it is being shipped

    • @GardenJensJourney
      @GardenJensJourney 3 роки тому +1

      I do agree with Heidi. My produce lasted quite a bit of time. I think it also depends on what you get, as some things aren't long term storage friendly anyways or are "rescued" right before they expire in the stores, so you do have somewhat limited time to use it.
      Overall though, what you get, for the price is quite reasonable.

    • @SSKnerrTN
      @SSKnerrTN 3 роки тому +1

      My first box arrived less than an hour ago. Most of the produce will need to be used in the next couple days; the vast majority of my items are ripe to very ripe. However, 20 pieces of produce in my order arrived badly damaged or so overripe that the skin was slipping off all the gala apples. I'm waiting to see how they handle my email and pictures. I'll give it another shot if they make good on all the damaged items but, as I do have access to some great organic farms locally, I may cancel my subscription. Anxious to see how this goes...

    I did bi- monthly delivery also. But every box had rotten produce in it. They offered discounts on the next box and eventually free boxes, but if those boxes came at all, they were rotten too! I finally quit and took the loss. I literally have 6 friends who had the same problem. We all had to stop it. I suppose it could just be a problem in Georgia. But it was terrible. And I had so much hope for it.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +2

      That is too bad. I would guess the issue may be a combination of the shippers and the heat you have there. They may not be moving the items along quick enough. Ours comes from the cooler side of Oregon to the cooler side of Washington and only takes two days so it never has to go through extremely hot climates to get to us

    • @JaniceCrowell
      @JaniceCrowell 3 роки тому +3

      @@RainCountryHomestead I suspect it might be the shipping company they were using. Boxes would often be late too, or not come at all. I just wish they had given me a refund instead of just discounts, which ended up doing me no good. One thing to note, if anything ever is rotten in your box, take a picture of it and email them. Almost every time I did that they at least responded to me.

I wasted a lot of money with them. they would credit my account a couple dollars, but never felt it made up for it. I paused through the summer, then tried it again - still no good. Heidi, this looks like a great deal for good food! I do have a question for you. It's about Watermelon. I know... you didn't order any watermelon. Do you make vinegar from Watermelon rind? Do you make pickled watermelon rind? Do you grow your own Watermelon? I love your channel. Thank you so much for helping everyone with your channel.

      Melons in general do not do well here. I have tried to grow watermelon and I think only a couple of the seeds germinated but the seedlings died quite small. Never made watermelon vinegar but would if I ever had excess and/or rinds to do something with.

    I am ordering more and more of my pantry items, both working and long term. I was really glad to see an item by item review of your package. In the summer, I will use local farmers and produce markets for things I do not grow. Local is as important to me as organic. However, with age and the world situation, it is good to have multiple reliable sources for quality products without using my time and energy to track them down. Thanks. Do you grow micro greens? I am going now to check your video library. It is my current area of research/info gathering to enhance our nutritional intake.

    If your local market doesn't have many organic items readily available have you spoken to the manager?
    If I cannot find what I want I speak to the manager they're usually able to get a shipment of what I want at no extra cost.
    I was told that the reason most stores don't have certain items on the shelves is because they were ending up tossing so much because there are few people who purchase them.
    As long as what you want is carried by the stores suppliers they can get them for you

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому

      Yes, I have spoken to them before on many things. They will occasionally get in things I ask for but are not always able to and usually will not carry any of it on a regular basis. While I am sure others may have asked as well, I was at least one of them that got them to start carrying Organic Valley dairy products. We have gone back to buying our milk from there instead of Costco since now the price is pretty much the same and we so rarely get into town

    My housemate just ordered our first box from Misfits Market on November 8, 2021 which will be delivered November 11th, and she said that you cannot do it just monthly with them anymore. Apparently they don't have the mystery boxes anymore (where they decide what you are going to get), but it's all according to what you order. Must be a very recent change. They do it weekly now, but you can opt out of certain weeks. Not really sure about how that works!

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  2 роки тому +1

      While it has changed since I made this video, you CAN do it as little as you want but simply not putting anything in your cart when the shopping days are open (which for me is from Friday through Sunday). If I do not add at least $30 worth of items to my cart during that time, my shipment will automatically be skipped.

    After watchin your video, I ordered from Misfit Market. I had horrible experience with them. I ordered large box of mostly veggies and I also added some more to their choices. It was $57.93 minus $10.00. When it arrived, I was missing an item, lettuce came completely spoiled. They refunded my money for spoiled and missing item, but in two days about 50% of what I got went in to garbage. It was practically spoiling in front of my eyes. It is hard to find a cancellation option on their site. I had to send them couple emails. If anybody is interested, it is on a bottom of managing subscription page in very fine print. I hate throwing out food and money, especially organic food. Maybe people who are advertising them, get better quality, or maybe I got a really, really bad box, but what ever it is, I will never buy from them again.

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому +1

      I am very sorry this happened to you but no, they had NO idea who I was when I signed up or that I was going to be doing a video on my box. In fact I never "advertise" anything nor affiliate myself with any company until I have tried their product and am happy with it. Every day I trash requests from companies all the time because I know nothing of them and am not interested in their product. When I want an affiliation then I seek it out myself after having experience with them first. If you read through the comments there are mixed reviews. Most people have been happy but some have had similar issues as you. My guess is location is the thing. They are not all coming from the same place, they are going to be coming from whatever city/state is closest to you. I would also guess that climate would play into it as well. From where our produce is coming from and where we live, we are on the cooler sides of the states.

    Can you recycle the boxes and insulation? That’s a lot of material. The reason I’m asking is that we live very remotely and all trash has to be hauled out or recycled into our compost. We do not burn trash.❤️

    • @RainCountryHomestead
      @RainCountryHomestead  3 роки тому

      Yep, I plan on recycling the insulation. It looks like it will be great for projects where we need insulation and even if not, it will make great packing material for when we ship cutting boards and the like. We always recycle boxes one way or another. Often cutting them in strips to wrap some of our products in as an added layer of protection when shipping.
