For me...Erotica was the most underrated Madonna album. It eschewed chart success in favor of musicality and originality, and brought underground 90's Club Kid sounds to the mainstream. It's definitely an album that should be more respected (especially as everything else from the 90's is now so prevalent in the zeitgeist). This was the first time that she dared step out of the "pop" bubble and go "Deeper and Deeper (pun intended)" with her sound. I just wish the Madonna of today cared more about her craft than keeping up with the youth...but either way...this is gold.
+Jack Mitchell Shelley haha you are vey funny, Eotica was misunderstood in the same way that Rebel Heart/Bitch Im MAdonna (keep the youth) is misunderstand now and... you can't even realize.
The Erotica Era is a masterpiece, the singles, remixes, b-sides, videos, fashions, tour, interviews, the promotion, artwork, everything is exceptional.
The best b-side ever, from the most underrated Madonna album of all time. Literally, this and the extended 12” of Fever, are her two best works of art.
I was listening to this about 17 years ago when my aunt came over. She asked my Mom "What kind of music is that!?" I don't think she liked it. Oh I also remember listening when my brother and sister were with me and after about 10 minutes my brother says "Has anyone else had enough of this?" I'm the only Madonna fan in my family lol
90's house, this takes me back 24 years ago, Madonna used to have a remarkable job with the then remixes from each single she putted out in the market, i remember the remixes from "erotica", " deeper and deeper", "fever", " justify my love", "reskue me", " secret", "bedtime story", " human nature", "bye bye baby", " i'll remember" and ofcorse this one "up down suite", for me it's her golden era, maybe because i have beautiful memories from my then life!!!!!!! Madge .....i love you!!!!!!
@Ian MacDonald Crobar used to play this nightly back then....not all 12 minutes but 3 or 4 minutes. It sounded so god damn good so loud. Ask Teri Bristol to play it if u ever see her again.
A Chicago native. Jojo at Red Dog. D.J. Lego. Freddy Bain. T.J. Mozzarella. You forgot Foxy's on Belmont and Halsted. Circa 199-1993. Crobar with Box Boy Bitch. He pushed me off from one of those high cubes. But I did not get to live the full glory of Crobar. Berlin was always too crowded for me back in the days. But remember vividly Madonna's Erotica era.
Shut Up!!! This era So reminds me of taking a trip there! Fuck it was Such a great time!!! Every one was So friendly....and I was Wasted every night. Boys town? Sum area, totally gay for blocks. Sum bar w phones in every booth....a drag queen passing out Chanel Cristalle perfume samples.
CHICAGO as well. I Loved LimeLight Chicago. They ought to bring something similar back to N. Y., London & Chicago! The clubs today are so tired. LIMELIGHT 2.0 !? ✌️☄️👾
This was song was on the cd single of "Rain" in 1993 here in Germany. This is an instrumental Version of the unrealsed song "Goodbye to innocence", recorded during the erotica sessions. I was a Little disapointed at the time, that she put only an instrumental Version of a complete unkown unrealesed song on the cd. Of Course I was curious to listen the real Version. At that time we had no Internet, no Chance to look for more. We only had to deal with what we bought in the stores...
This remix is AWESOME!!!! 20 years ago I was really disappointed with Rain maxi single, especially with this track. It felt wierd and boring. Recently it popped out as next recommended track on UA-cam and I'm so OBSESSED with it now!!! Sometimes one must simply grow up to appreciate uniqueness of this PURE BRILLIANCE!!!!!!!!
House Music (1983] had been around in clubs and on wax for a decade already. That was ahead of its time. If you lift from other influences, while still brilliant music, it’s more “right on time”. Shifting it into popular culture like she did with vogue was smart and effected pop forever. But the sounds were not new. It’s just my opinion and I shared it to share not to correct you. Love from another Madonna fan. 💜 feel free to tell me to go F myself, lol. 😘
"Some believe that I owe them something but they're wrong I owe nothing to no one but myself and there are some that say they've created me but only my parents can get that acclaim I took it from there I'm to blame..."
I bought this 12" as soon as it came out. I got it to the club I was working at to start getting familiar with it, and the bass in the song was so heavy the needle of the turntable just kept skipping. There was a defect in the vinyl, it was magnitude of bass. That was the first and only time I experienced anything like that before. I tried weighing it down a little with a couple pennies on top of the needle, but that didn't work very well either. Great song, but I was unable to play it for my customers. =(I'm happy to hear it again. Thanks for sharing!
__LYRICS__ I don't wanna say goodbye There are some who believe That I owe them something But they're wrong I owe nothing to no one but myself And there are some who say they created me But only my parents will have that acclaim I took it from there I am to blame _Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_ _Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_ _Down, Up, Up, Up_
I remember buying this maxi-single because I thought this track may be her new song back in "94. Which was "I'll Remember" not "Up Down Suite" lol I was 11 at the time so it was before I truly understood how new music was released And I was SOOO CONFUSED listening to this 1993 12min club song for the first time, I didn't know what the fuck I was listening to ;LOL
I need Rupaul and Work of Wonder to get their shit together and produce a season of dragrace entirely dedicated to Madonna! Get clearance for all the remixes and unreleased gems and clean it up! (The only rule :Not more than one person is allowed to look or dress as like her per Episode) This will be a season worth watching. Madonna (pre Hard Candy) was IT!
There are some who believe that I owe them something but they're wrong, I owe nothing to no one but myself. And there are some who say they created me, but only my parents will have that acclaim. I took it from there, I am to blame.

Se dependesse de mim, Madonna teria relançado o Erotica com novas músicas e batidas inesploraveis da época, porque eu tenho certeza que ela tem tudo isso guardadinho em algum lugar.

this sounds so fresh. she's such a pioneer.
Perfect mix of Chicago deep house and Belgian new beat.
nyc deep but yes

+Jack Mitchell Shelley haha you are vey funny, Eotica was misunderstood in the same way that Rebel Heart/Bitch Im MAdonna (keep the youth) is misunderstand now and... you can't even realize.
+David Ibarra So true. Thank you. Rebel Heart will one day be recognized as the masterpiece it is.
The Erotica Era is a masterpiece, the singles, remixes, b-sides, videos, fashions, tour, interviews, the promotion, artwork, everything is exceptional.
+Jack Mitchell Shelley All true bar the second last paragraph. Think she had already begun to do that with Like a Prayer (albeit to a lesser extent).
Revolutionary Madonna!!
Shep Pettibone another genius who worked with M.
This is one pumping sensual Deep House dance track!
The best b-side ever, from the most underrated Madonna album of all time. Literally, this and the extended 12” of Fever, are her two best works of art.
growing up in detroit, the dj's on the pop & urban radio stations would keep this in HEAVY rotation on saturday nights! Love it!
Seriously, I got so tired of playing old Madonna songs for people who requested them that this became my favorite Madonna song.

Or you're just patient for twelve minutes.

Human nature and bedtime story remixes are transcendent
Don't sleep on the Ray of Light era remixes! (Or American Life era remixes, tbh).
Thank God the Human Nature remixes are on Spotify. Vogue and Music (Single) Remixes too.
I hope they upload this and the Bedtime Story remixes
Man this sounded good at the clubs back then. Crobar, Shelter, Esoteria, Union, Berlin, those were the days in Chicago.
@Ian MacDonald Crobar used to play this nightly back then....not all 12 minutes but 3 or 4 minutes. It sounded so god damn good so loud. Ask Teri Bristol to play it if u ever see her again.

@Ian MacDonald Pats A.k.A Riley York. He is a friend of mine and huge Madonna fan. Will pass the word to him. Look him up on Facebook :)

the bass is unreal
This sounds so good I don't even care if it lasts 12 minutes or if it doesn't have any words
Piece of art !! Incredible !! This sound is in fact a remix of unrealesed song ; goodbye to innoncence. Big era ! Madonna is a legend !
I remember this from my clubbing days in the 90s. This remix packed the floors in the Limelight in NYcC.
CHICAGO as well. I Loved LimeLight Chicago. They ought to bring something similar back to N. Y., London & Chicago! The clubs today are so tired. LIMELIGHT 2.0 !? ✌️☄️👾
While" Erotica" is most underrated, yet one of Madonna's best albums.... "Bedtime Stories" is equally as much...
OMG it sounds like HEAVEN
One of the best club songs sung by M
D'habitude je ne suis pas trop fan des titres qui s'éternisent autant mais dans ce cas présent chaque seconde compte! Ca déchire tout!!
I was 18 and going out to the clubs when this was hot. I used to dance all the time to this song. Made me feel free,
Me too! it was the first Madonna song I ever heard in a real NYC club - Club USA in Times Square
you're still FREE baby!
I envy people enjoying this early 90's house music. Such a gem! (Born in 1990 here)
Shep Pettibone and Madonna made magic together
This is Madonna MAGIC!
Madonna really knows how to get a guy moving. The urge to dance is unquenchable
jack love and don’t forget about the producers... I don’t know who produced this one but it’s fire!
Who is listening in 2020? 👍❤️
Madonna is the most remixed music artist
I used to heard this song in repeat constantly! It bring back so many memories from my teenage years, 90s house music makes me feels sooooooo good!

freeguy1974 Goodbye to Innocence was released in ‘94 on the Just Say Roe album.
It was on Just Say Roe. Which you could buy.
Can you imagine this as a video interlude for her next upcoming tour.? OMG someone get a petition going
Spoiler alert from the future:
You get 10 seconds of it on the Celebration tour.
I forgot about this song. Love it.
I don’t know why but this would definitely fit great as a dance interlude in one of her tours
Wish coincited!
@@Oratual_Yes, so happy they used it on the Celebration Tour. Can't wait to see Madonna in February ❤
7:33 is the definition of deep house
for those wondering
I adore this mix!!! Love the original song it's taken from though. "Goodbye to Innocence" legendary Madonna!!
Ive been hearing that Erotica is madonnas best record and now i believe it.
This was not on the original Erotica album...just this B-side which was huge in the big clubs back then.
Music can really be powerful sometimes👍
Number one the Queen of musiccccccc
Queen, this is everything
This remix is AWESOME!!!! 20 years ago I was really disappointed with Rain maxi single, especially with this track. It felt wierd and boring. 12 years ago?! I thought this was new! Love this Madonna house track!! 🔥
30+ years ago actually. 1993 B-Side to the “Rain” single. The beat was later used for “Goodbye to Innocence”, go listen to that.
The Goodbye to Innocence mix of this is awesome.
Up Up Up Down!! ♥
