I mean in the Battle of Aljubarrota Portugal had the high ground 6500 men against 31000 and Portugal won so dont underestimate high ground (of course some field preparation and some spike traps helped)
@@narcisoferreira9976 The high ground advantage will always be relevant, but so much more in an age of arrow and bolt ranged engagement.

One of the first things I learned the hard way when starting on Medieval 2 was to build farms early.
Yeah early farms=a strong economy.
big population=strong economy=strong armies

Merchants can be really good, and early game, but only if you're willing to suffer through savescumming every interaction so they 1) give you that nice lump sum for killing an enemy merchant and 2) rank up quickly so they can be parked on a gold mine or something to generate a steady 500+ florins/turn. If you don't savescum they're a frustrating crapshoot, like all MTW2 agents.

Honestly, I don't care what faction it is, it could be 20 sydc in a row of the same faction, as long as the situation is thoroughly fucked and interesting to see set back on track, that's the part I want to see.

Almughavars aren't just javelinmen Legend, they function more as line infantry that also throw pointed sticks occasionally. Think of them as more aggresive but far less defensive legionaries.
Yeah, they have high morale and good bonus vs cavalry.
@@Ambiphonic Yeah their secondary weapon is the militia/light infantry spear (only a +4 to cav), but they actually do more damage to horses than Armoured Sergeants since their base attack is 13 (!). Only problem is their lack of armour means they lose quite a few guys on the charge-defense, but even that can be upgraded with smiths. They also lack AP on their melee weapon so they struggle to kill heavy infantry... But in the Early period when the AI is running mostly spear militia? They shred.
The AP is not a big thing though, as it just halfs armour by 50% so ap is like +3-4 attack on high armored units and less on everybody else.

Unfortunately my MacBook Pro struggles with huge scale
I usually play with small unit scale.Makes the game harder in medieval too all around.Small unit scale makes the game harder because sieges are harder to do cause tower casualties matter a hell of a lot in small scale.Generals bodyguard unit being small has less of an impact on going one general vs 500 men and winning and usually units break easier.Or at least these thing appear to me.Correct me if im wrong ofc

I wonder if there's a way to mod the game where merchants make 10x more money. Might actually be viable to use them..
Well it's quite easy. Just modify their traits so that they obtain them automatically upon training, and you get 10-trade merchants.
Would've exiled that merchant to rot Africa just for the hek of it. I think it was the one merchant each faction starts with, seeying how aged he was... Not saying merchants are good, I always lose my merchants to the AI no matter how hard I try.

SpikyKitten portugal did actually control navarre up until 1139
It was spanish territory that Portugal was controlling, because the spanish were concentrated in fighting the Caliphate, so they asked the portuguese to develop for them, in exchange of the lion's share of the resources of the land, until Spain was ready to assume control of the province.
This kind of agreement was not unheard of, in the Middle Ages.
That makes sense. Uniting against the common enemy. Although the Basque lands can control themselves perfectly well thank you, Madrid.
Jinetes and Javelin cav in general are the biggest piece of shit units to have to fight. There's no good way to go about it. Even mass crossbows/archers take way too many casualties out-skirmishing them.

Yeah i was just thinking of starting a very hard campaign as late era crusader states or some other hard faction and seeing if i could generate an organic disaster. Vanilla med 2 isnt really hard enough for me to ever lose my ground

Wait what? People argue over which tw AI is best? If this series proves anything, it is that TW AI is horrible down the range. In campaign the AI is incompetent at best and during battles it is often catatonic. 😂

I prefer new tw games in battles because in the new ones you can't win with only one op unit against an entire army(apart from particular situation). It' one of the reason not the main one

Alessandro Coletta well you can if it’s cav and the enemy gets split up and defeated multiple times decisively.
It's called defeat in detail, a real life strategy used by some great generals when fighting against much larger army.

@@hassarfn3557 i know defeat in detail but in medieval 2 you can destroy entire armies with one cavalry unit, thanks to very bad ai that doesn't react. That's not defeat in detail that's just "cheating".
You have played many many hours Rome2. It is logical to find it borring. Try not to play for about 6 months, and you will be fine.
Legend, have you ever tried on a "Very Generous" proposal asking for some settlements instead?
The proposal almost always drops to very demanding. I think the AI accept 8000 gold minimum for any type of settlement, except fortresses+ which I think is 12,000

these med II ones are getting a bit boring tbh. that game is so broken, it's pretty much the same thing over and over again: generals are op, get a few generals together, kill enemy general, then everyone else gets chickenshit and breaks after one charge. That attila one from last week, was probably ones of the best sydc's so far. you had actual battles one army vs another, you were strategizing on the go as the situation developed. ua-cam.com/video/09BMT6EL27Q/v-deo.html That one was so much more interesting to watch than these medieval II ones.
