I have Xpel on my side windows of my Audi SQ8. It’s perfect. The car is black. It’s a beautiful finishing touch and differently helps with reducing heat. I wanted to tint my windshield but the Xpel installer saw that I have a repaired rock chip in the glass. He said that even though it’s very small, he did not want to install the product because it might fail with the constant expansion and contraction we experience in the desert.

This past March I had XPEL ceramic tint installed throughout my 2018 M550 the same time I had a paint correction done with Swissvax to finish it off. I was shocked how well the tint gave off a glossy look - the paint (Mediterranean Blue) and glass and black trim all looking like they had about the same gloss level.

Warranty terms are great as well.
And since you know which installer does plotter cutting.. it really helps optimize the price for PPF or tint and guarantee minimum quality of the work as well (as it is not hand cut).

Looks great, mines already tinted on the back and rear side windows as standard, the fronts has a yellowy kind of tint that's probably UV inhibiting. I might tap up my local Xpel guy to see what he suggests. I've had Xpel PPF added to the entire front end of the car and lower side and hips. Its genuinely a great product so far. Its self healing so any light scratches and swirls will naturally fade to perfection again. I'm surprised you didn't get them to carry out a 'Performance Package' PPF? It makes the paint look and feel like perfect OEM from new. 😎

    • @PanTheOrganizer

Thanks for sharing. I am just not a fan of the look or feel or PPF. Plus, as I get a brand new car every three years, and do low yearly mileage, scratches and stone chips are of no concern to me. My cars are always pristine when I bring them back to the dealership.
But for people who keep their cars 4+ years, and do average to high levels of mileage yearly, and are looking for ultimate stone chip and scratch protection for their paint, PPF is the way to go for sure.

@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks Pan, everything is personal preference. Thats the beauty of the detailing world- it suits all tastes and wallets. I've out two layers of Carpro SIC over the top of my Xpel coating and its made it look even more candy looking. For the rest of the car to blend in I used 3.0 (2 layers and 2 layers of SIC) on the non ppf areas to blend and match the warm look and feel. It does blend in quite well. I just hope SIC bonds to Xpel for a while. Under polarised sunglasses it looks patchy but with normal lenses it looks fine. Its strange how polarised lenses pick out the ceramic trail from application. You cannot see otherwise 🤷

    Hi Pan.
I own an automotive glass, tint and detailing shop here in Kelowna, BC and have since 1988 so here’s a few things for the viewers to keep in mind.
-make sure you check with your local provincial/state laws to find out what darkness of film you can legally put on. Most places don’t allow any tint on the front 2 doors and the windshield. Now, saying that, a lot of tint jobs we do also include the 2 front doors. It’s just a matter of time till you happen to come across a police fella who decides he/she decides to enforce. Therefore, I highly recommend to people who want tint on the 2 front doors to go with either 50/55 or no darker than 35. Ticket is $109 here in BC. If you get argumentative they can make you get towed to your favourite tint shop to get it removed and then you need to get it safety inspected, which is another $125, plus the waste of time. So,,,,, the lighter the tint that’s on front glass the less likely you get stopped.
-I highly highly recommend not to tint the windshield. Vision is greatly reduced at night, no matter how light of tint you put on.
-if you get into an accident most insurance companies will assign a percentage of fault to you even if it’s totally not your fault.
-Glass, including the windshield already has 70% light rejection built into it, and all automotive glass has uv blockers built into it.
-But, if customer wants tint on 2 front doors,no problem,I’ll put it on.(I absolutely refuse to tint windshield’s. Except if they want an eyebrow across the top). Remember, I get paid to put it on and I get paid to take it off.
-Customers have complained that they’re cell phones don’t work as good if ceramic film is used. (Mapping or any data is affected). Customers have said that “it used to work in this or that location and now it doesn’t”. So customers should informed of that before you put that film on.
Just a couple of things to keep in mind.
By the way, Xpel is great film, especially if using it on the 2 fronts where the window is constantly going up and down. But remember, it scratch resistant not scratch proof.
As far as the Xpel ceramic coating is concerned there is better stuff out there.
Nice video pan, I enjoyed it. The 911 certainly looks better.

Hi Chris. Thanks for sharing your thoughts in a polite manner. Out of curiosity, since I'm not a window tinting expert, what brands and models of tint film are better in your opinion?
In my research, it boiled down to XPEL Prime XR Plus, and SunTek. After talking to many experts and Porsche owners, it seems XPEL is the top pick.

    • @chrissemsch8781
      @chrissemsch8781 Рік тому

      @@PanTheOrganizer Hi Pan.
Thank you for your kind words regarding trying to be polite. I was trying hard. 🤓 I use Suntek but not because it’s “the best”. I have tried/used/sampled a lot of different brands and product types in the last couple decades and many are very similar. Availability, pricing, distributor shipping costs, etc….come into my decision process. Also, some tints are harder to shrink. But of utmost importance is if my tech likes working with. It. A “stabilized dye” with a lifetime warranty is available with most, if not all brands. “(That’s what I use).
What I meant by “Xpel ceramic coating” is their liquid SIO2. I’m not saying it’s junk, I just have found better. (I have switched to Kronos by Phoenix EOD).
I would also highly recommend tinting (very lightly) the sunroof/glass roof that’s on a lot of vehicles these days. Or have ppf or the film that’s used on the exterior of the windshields. I’m running across more and more people these days that had a glass roof panel break. It’s a major pain in the tooter when the glass breaks in a million pieces and you have a hole in the roof. It’s especially awkward when it’s raining or snowing out and you’re on the hwy. The film won’t necessarily prevent the glass from breaking but at least it’s held together till you get home and get it replaced. (Which will probably take close to a week).
I understand you’re a busy fella but we should talk one day(my friend Phil Miranda says you’re a nice guy). I’ll try contacting you thru Instagram again if you want.

Was really disappointed. I hope this doesn’t happen to you, but heads up watching for it. The darker tint on the sides and back were fine. Ultimately, I think any ceramic tint is roughly equal and the premium price tag on Xpel just isn’t worth it (and I live in Florida where there is no shortage of heat). Key though, always go to a good shop for the install.

Pan, I know this is off topic. Two years ago I followed your excellent tutorial on applying a ceramic coating to my showroom condition 1987 Porsche 944 getting a beautiful result. Other than washing, is there some other coating I should put over the ceramic? And when will I know I need to redo the ceramic coating?

    • @PanTheOrganizer
      @PanTheOrganizer Рік тому +1

It's crucial to do a maintenance wash every 2 or 3 months with ceramic coatings, to replenish and boost the existing protection and make sure you maximize its durability. For that purpose, you use a silica spray sealant. I have a popular tutorial on how to do a maintenance wash of a ceramic coated car here: ua-cam.com/video/yLiePQRMFc8/v-deo.html
As far as how to know when you need to redo the coating, there are two general rules:
      1) When you reach 80 to 90% of your coating's quoted durability claim, it's time to think about redoing all the steps to strip and reapply a fresh one. For example, if you have a 2 year coating, at around the 19th month mark, it would be good to start thinking of a total reapplication.
      2) When you see the hydrophobic properties starting to diminish. Assuming you did proper maintenance and the coating isn't simply clogged by traffic film and road grime, if you see the water beading starting to diminish, and the water starting to pool and be very slow to sheet off, that's usually a sign the protection is on its way out, and it would be time to restart the entire thing.
      I hope this helps!

TSER is the important measurement, as it accounts for TOTAL energy.
Same for when tinters who use sales pitch buzz words like “nano ceramic”. Nonsense garbage. All “nano” means is “one billionth”. Using the same basis of argument, EVERYTHING is “nano” when you’re claiming it’s made from atoms.

I have had the car for a year and and four months so far, and I really like the lightweight noise insulating glass. Because I chose the top of the range Burmeister sound system, I wanted to cut off as much of the exterior road noise as possible (as 911 cars aren't as quiet as my previous BMW M550i for example). And compared to my friends with 911 with the regular glass, I really notice a difference. I'm an audiophile, so everything counts.
Yes I would absolutely order that option again if I was to get another 911. I can also confirm that both the original window tinters from Porsche (I had taken tinted option from the dealership prior to delivery) and also Dean Mitchell shown in this video (almost 30 years of window tinting experience, a legend in that industry) had absolutely no problems tinting my windows.

They measure the temp of the glass, but that doesn't account for all the heat collecting in an enclosed cabin for hours.
