Even though Concacaf did not do good. Concacaf sends the least amount of teams to the world cup, but in every world Cup since 1986 at least one team got past the first round. Africa and Asia since 1986 have sent more teams to the World Cup, but not ever World Cup got at least one team past the first round in Africa and Asia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a Mexican fan first and foremost, we knew this squad (at least with Tata at the helm) and federation (failing to push talent to go to Europe) needed a shake up when they did absolutely nothing impressive in qualifying. I was glad to see them go out because it’s the slap in the face they needed to realize that USMNT and CMNT are on their way to overtaking them in concacaf. As for Canada, it was abysmal. There’s no other way to put it. Topping the federation in qualifying and then failing to get a single point in the World Cup itself. There’s no federation where that type of situation is not considered an utter failure. I have high hopes for the CMNT. Lots of promising youngsters. I just hope Herdman drops the legacy lineup mentality moving forward because the veterans that he leaned on for leadership in qualifying ultimately were the most disappointing performers in the World Cup itself (atiba, Borjan). Let it be a lesson: while qualifying in concacaf hostile environments requires a kind of veteran leadership, World Cup football is the young footballers stage (different beast). Fortunately, the CMNT has the best coach concacaf has seen in a while and I think Herdman can adapt
As a Mexican fan, I completely agree with everything you said. Canada was disappointing because I actually thought they would do better than Mexico. It’s funny because Mexico didn’t do as bad as we thought they did. Yeah we kinda expected Mexico not making it but we all thought Mexico would lose 4 or 5 to Argentina and lose to Poland.
@@luis6633 as a Mexican We all know mexico sucks now and Canada or any decent team can beat them. We can all agree now that Canada had the hardest group in this WC, 3rd/Croatia & 4th/Morocco & Belgium. Canada actually did good, and their major weakness showed DEFENSE, they could get by during qualifying but against top 15 teams, it shows. (And please, let's not put Mexico and UsA on top 15 cus they are not) I think if they played qualifying or more friendlies with top teams, the weaknesses would of been highlighted and improved or even put lineups to help correct their weaknesses, but they went to WC with the same plan as playing Belize and we all know what happened.
Agree on the wrong tactics. Changed from bunkering to attacking. IMO massive mistake. Really disappointed with Phonsie taking the penalty. Not a natural scorer.
I want to change my mind somewhat on this. I respect coach Herdman alot and him maybe, knowing the chances of going far in this tournament were small, decided to show our attacking flair rather than seem to be desperately parking the bus because we were poor. Furthermore the success of Croatia and Morocco would indicate we were in a tougher group than was thought by the so called expert pundits. I am also sure Phonsie feels bad enough without me piling on. All in all it was a hell of a ride. To all of them, thankyou. 👍
Performance wise they all played really well and Mexico could have actually reached the RO16 but again wasn’t meant to be but I see in general a lot of room for improvement
I'm writing this before watching the vid. To me it's on balance a no. Canada, USA and Costa Rica ended up exactly where I thought they would. They're just not as strong as the opposition they meet in a WC. Mexico underperformed as I expected them to get out of group and then lose the first knockout round. After watching I agree with most of what was said. Good job guys.
The failure of Herdman’s tactics and underperforming goalkeeper costed Canada’s zero point. The goalkeeper and defence were the problem, compared to other teams in this WC.
Concacaf was 0-6-1 against teams from Pots one and two. Moving forward Pot one and two will be Pot One, from eight countries to sixteen. In the Qualifiers Canada could have been placed in pot 3, with a final win against Panama. The With a loss against Mexico in the final three, the USA could have been placed in Pot four. But as the World Cup gets larger, the need to get a big upset, and continue to roll in the group stages to have a hope to get past the first knockout round. Performance wise they did well. For Canada, as the group they did better than last time... but as the games continued to be played, Morocco and Croatia both proved that they belonged.
I didn't expect Mexico to qualify. Just look at the players Poland has and then compare them to the players Mexico has. The US had the easiest group possible and barely qualified, however the team played well and there were a lot of positive comments about the team in international media. Costa Rica did their best, but the team clearly didn't belong there. Canada started well, but ended up being a joke.
Tbh they did what I thought they would do - USA peak was a round of 16 loss after finishing second in their group - Mexico had their weakest team in ages hence no knockouts for them this year - Canada lacks experience and quantity of established players to actually make a run - Costa Rica was happy just to be there
With the exception of Tajon Buchanen and the first game against Belgium, Canada's midfield and forwards got it all wrong. From the missed penalty to the goalkeeping gaffes against Morocco, Canada was uptight and they just looked gassed out there on the field... We got manhandled by Croatia... Stifled by Morocco... And we had many opportunities to secure a win against Belgium but we kept sending ballsh 15 feet above the cross bar or 10 feet wide of the net- so Canadian... Maybe we'll be ready for the next World Cup. But, nerves got to the Canadian team when it mattered, and yes, we did not meet the expectations we went there with- so yes, we underachieved.
I don't think it underperformed, it just highlighted where Concacaf are to the WC, a filler. And 2026 will be a larger filler of crap, unless we have conmebol/Concacaf tournaments every 2 yrs and take top 6 Concacaf teams to get spanked into place.
USA was naive in the end in the Round of 16, much like Canada in group stage BUT all I gotta say is for me it's a MAJOR success that USA didn't lose to England. Not celebrating tie but I didn't want to lose to them and all those fans and pundits say we would lose 4-0 and 3-0 waffling in the end. We would have heard how the USA players are not good for 4 years so SUCCESS in my books lol
Canada was in the hardest group of the tournament and 2 of 3 games they performed admirably. Say what you want about Belgium but being the better team in that game is nothing to be ashamed of. Were half a ball length from a draw against Morocco. Croatia had too much in areas we weren’t good in that was always a bad matchup. If we were in group B we probably get out of it like the US did
Their performance over the last several years, (not just WCQ) earned them their placement in pot 4, and therefore in a tougher group than US and Mexico. They only finished 3 points ahead of them in WCQ, but have underperformed in Nations League, Gold cup, etc. That said they blew their chance at pot 3 with a late loss to Panama
The performance of CONCACAF is a reflection of how absurd and how flawed the FIFA ranking system is. It is just way too backward looking. Let's start with the two teams that were rated way too high. Mexico at 13 and USA at 16 were placed in pot 2 and ended up in relatively easy groups. Mexico couldn't beat Poland or even score and didn't advance. Please don't go there on the KSA upset of Argentina. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut on a good day. USA fans are quick to point to the rankings of Wales (a total joke at 19) and Iran (20). This ranked them ahead of Japan and Morocco.....nuff said. Canada and Costa Rica were in pot 4 and naturally ended up in tougher groups. Costa Rica managed to ambush Japan to get a result. Canada missed their chance against Belgium, whose ranking at 2 was the biggest joke of all. Yeah, you can say Atiba was inches away from getting us a draw, bur we were on the back foot all of the first half after a dreadful start. So the CONCACAF teams did about as expected. The teams that really underperformed (eg Germany, Serbia, Uruguay) weren't from CONCACAF.
Though your perspectives on the US, Canada and Mexico are really good i think your perspectives on Costa Rica are pretty bad. Granted you guys are an american and a canadian so like fair enough, but it feels pretty unbalanced the way you talk about the player and managerial situation in the US, but not Costa Rica. Likewise I believe Mexico is also going through a lot of turmoil in their federation (although im not mexican so i cannot really expand on that without researching) but Costa Rica had a lot of trouble with our coach who refused to put on some of our better, younger players, or just didnt call in some of our european starlets (see manfred ugalde and others) as well as doing a lot of questionable tactical decisions. Overall, nice analysis with the US and canada, even if its just what everyone else has been saying, but overall, such a biased video. But then again, what else should one expect from the gringos 😪
These guys aren’t experts/analysts on all teams concacaf. If you think you can do a good analysis on the Costa Rican national team situation, then go for it dude. You’re not doing anything useful for the Costa Rican national team by complaining on a Canadian fans video
@@mig3598 i mean yeah, youre right. But the video is titled “did concacaf fail at the WC” so you have to understand that its a little bit tilting to see them represent the countries in such a way. Imagine your country was represented in the wrong/inaccurate way. Just wouldnt feel right
@@Kerlesh I don’t think they represented Costa Rica in a wrong/inaccurate way. Did Costa Rica do what we expected them to do given their group, in other words finish towards the bottom? Yea, and in fact they did a bit better given their circumstances. There’s unfortunately not much to get excited up about with los ticos. This player selection has been the worst Costa Rican squad I’ve seen in a while, relying on a Bryan Ruiz and Campbell, and an amazing keeper in Navas who didn’t have his best showing. This was a disappointing World Cup for Mexico which we all predicted with the internal issues we’ve had for the past 2 years. Did CONCACAF Fail at the World Cup?
I'd say so
Yes. But i guess ill watch the video anyway
100% got to do better in 2026
