HAHAHA Well you can tell I know Mage Knight better, 0 rule mistakes. This one a few more! Still though I am REALLY enjoying each one, it is hard to decide which one to record next!
Great video. I enjoyed the thematic reading of the cards and periodic (and not overused) sound effects. I picked this game up on KS and, being short on time, didn’t see myself learning the rules and getting it to the table all that quickly. I have a great sense for the rules and I am even more excited to play after watching. Thanks!
YES!! Just what I was hoping to do, the rules are quite straightforward, even if I am terrible at remembering all of them (creature abilities activate during the creatures turn so no hound should be out yet!) but glad it helped! Good luck on your own adventures!
Great video and nice simple explanation if what you are doing. I'm getting the opportunity to play this game this weekend. Really looking forward to it.
As a backer of this game, I thought I will enjoy the way Frank makes all those monster variety. After my first playtest, it is good game and the rule is very clear, but the randomness of monster, with to me make no sense with their own story. Sometime they are too hard to defeat (specially when they got "move"). I will try more stories with my team next time.
TOTALLY get this! Still on the fence about this myself. But for whatever reason the story and character upgrades are really hitting the spot for me!! Thanks for watching!
With this complex games that i don't know before hand, I like to wait the serie advance so I can watch some episodes in a row, and so far I like the workers, heroes customs mechanic
Totally get it! I really lke the split between worker and hero actions. Makes for a fun little puzzle! And the deterministic fighting with some chance thrown in there for good measure? YES!
Colin, I think the dogs should have spawned on the X instead of the 1, which is bad, because it means your worker will still be trapped. Unless the "moving creatures" quest card would have moved the dogs as well? I am excited to see the rest of the playthrough.
That doesn't make any sense, if it was the X it would be the exact location the creature was. The entire reason you draw a movement card is to determine where to hounds spawn in relation to the creature, right?
Sorry, I reread the text and it seems like the creature spawning is on the X location. So you did it right the first time. I'm still curious though, should the hounds move when "moving creatures"?
wow, you were so lucky with those quests, I was playing a 4 player game, and 3 of the 1st 4 quests we drew were skill quests (2 of them we failed) so we used 4 peoples turns for 2xp, and by the time we got the part 3 of the story we only had 4xp, it was brutal.
SHEESH! This is one of my "critiques" of the game, so much relies on those quest cards and there are SO MANY OF THEM! It can make it a challenge to obtain enough XP, through no fault of the players. . . Sorry you had such a rough experience!
I'm looking forward to the rest of this series. Pitty I didn't back the game myself. But I was already down too much at the time to justify another kickstarter. Regretting it since it seems a ton of fun.
Well it looks like my initial fears that the game would be overly fiddly were wrong. The gameplay seems pretty smooth to me. Count me in as someone who is hoping the game is getting a retail release.
Trick number 1, get the rules right hahahaha! Trick number 2, all enemy abilities activate when it is their turn! :) Other than that, I think you will do great once you understand the flow of the game. Thanks so much for watching and enjoy your own plays!
One Stop Co-op Shop Couldn’t agree more on the 1st trick. Haha! it is very helpful to post these playthrough videos as it not only helps you, but also all the people who watch them if they missed a rule or two on their own playthroughs. Great job btw!
To clarify. The abilities with the sword icon activate after the creature’s basic attack. The abilities with the star icon activate after everything else has activated regarding that creature.
First of all, you both rock, thanks for the help! I for some reason felt like hounds should come out right away?!? HAHAHAHA. . . Just to make sure I do the next turn correctly, the creature activates, does all of his actions (he won't attack as no one is in his range since how I understand range it does not work around corners) and that means he won't put out fire right? BUT the hounds would be placed at that point! You agree? Making sure I get this right for the next vid! I will get there I promise!
Correct. The bolt says place weak fir eon on his priority targets location so if he has no target, he will not place the fire. Since the hounds are not based on priority target, they will be placed per the quick reference guide. Just got this myself and I am loving it.
Hey Colin, I know you are moving... but we want more of your top lists!! ;-) I know this is a co-op channel, but it would be great to see a top competitive list (even euros)... Exactly because it is not your main focus, it would be nice to see which of those you still like...
Question the hive mind might can answer...The heroes have 2 explore actions available. If I have a range of 2, does that mean I can explore 2 tiles away from where I am at? Does this also mean that I can start out on a tile and explore it (the one I am standing on) and one other? I cannot think of any other reason you have multiple explore actions but I cannot seem to find a clear example/rule.
For an example, I start my turn on an unexplored tile, I explore it, move to another and explore it again. I think that is what Frank was going for . Make sense?
makes sense. I just thought that if attacking from multiple tiles away, it would make sense that I could explore as well. Otherwise, how is it I can fight them from a distance if i could not "see" the land the creature is on. If I could see the creature, I could see the land, and I would think I could explore. I could be wrong though.
I posted on BGG. Someone pointed out there is a skill that lets you explore an adjacent tile so while I don't think there is anything that specifically is for or against, there wouldn't be a s skill if it was normal anyway, so I am going to say you are right and we can only explore the tile we are on. It is funny because I have not seen anyone use explore twice yet so after I finished a scenario last night I saw the two and I was trying to figure out why. Looking forward to more of your playthrough. I may start my own in story 1 and see how different it does compared to yours.
Thanks for cheking on BGG you rock!! Yeah it does seem kind of weird though to have 2 explore, I think if anything I would have preferred 2 move. But I guess it makes the game more challenging then. Please do! The best is when you can play along and see how your game compares to the one you are watching. Good luck on your own adventures and I appreciate you watching this one! :)
I am REALLY enjoying it! Just know the scenarios are one off, vs. the story being the main arch of the game. Still though there is a lot of content here!
YES CoK is easier to understand, I would say they are both challenging in their own ways! CoK is more of a puzzle than you may realize and we all know Mage Knight is a puzzle!
Still amazed how you can bounce back and forth between these games and remember all the rules.
HAHAHA Well you can tell I know Mage Knight better, 0 rule mistakes. This one a few more! Still though I am REALLY enjoying each one, it is hard to decide which one to record next!

Thanks Colin. You deserve more subscribers for sure. Your videos are the best!
Why thank you! What matters is we are having fun right? Thanks for watching!!
At first, this didn't look like a game I would enjoy watching, but by the end it started to grab me. Curious to see where this goes!
Glad you are enjoying it!! Having a blast playing! I am hoping to record the next section tonight! :)
Great video and nice simple explanation if what you are doing. I'm getting the opportunity to play this game this weekend. Really looking forward to it.
Enjoy it Jared!! Thanks so much for watching it is appreciated!
Keep on playing Colin, don't let us wait long for next episode.
HAHAHAHA! Working on it, full time job and 2 kids can make it hard. I have it recorded, just need to edit.

i love your videos! :)...the hound activates when the creature ability activates
Thank you, Chrissy! Recording tonight so I will fix it! :)
I am thinking of picking up CoK since it is in stock locally. It looks great
Hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for the play through Colin!
My pleasure, should be continuing tonight! What a fun game!

Totally get it! Now I think the Game Steward may still have a copy of 2 if you are interested. Check them out! Thanks for watching!
The player board reminds me a bit of the Knight from Vast.
Oh cool, never played that one!
This looks alot better in the playthrough than on the setup ;) Any idea how to get a hold of it at this point? Wait for years for it to hit the shops?
GOOD!! No idea. . . I am sorry. Check the BGG page? May be doing a second kickstarter? The Game Steward had some copies at one point. . .
Yeah seems like its sold out everywhere except for a few 300-400 dollar ripoffs.. Hoping for a second wave :)
Well it looks like my initial fears that the game would be overly fiddly were wrong. The gameplay seems pretty smooth to me.
Count me in as someone who is hoping the game is getting a retail release.
Smooth as butter man, soooo nice. I was REALLY wary at first, but man it flows so well and as a solo it shines just as much as co-op. I like that!
Sorry to nitpick man. The move marker is still at “upper” 1 at the start of the video. You’ll just need to move it one more spot to “lower” 2.
In the words of the Crab from Finding Nemo, "I am shamed" hahahaha!! I can't believe I even SAID 2. . . but only moved it to 1. I will make a note!
Man, I wish I got in in this kickstarter! Hopefully it goes to retail.
Fingers crossed, the game is solid once you get the rules right hahaha! I am LOVING this!
Im in the same boat. I let it slide. Kind of regretting it now.
I believe the Game Steward was selling some copies, check them out!
correct, I got my copy from the game steward
There's a reprint kickstarter live now. 26 days to go. www.kickstarter.com/projects/tcokgame/the-city-of-kings-ancient-allies-and-vadoran-garde
I just recently got my copy of this game as well. Hoping i can get a few tips and tricks with this playthrough!
Trick number 1, get the rules right hahahaha! Trick number 2, all enemy abilities activate when it is their turn! :) Other than that, I think you will do great once you understand the flow of the game. Thanks so much for watching and enjoy your own plays!

You got that right!! I love it, it means when I play games on my own I actually know the rules hahaha! Thanks for watching!
According to the rule book abilities are activated at the end of the enemy turn. So the hound would come out then.
To clarify. The abilities with the sword icon activate after the creature’s basic attack. The abilities with the star icon activate after everything else has activated regarding that creature.
**you don’t have sword abilities.....YET**. ;)

HAHAHA That is a really good idea! Probs not going to happen until I am moved as all but 6 of my games are packed. But I like this idea, thank you!!
Which 6? That should say a lot!!
Sorry I missed this! Here are the six I am keeping out and available:
Spirit Island
Mage Knight
LOTR
City of Kings
HEXplore It
Roll Player
:)
This is a great video!!! Really!
Thanks!!!
So glad to help!!
Awesome nice summery to learn the game. Hope its a nice one for me, not sure do.
I will tell you this, I am loving it so far! Glad the video was helpful!

@19:40 ...you should count the attention token too? cause you are scavenging on a quest and you got the attention of the beast ?
I don't remember sorry been to long!
Very cool! Can't wait to watch more :)
Thanks for watching so far!
Thanks for playing the game!
Trust me, my pleasure hahaha! :)
thanx Colin, i 'm so exited :))
Whoot Whoot!!!
is there a link to from where you got the layouts?
Layouts? All I had at this time was the kickstarter version of the game?
@@OneStopCoopShop the plastic on player's mat came with the kickstarter?
How many stories are there?
7 Stories and about 15-20 scenarios!
Woah, that is a lot!
Thanks. Game looks awesome!
I am REALLY enjoying it! Just know the scenarios are one off, vs. the story being the main arch of the game. Still though there is a lot of content here!
GO GO POWER RANGERS!!!
HAHAHAHAHA! Not sure what I did to make you think that, but I LIKE IT! :)
I wrote it before pressing play:P
Hahaha! Got it!
Colin is CoK easier than Mage Knight?? actually don't want to get more "brain burners" :)
YES CoK is easier to understand, I would say they are both challenging in their own ways! CoK is more of a puzzle than you may realize and we all know Mage Knight is a puzzle!
