A quick race through 1st to 3rd gear. Both being careful on their clutches for this one! 3SGTE engine swap in the MR2. Not a proper race - just something to watch and enjoy.
3rd gen 3sgte swaps were rare bsck in the day, 2007 in the US. I bought a shitbox with one. I worked a almost minimum wage job, not much money to work with. Bought a .50 trim turbokit, tisl external wastegate, Ebay intercooler with 9"spal fan, an aluminum flywheel and 6 puck clutch, turned up to 18 psi. Oh and chromoly Axle cages, poly inserts for the motor mounts snd sn antitorque bar. And the a/c was deleted. It was clapped out and ugly, but man could it move. Smoked some fast cars with it. Prolly only 320whp or so.
That's my old evo and I have had a dozen mr2's, that evo was around 360/370 bhp so not a fair race, give the mr2 360 bhp and it would have been quicker ;)
midships launch better than awd cars. awd's tend to bog down at launch. the evo had a bit more power. or better gearing. also its fun to race cars of different types as you can show of their strengths and weaknesses v.s. each other.
There's this thing called an accellerator pedal that he didn't press in all the way to the floor. That would make it faster - if that's what he was wanting.
My daily driver is a 1994 mr2 gt-s. The 4g63 without a doubt is a great engine and arguably "better". However give the mr2 a similar power output as the evo 6...i think the mr2 would smoke, it's so fuckin' light. Someone on here mentions there's a major power disparity if that's the case well that's why it lost. Good intercoolong and a good turbokit, 2 bolt ons, you can practically get that mr2 to dip into 11.9 second quarters on a 3rd gen 3sgte...2 bolt ons, that's it.
@v11 oh right whats ur mr2 had done to it mate? only asked if was standerd as i have a rev 3 turbo with minor mods and its as quick as a frends evo 6 on a straight.
Yeah I've heard it takes a skilled driver to master an mr, especially if it was the Japanese mr2 that puts out a lot more power than stock American mr2
really? well you can proly make it better with better tires a better sway bar and suspension i hear mr2s have good weight ratio they use them as track cars alot but idk never driven one nor do i plan to small for me lol
its my mr2 in the video , neither of the cars are standard - evo is running 400bhp and mr2 around the 300mark but it stopped giving me 3rd gear in each of the races so thats why you see me drop back so far !
Lol... y would u drag two different type of cars.... AWD vs Mid Engine RW... the AWD will always have a better take off...as far as engines go both have the same power pretty much.... the gap between them don't increase after initial kick off...

Thanks man. The MR2 is great fun to drive but those coilovers were painful! Evo had so much grip it was scary.

The Evo is the grip monster... The MR2 won't allow that aid at all... so tail happy, It corners well but still wants to get its arse out..

Both are great cars. Personally I don't like Evo's but that blue is just awesome.
Fun? More like scary! Not an awful lot of grip in the MR2 unless it's warm and dry. Once the wind and rain comes its terrifying

it's a turbo.. but the sticking 3rd gear has been sorted now.
i am now the owner of this car, will post up a video soon i have added a decatted japspeed exhaust and hks filter.. stay tuned.. :)

so this was an NA to Turbo conversion? did the updated gearbox come with LSD?
