So glad you made this video. My teacher literally lets me have it whenever he sees me standing and playing. Sometimes it’s an unavoidable circumstance in rehearsals for me. And standing playing has actually improved my posture.

Some great suggestions. Your super high energy was perfectly balanced by that cute little zen dog snoozing on the couch.

    Thank you so much!
Your description is exactly what I felt!
Last time our orchestral conductor teacher saw that problem in us and gave us stools and that kind of 'solve' our shifting problem.
But currently I have a show in less than 2 months and the show requires quick shift out of stage for twice and page turning problem LOL so I guess I can't play sitting but standing and I really scare of playing while standing.
I guess I need to try about the centre of gravity that you mentioned.
It kinda reminds me of my swimming classes and the time I tried to figure out how to ride on large wheel bicycles that requires much effort in the balancing topic.
Your sharing and teaching is very much appreciated =D
    Thank you so much

      @@doublebasshq Ha!
I tried but still failed quite miserably.
Hmmm one day I'll get it right because I personally think playing jazz music while sitting looks pretty weird though to be honest

Thank for the video. It helped me to balance the bass better and connect the entire fingerboard.

I got a RobPin about 3 months ago and I've never looked back. It took about a week to get used to it but it's made standing a whole lot easier. I sat for 15 years and hated standing but now I only stand when I practice. All the pain and stiffness in my neck went away because I can stand in a really natural position. The bent endpin was definitely a good fit for me.

I taught myself to play standing. I had the exact opposite experience having to play sitting in the pit when I played with the Opera. Funny how these little things can affect your plplaying. Good video!

Same for me, could never figure out how to bow the E string without the bow going into my right leg (especially with German bow). Maybe it was the stool they had me on. Luckily there was not much low-register bowing in the show.

@@ethaneriksen2707 For that you gotta roll the body of the bass with the bow. Cellist do it all the time. Don't be afraid to move with the music. =D

Fantastic, thank you. First time I saw Dave Holland it was amazing seeing dancing his position with the bass. Freedom is under appreciated IMO. Thank you.

Even when I played in the uni orchestra, I would always stand. I very much prefer it. Maybe it's just coming from a jazz/folk world.

I stood in the fifties, sixties, seventies. I sat down in my car on the drive home after the gig was over.

Great video! I play standing exclusively. My problem is figuring out how to play sitting down…

Can you play it while in the stand? Doesn’t SEEM unreasonable. I kind of like NOT wrestling with it.

Angled end pins structurally weaken the bass…

The Taiwanese piano teacher Ms. Chiang is even much more hype than this double bass teacher.
It's just different distinctive personality =)
