  • "O Tod, wie bitter bist du" performed by Sofia Vokalensemble and Svenska Kammarkören (The Swedish Chamber Choir), October 18th 2015. Conducted by Simon Phipps.
    ***************
    English translation
O death, how bitter is the remembrance of you to a person at peace with his possessions,
to a man undistracted and prospering in everything and still having strength to welcome a luxury.
O death, your judgement is good to a person who is needy and lacking strength, who is in extreme old age
and is anxious about everything and who is disobedient and has lost hope.

This is exactly the performance Max must have had in his mind when composing this work; you deserve a a standing ovation for this!

Yes, no tremelo in the voices... Way better than others. Expression. Drama. Dedication to God. May Your will be done- is finally the best for us. Even if it means death until we live in eternity.

I would like to join the choir, but listening is a blessing too. Problem is only, I do not dare to breathe at the end of the song. Too beautiful! We'll sing it again in heaven. Death is there no more, but we will all agree: God gave us death at the appointed time.

No. It isn't. The best and peerless until now is the version conducted by Dietrich Knothe
which has the right and correct Max Reger's agogic ever.

I cannot stand how perfect this performance is. Magnificent work, every single person involved should feel immense pride in this. Even when it goes slightly flat at the end, it doesn't matter. The choir's ability to blend overrides the mistake.

+Blizzard Yes, that's correct! Sofia Vokalensemble won in 2012, and The Swedish Chamber Choir won in 2011. Max Reger is the composer of this piece.

Much respect for this endeavour, too.
